  • LOST and ALONE in China's LARGEST City - This is our third time visiting China and we've been more than impressed by every city we've visited. Chongqing is one of the largest cities in China and difficult to navigate if it's your first time there. It is however one of the best places in China with unique attractions and things to do all over the city.

Chongqing got independent from Sichuan province partially because 1) rivalry with Chengdu became extensive, both are big cities with economic and historical importance, balancing policies between them within one province were difficult; 2) the three gorges dam was underway, it’s a huge project that required some high level authority to establish local laws and executive powers to manage the engineer, ecology & migration tasks. So Chongqing main city and some counties along the river valley regrouped into a municipality independent from Sichuan. This also answered your question about the electricity price, Chongqing, as well as other southwest mountainous region, has a lot of electricity from hydropower
