I think he stayed because he knew his father was reckless and broken and he trusted his mother's decision-making more. "Come" has far more influence coming from Narcissa bc she acts for her family, not Voldemort. She is probably the reason the family left.

Not even close. He was an absolutely vile person. I know Tom Felton is amazing but Malfoy was a puke and a coward. Just hours before this he tried to kill Harry and Co. He always chose himself and was cruel and mean even before the war. Once Voldemort rose again and his consequences started catching up to him and he realized what he'd hoped would happen for years was actually horrifying he still chose his own safety over what was right. @@Almanatrix I read all the books before watching the movies and I have the same opinion, Draco only did the things he did and thought the things he thought because of the way his father raised him, and to make his father proud, he was never evil, he had many chances to actually harm Harry and he didn't, and you can see it in many movie scenes: when Harry did the Sectumsempra? when Harry was looking for the Diadem? when Harry was taken to Malfoy's house? Draco didn't harm him because he actually didn't want to, same reason why he didn't want to kill Dumbledore, he was on the dark side without choice

His family brought him up believing in what they believed in which was Voldemort. You can see Draco’s eyes are teary and that would make sense if they hadn’t cut the scene where Harry jumps out hagrids arms and Draco runs towards him saying “potter” then chucks his wand to him and looks like after that little part Draco was running to be with hogwarts side!
