    Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

My family has been in this business for 100 years and everything this man says is true. You must be in it for the love. You must love acting so much that it wouldn't matter if you never made it big. There is one thing that seems to give people and advantage though. Get into it, and get representation while you are a kid. My sister used to be in acting and many of the kids she would routinely run into at auditions are big names now. And if you do get into it as a kid, make sure your parents are pleasant for the casting agents and producers to deal with. And if you do get into it as a kid, even if you are getting a lot of parts, don't skip college, because few people get parts all of their life.

    • @scubatuba1083

Child acting can be extremely damaging to their mental health and usually the parents putting their children into that are like pagent mom's, they are living through their children. They force their children to work instead of letting them be a kid.

I'm not an actor, nor do I have aspirations in that area but this interview is still wonderful. I'd like to suggest that Mr. Oberst make educational films for job seekers in most vocations given the information he has presented here.

Tough-love reality check for aspiring actors. Brutally honest, gritty, and very informative. Second time watching this, posted in one of my actors groups. Forget the red carpets and the pie-in-the-sky of getting richer than God as a movie star--Bill Oberst Jr. is the blood and guts reality of a life dedicated to acting. Watch this and learn!

Awesome interview I love the candor, the honesty the nitty-gritty of the business. I’m looking at how to apply this to being a director. These were very good tips but actual RULES you MUST follow.

This is an eye opener! From the age of five I have wanted to be an actress, it was a need, I wanted to move people and acting was something that freed my mind, this video has not changed my mind but motivated me! Thank you for making this amazing and very informative video!!!
