For someone who wanted to become James William Guercio the Second (or Gus Dudgeon II), you couldn't have made me any happier. This is amazing, insightful stuff. One more reason why the MHOF (and Stax and the Grammy Museums) trump that mistake by the lake in Cleveland.
When I was a kid, it seemed that the music industry was huge, but now I see that it really was a small world and everyone knew each other and played on each other's records.
I remember seeing these two legends names on my late grandfathers albums, it’s great to see them and brings back a lot of great memories staying at my grandparents house.
James William Guercio grew up somewhere around Chicago Illinois and part of the reason why he managed and produced Chicago was because he and sax player Walter Parazaider were college classmates at DePaul University in Illinois. James did a good job producing Chicago, and when he left, people stopped liking Chicago.
Joe ..always a joy! And please don’t stop inserting those reference photos about the people you are speaking about. Simple and great production values.
Awesome Joe! One thing for sure, as Kenny & James both noted, Stephen Stills is an amazingly gifted guitar player/musician! One of the all time greats in my book! Looking forward to Part 2! Hope that all is well with you!
Love these kind of interviews. Whenever my brothers and I would get together we could talk about musicians and who played with who, and how many records they played on. Thanks for doing this.
I don't know how the Algorithm knew to put part 3 of this interview in front of me, but I don't want to know. Found this 1st part and I'm amazed at all their stories. I met Kenny in '85 at a studio called Rhumbo, owned by Darryl Dragon, the keyboard player for the Beach Boys, (and with his wife Toni, formed "The Captain and Tenniille") James talks about Rumbo in the 3rd installment. Crazy to hear the back story of one's life
Interesting stuff; I lived in Boulder, CO from 1988 to 1996 and used to cross country ski in Nederland; I had no idea that area was home to Stills and Walsh in the 'Hippie' era - small world. Guercio certainly got around - from Chad & Jeremy to Joe Walsh to Dan Fogelberg. The ringtone on my cell phone is Rocky Mountain High; so Nederland was the inspiration for that one - ☺
Great one Joe. Glad to see my boy Tommy Bolin get a mention. Strange how he ended up replacing Dominic Troiano, who replaced Walsh in the James Gang. (Been a huge Tommy fan for decades. I still think he was right on the cusp of the big time. He should've never joined Purple [though I love the album he did with them] but his brother & others told me the $$$ was too big to pass up. Oh well.) The Buckinghams brings back a lot of memories, my AM transistor radio in my pocket, my single ear piece plugged into my right ear...😂😂😂 Can't wait for part 2.
Hey that was my next door neighbor he’s got 10 years on me! Watched him pen songs riding the CTA. Must have been the Buckinghams who rattled our wood frame windows. Chad and Jeremy stayed over at their house. He hated burning peeling paint off their frame house. Now I know why! My Dad sure liked his stuff!
Peter Frampton was putting a band together and wanted Kenny because he played fretless bass. He was playing with Elton but recommended Stanley Sheldon who'd played with Bolin.
Dam these stories are fascinating! I think Guercio's name was plastered on over half the vinyl I was buying in the late 60's. I knew then he was a great talent. Thanks for the first part, Joe, and can't wait for the rest!
Thanks, Joe! Another gem of an interview! Man, I'll say it again. Thank you for the foresight to record the great musicians all those years ago! And great to see that the great Steve Wariner and Ryan Wariner wrote the theme song!
Joe, what a great episode! For those of us that didn’t know, I’m amazed at how all the songs I grew up listening to, involved all these great musicians that seem to have been part of a close knit group that had great respect for one another! Can’t wait for parts 2&3! Thanks for sharing!💫
Great job again Joe .. Guercio needs to take his foot off the gas here and let others to speak their thoughts.. that's just me Joe maybe have a show with just him.. Thanks sir.
Great stuff! As a side note, check out the cult classic film Electra Glide In Blue…James William Guercio directed and handled the music score. #electraglideinblue #chicagotransit
Watching the Elvis On Tour ‘72 film so many times, the name Joe Guercio always remained in my memory bank. This guy Jim G. has got some great stories in this 3 pt interview. Kenny too! I’m enjoying the interview Joe. Again, thank for your work. It’s very insightful to hear these stories.

Great! I always loved the vibe at Caribou. Look forward to the rest. How pivotal was Barnstorm!
I would love to be a fly in the wall to see Jim Guercio and Steven Wilson talk shop recording and remixing records.
Great stuff! As a side note, check out the cult classic film Electra Glide In Blue…James William Guercio directed and handled the music score. #electraglideinblue #chicagotransit
Joe this was so interesting great interview. Thank you so much.
My sister told me to never sleep with a bass player.
👍
If you leave me now
You'll take away the biggest part of me
Ooh-ooh-hoo, no
Baby, please don't go
Who produced that one?
James William Guercio did nik… I think he played bass on it too while Peter played the 12string acoustic including the lead break……. Best, Joe
Joe, question: Is there any relation between Jim and Elvis Presley music director Joe Guercio?
Hi luv… great question…. I honestly am not 100 percent positive but I don’t think there is any relationship…. Best, Joe

Isn't this the guy who bilked 51% out of Chicago until they grew brains? lol
