  • Mercedes-Benz cars have lots of standard features that can keep you safe and assist you on the road. Today I run through the most common ones you can find in cars today, how they work and what they mean for you.
    Safety & Assistance systems in this video are Attention Assist, Active Brake Assist, Active Bonnet, Speed Limit Assist / Traffic Sign Assist, Active Parking Assist & Active Lane Keeping Assist.
    Double check with your local Mercedes-Benz showroom to see what’s on your Mercedes-Benz. This can be checked by the factory spec sheet.

My map is out of date and I refuse to pay a ridiculous sum to update it when I can use waze etc through car play. My car is going along at 70 and then all of a sudden slows suddenly saying 40, no sign of a 40 anywhere. Can you switch off the gps and only have the actual roadside reading? I'm looking at purchasing an A35 with the Driver Assistance package (2019 or 2020 model) and just wondered does this package include the 'semi-autonomous' driving on motorways where you have to keep your hands on the wheel but it will steer for you and keep a specific distance from cars in front? Hi Dars Munawer,
      Yes most Mercedes-Benz can do that now for safety, it's there as an aid just in case you forgot to put the car into Park. It won't cause any more wear and tear if you're stationary and you do that.
      From a safety point of view, I'd always secure the car first though before opening the door! :)

      Next select the space you want on the screen using the wheel or touchpad on centre console and follow all of the instructions. When you get to the end, that’s when you can accelerate and brake and let the car do the steering.

    Just got back from a journey to Wales which had a lot of variable speed limits on the motorway, to be fair the system in our AMG A45 S worked flawlessly.As you said the second the car would pass under the sign it would instantly change on the dash to the correct limit.
    Do you know if there is anyway to adjust it so it will show the new limit before passing under the sign? say 50 yards before.
    Also when using the cruise control i noticed if i hit it up once it would set it to me currant speed,but if i pressed it up twice it would come up saying 70,is this a pre set cruise control speed for UK motorways ,so like a shortcut to the motorway limit ?

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi The Tech Giant,
      Thanks for watching ^_^
      Ah awesome, I bet that journey was a great drive and a perfect car to do it in!
      So on the right hand side of your steering wheel, you have the cruise control buttons.
      Left one - Select speed limit or cruise control
      Middle - Set what you’ve selected
      Right - Resume last speed
      Now the right hand one also will copy the data from traffic sign assist if you press up twice. So this is what it did when you tried it, I’m guessing you were on the motorway with a speed limit of 70mph when you did it! :)

    • @TheTechGiantYouTube
      @TheTechGiantYouTube Před 4 lety

      @@npoleary Yes that is correct,we were on the motorway.
      So if i were to double click it on the motorway and it set it to 70mph and then i hit a sign saying 50mph,would it automatically adjust it to 50mph or would I have to double click it again to confirm I now want 50mph instead of the previous 70mph.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  Před 4 lety

When the wipers are fully up and you hit the start button at the same time, the wipers will stop. Hint, make sure you put the wiper switch to fully off to ensure it does not accidentally go off while you have it positioned off the windshield. It will scratch the paint. There’s an easier way than that! I haven’t tested this on all Mercedes-Benz but the second you turn the ignition off and open the door, hold the wipe button on the indicator stalk (button on the end) but don’t press it too hard to spray.
      The wipers will then go into service mode and go vertical allowing to change wiper blades / wash the car etc
      Just remember to put them back down before turning back on!
      I haven’t tried this on all Mercedes-Benz but give it a go see if it works on yours!

How do you remember from driving a normal car ( can't think of a betrer way to say it). I did test drive one. I struggled with the left turn indicator quite a few times. My husband has a mercedes too and he did give me a tip but it didn't help me.😬 i know i will get there after driving it a few times in an empty car park somewhere. I'm also surprised after searching for a few days on google for help,nothing has come up on that. Maybe you would be the first to post a video on it. Hi thanks for your message,
      Just to reassure you, Active Lane Keeping Assist is there as a safety system and if you intentionally drive over a white line to avoid something then of course this system won't engage. It's basically there to stop someone drifting over if they were distracted by something etc.
      The indicators in the car are no different to normal indicators :)

And by animation i mean when you get inside a car and when you press the start/stop button a cool animation plays on the digital drivers display, it shows the Mercedes logo and then the front-end of the model you are in. Hi Sushant Mittal,
      I know the one you're talking about! I've seen it when getting in loads of times! There are no settings for this animation, but the animation appears only when you do this:
      (Make sure the car has been locked for a few minutes before doing this)
      Unlock the car, sit down and shut the door but only press the engine start/stop button without putting your foot on the brake pedal. It will then play the animation.
      If you do have your foot on the brake, it'll skip the animation and go straight to the screen you need to see (mph, revs etc)

    Active Lane Keeping Assist is terrible on my new CLA. The way it brakes one side of the car is quite violent and gives me a major fright when everything else is perfectly under control. To make matters worse it cannot be permanently disabled and is always on by default each time the engine is started. It is my car so I should be able to permanently turn it off if I choose to do so.
    Yes I realise the system will not react if an indicator is activated, but it is not always necessary to routinely do so.
    This is a system which has good intentions, but in practice is widely unpopular and disliked by owners.

    • @npoleary

    Speed limit assist seems a bit hit or miss in the B class (2020) shows the signs half the time and has been wrong on quite a few occasions. Also the limit disappears after a whole from the dash which seems to defeat the purpose entirely. Wish I had the option to upgrade to the traffic sign assist in my B class AMG line premium as it seems a far more reliable system.
    Also don't think mine has the active bonnet accordingto Euro Ncap.

      Hi Peter,
      Not sure if it's a new CLA with MBUX or the previous model but on the new one Traffic Sign Assist is part of the Premium Plus package so if you have that it's under Vehicle Settings (left screen) and then in a thing called Assistance. You should find it in there.
      If you have the previous model, it is located on the right screen, using the controls on the steering wheel keep pressing right until you find a thing either called settings or assistance and it'll be in there.

    I nearly got rear ended when my car decided to do a emergency stop, after having my car for not even 2 weeks from new.
    I was following a bus, not too closely, i didn't even have the red car icon on the dash, its started to indicate and slow to stop for a bus stop, i started to move over to overtake the bus, i was passed the line of the bus so could easily pass it, but all of a sudden my car did a emergency stop, all i heard was a van behind me screeching to a halt, then went on to beeping at me and swearing abuse, i didnt blame him, no reason for my car to do that, if i could turn off that function permanently i would, its dangerous

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi wolfe1970,
      So that sounds like it was Active Brake Assist performing that emergency stop. It is a really good system and has even saved lives on multiple occasions. People rave about it all of the time, however in this situation it sounds like the car thought there wasn't enough room to fit through and this is why it did this.
      Now I don't know for sure, but because driving is such a complex task and can involve many many different situations & scenarios it's difficult for me to say exactly what that happened here as the radar only detected an object approaching fairly quickly and the car thought that was the best course of action. It depends how close the bus was to your car etc.
      If you are concerned and you don't think that it's operating correctly, phone up and get your A-Class checked over by a Mercedes-Benz dealership just for peace of mind. You can also if you wish adjust the sensitivity of Active Brake Assist in 'Settings' then 'Assistance' on the left screen. Choose the option 'Late' to offer the red warning triangle, the sound and braking later than normal in the event of an emergency.

      For a long time before i got this car ive followed this function, more so on the Mercedes trucks, and seen how it can save lives, i like the feature, i just felt in this scenario it wasnt needed and could have ended badly for me, i could easily be accused of brake checking the driver behind and getting fined for it, specially if he had a dash cam and watched my emergency brake for no reason, that was more of my concern over the whole situation, i am more aware of it now so will perhaps leave more room when passing slow moving or stopped vehicles.
