  • Dr. H talks about how the genetic variant DRD4 7R (which is linked to ADHD) enabled hunters to be more alert and innovative in early humans, and how modern life has evolved to benefit more sedentary behaviors. But there's good news, because Ned thinks that is changing!

My adhd had me needing to skip back 30 seconds for every 20 seconds of listening but I eventually made it through. Very interesting

Take any ted lecture. Listen to it on normal speed - focus will be lost. BUT. listen to it again, this tine speeding it up a little…I had a wow experience, it becomes easier to pay attention! 1.5x worked for me. I think the real reason for losing focus when listening to stuff is that the speech (aka data) is simply too slow for an adhd brain. It’s easier for us to find the 5 pieces of important info in a fast-10-minutes long video than in a slow-15-minutes long one.. Try it out, I love this method.

Good to know im not the only one who thinks we are born this way for hunting advantages and not as a disorder as people try to label us

Hunting is about concentration and planning. Its not about willy nilly b.s. Even wolves and orcas have to concentrate and plan. If you have 'adhd' stop considering yourself a victim and figure out how to get control over your mind and your body to do what YOU want to make it do. Cook your own food{too much sugar in american food or processed foods}, exercise to burn off excessive energy, figure out what you like and you'll find something that you can be good at and maybe even monetize.
But remember that DOERS, and most ppl, don't give a crap about what disabilities you have unless they're physical. I.e. missing limbs or anything that prevents you from surviving independently that is permanent. The animal world doesn't care about adhd and according to this hunter theory street dogs would die off . All bullshit. Take control of your life, be independent , develop a can do attitude and you'll be happier

I agree 100%. It makes me want to bang my head off the wall when people try to normalize being this way. I used to think this way too and now I know it's complete bs after I grew up and had shit to take care of. Learning how to do anything is challenging but not impossible. So all these adhd symptoms people complain is one big fat excuse not to take any responsibility for your life. It's not easy and our society breeds us to get hooked on all kinds of distractions so we're essentially easier to control. It's sad and makes me disgusted tbh. So of course it feels easier to just accept it, but you won't be happier unless you learn to take control of your life like you said.
