Do you prewash fabric before putting it into a quilt? Once it's made, do the colors bleed into each other? I want to make a quilt that uses solid black, gray, and white, along with a red patterned fabric. I'm worried about the black and red bleeding onto the white. Is there anything I can do to prevent that from happening? It's a quilt for a teenage boy and I feel like it will be washed a lot.
Hi Kelly! I don't usually prewash my fabrics, but I do see your concern. I would recommend prewashing with a capful of distilled vinegar. This will help set the color. If you have any Synthropol, which is a product that releases any free-dye particles, wash with this first, then the vinegar. Don't forget to zigzag the fabric edges so you don't loose any fabric through raveling. Once it has been washed, iron using a little sizing. This will put the body back into the fabric and help with cutting. Fran

I have 3 fabrics that I bought from Joann a little over a year ago: "Floral Vine" Quilters cotton in Gray; "Burst" Quilters Showcase cotton fabric in Navy/purple; and "Simple Floral" Navy/Purple Quilters Showcase cotton fabric I adore the colors and the different prints, and while it is obvious that they coordinate, I am struggling to find the perfect 3-yard quilt pattern for them. I wish I could send the 3 fabrics to Matchmaker and let you help me out. I kind of wonder if I have 2 focus fabrics, or 3 focus fabrics, and no background 🤔 . Would you mind looking at those fabrics and suggesting the best solutions for them?

I have a lot of half yards in my stash, and I was wondering if I could find a way to use them in a 3-yard quilt pattern.
Me too. If there are two half yards that are close in color, you can use them in one position sort of like an ombré print.
Also thinking of the fat quarter patterns. Try those
I think half yards could be used similar as a fat quarter pattern too!

I have lots of very solid fabrics that I would like to use in quilts..quilts that are solid. Love the solids here, but they have movement to them.
Beautiful fabric of 1 color but not solid colors.
