I have read that Waylon wrote this song for Jessi shortly after he kicked his severe cocaine habit “cold turkey” in 1984 - with only Jessi’s help. He credited her with saving his life. What a great couple! They were married for 33 years until Waylon unexpectedly passed away while taking a nap in 2002. Jessi still tours. She has never remarried. Waylon wrote another truly beautiful song “Just Watch Your Mama and Me”, which is here on CZcams. Waylon said he wrote the song about himself and Jessi for their 7 children - Waylon’s children: Terry, Buddy, Julie, Deanna, Tomi Lynne, and Waylon Albright (aka “Shooter”, who was Waylon’s only child with Jessi); and Jessi’s daughter, Jennifer, from her marriage to guitarist Duane Eddy.
I absolutely love this song, and the best country singer in the world singing it, We were truly blessed to have wittiness the greatness of country music from this man, Waylon was one of a kind and in his heart he never thought of himself as being a legend a icon in country music, he did exactly what he was born to do they will never be another fit in country music like Waylon was, I mean everything about him made him who he was, he fit country music to a T, from his rugged and tough looks, his voice, the way he walked, even his attitude was country music, Waylon was country music and there will never be another one 🎸
Yes yes yes I truly agree, that no matter what other singer tries to sing 1 of Waylons songs .They shall never ever come close to the greatest ever singer WAYLON JENNINGS. There no better feeling hearing Waylon sing from the soul while looking into the eyes of the woman who saved his life after being addicted to drugs and alcohol, I’m glad that he gave up his outlaw way of life since we could have lost him a lot sooner and wouldn’t ever get to hear this amazing song
Not alcohol, amphetamines and cocaine and sadly cigarettes that probably did the most to shorten his life. He disliked alcohol and didn’t want to deal with drinkers.
@@marlenepitts1509 he drank alot too.they said at his worse he drank 2 bottles of jack a day. Your right though. The cigarettes and coke was the worse. At one point he was doing 6 packs a day
Waylon Jennings sings this song with great devotion, his heart filled with love and his eyes see who he's singing about. Waylon's voice has a range and tone no other singer has, it's emotional, soft, deep and has clarity and thunderous tone. The love he has for Jesse is seen through his eyes and the same is said about Jesse's love for Waylon. They're an amazing example of what true love is, no need for words, their eyes say it all. RIP Waylon...you are truly missed.🎼🎸🎸🎸😢
Hearing Waylon sing this beautiful song to his wife just about broke my Heart. Could not stop crying they loved one another so much to bad couples these days don't feel this way about one another. I would give anything to find someone that loved me that much.Thank you Waylon for all your great music. So happy you and Jessi found one another.
Happy Birthday Waylon!!! You would have turned 80 today (6/15/17). You were the best and there will never be anyone that can compare to you. You are missed & not forgotten.
Patsy, Waylon wrote this song for Jessi after she alone helped him quit his severe cocaine addiction “cold turkey” in 1984. Waylon refused to go to a rehab clinic to detox stating “Betty Ford didn’t cause my addiction, and so it isn’t her responsibility to help me end it - it is my responsibility”. In 1996, Waylon won the Legend Award for his long time in the music business. Waylon brought Jessi onstage and gave the award to her, saying that he would not be alive to accept the award without Jessi’s love and support. Also, in Waylon’s 1996 autobiography, his love and deep respect for Jessi practically “leaps” off of every page. The couple was married for 33 years - from 1969 until Waylon’s untimely death in 2002. A true love story…

Missi R, I know what you mean. So many times in songs, I find it difficult to understand each word. In their “signature” song “Storms Never Last” Waylon does the same thing at the end of that song. If you have never heard “Storms Never Last”, you should take a listen. Its on CZcams. It’s a REALLY beautiful song that Jessi wrote for Waylon earlier in their marriage when he was very ill. Once his mind was clear, he said that he could see the toll that his drug abuse had taken on Jessi. In February of 2002, Jessi attempted to wake Waylon from a nap on the couch, and found that he had died in his sleep. He’s saying “Jessi” then winks at her, what a guy
Missi R, He is whispering “Jessi” as he nods to his wife, Jessi Colter, to whom he is singing this song.
@@Kayte-tv2cw oh wow thanks for the response!! I should have been able to figure that out!!! Now that I know and watch again...how could I have not known lol!!
They always sang that song together. At Waylon’s funeral, Jessi sang the song alone. Sad :(
Please take care of yourself and stay well!!
Beautiful
