That inch sounded like a lot inside the bell housing. But I guess with the way the flex plate is shaped it will take up a bit more than a standard flat plate I assume.
Let's say I installed a torque converter without a pilot bushing. Could this cause my transmission case to Crack? I lost my 8hp90 a week ago and I am thinking that the converter pilot is a smaller diameter than the crank housing

Standard GM flexplate sits 7/8" off the block. This is the same on SBC, BBC, Pontiac, Olds, Buick, and Cadillac, as well as LS engines.
