I don’t know if I can express how much I love accordion as part of the arrangement for Les Mis
ikr gets me every time...love this song
I agree, the accordion gives such richness to this song. Great arrangement.
The accordion gives it that French cafe sound.
@@thejenr8tr922 As much as I want it to be- it's not historically accurate.
@@Zanthorrtbf they aren’t even singing in French anymore
I have never loved someone's voice more. He has such an amazing and raw voice that just touches my heart, it doesn't matter what he's singing.
I saw Josh twice in Concert. THIS is why he IS who he IS. Perfection!
I don't know how this song hit others when it was first performed. When I first heard it was after 9/11 and those boys I grew up with ready and waiting for their orders.
He gives me goosebumps with his raw low key notes. So beautiful!
I really like this song. There’s a great message there. Josh has a really nice voice and the orchestration was fabulous. We all praise the vocalist but sometimes forget the dedication of years perfecting how to play an instrument correctly and together with others, make a beautiful sound.
Beautiful! Love Josh's voice singing anything! Gives me goosebumps!!!
This is my absolute favourite song from Les Mis. This is the best version I have ever heard. Simply beautiful ❤️
Try listening to the 10th anniversary edition where Michael Ball sings the song. The Full version of the play should be on youtube here somewhere. The 10th anniversary edition is my favorite.
@@romyannhoover4424 that performance is the standard to which I hold all performances of this song....
The part that makes this song a deeper tragedy is the fact the revolution was a disaster. “Friends don’t ask me what your sacrifice was for”. When you study the history, its an exclamation point on the pain the song brings.
this surprisingly has a lot of great comet vibes with the chandellier and the decoration. this is BEAUTIFUL !!
I agree that he is just going through the motions. His training has served him well.
This sounds amazing! The one thing I would say as someone who has sung this song and been doing theatre for 6 years now, is that he isn’t in character as far as emotion goes. The thing is, in this song in particular, that emotion and feeling adds so much impact and is a really big part of the song, so it feels like something is missing from the number
Absolutely. This is sung so well but it needs that emotional attachment. It adds levels to the piece.
I listened to it with my eyes closed and, it helped. He sure doesn’t “look” in character, for sure, but in the listening there is plenty of crescendo and sadness and emotion
Couldn’t agree more! Perfectly sung but not with the significant emotion of the play
He's not meant to sound just like he's performing in the musical. The whole point of the Stages album was to show that these songs could stand alone and live and breathe on their own outside of a musical and still be beautiful.
Michael Ball will always be my Marius
wow this guy is impeccable
A young British boy sings this well also but Josh is terrific .
Cormac Thompson is the boys name . When you hear is version everybody else is a hack
the older you are, the more this song hurts when you hear it somewhere unprepared
Magical Josh Groban inspirational a Fan for many Years
Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful there’s nothing else to say
Say what you will, but I prefer songs that keep to the melody like this version!
Yes this is very clearly a concert. Josh has a nice voice
Josh thank you so much you have the most incredible voice. This song is so sad and you sing it with so much emotion. Brilliant.
Lovely 🌹❤️ To watch him singing this is saw the play.....
Josh Groban voice is unbelievable!!!!
Wonderful ,amazing voice and the the composition and the expression. Thank you
Regardless of the naysayers , this is brilliant. Let the ones who critique do better.
Not criticising, I am a huge Josh fan, but listen to this then Michael Ball singing it at the Les Mis 10th Anniversary concert, and there is no comparison.
I love this and I love Josh Groban, but I agree Michael Ball has a voice more suited to Broadway - Josh, as great as he is, just doesn't have the power and depth. But this is still one of my favorite version... and he ain't Nick Jonas, so he's got that going for him!
Beautiful Josh'svoice singing love!The best❤❤❤
Such an amazing voice he has 😭👌🎤🎶🎹❤️
¡Qué delicia, poder volver a escuchar todos estos temas, muchas, muchas gracias por postarlos!
do not at in any way imagine pierre bezukhov singing this about andrei bolkonsky bc i am crying in this club and everything hurts
oh this HURTS FUCK
Beautiful Thank you 💙💚💗💯
No 1 👍😁 Male performer ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow! Just wow! I loved hearing the rawness in your tone, the controlled power and interpretation with this beautiful song. I have got go get to a concert of yours-loved you for years!!
You are amazing.... absolutely amazing.... thank you for your passion...
Y’all stop comparing! He’s an artist who is singing to sing the song. So stop and just appreciate the art.
I liked the accordion at the end
FABULOUS 🤩❤️💕❤️ powerful voice !!!!! Chills on top chills. From this performance.
It's him, Josh Groban
This is my favorite comment :D :)
He would’ve been the perfect casting!
There's a grief that can't be spoken,
There's a pain goes on and on.
Empty chairs at empty tables,
Now my friends are dead and gone.
Here they talked of revolution,
Here it was they lit the flame,
Here they sang about tomorrow and tomorrow never came.
From the table in the corner,
They could see a world reborn,
And they rose with voices ringing,
And I can hear them now
The very words that they have sung
Became their last communion
On this lonely barricade, at dawn.
Oh my friends, my friends forgive me
That I live and you are gone
There's a grief that can't be spoken,
And there's a pain goes on and on
Phantom faces at the window,
Phantom shadows on the floor,
Empty chairs at empty tables where my friends will meet no more.
Oh my friends, my friends don't ask me
What your sacrifice was for
Empty chairs at empty tables
Where my friend will sing no more.
Thank you for the wonderful lyrics
Thank for taking time to put words of the song here❤
This song is so captivating.
Goosebumps
Bellissima voce, mette i brividi nell'ascoltarla, mi piace
Love this - and I think he sings it beautifully.
ive been a fan of his for 20 years he was the first i hear him sing this song so...this is my version but mr rmayne sang it well in the movie. i cant get this song out of my heart
Lindo...talentoso...amo Josh Groban🤗
Lovely voice!
Alluring
OUTSTANDING
Great Voice
Wow wow wow!!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤
I’m really disappointed in myself because I literally only recognize him as Pierre from the Great Comet.

Beautiful performance...I just can't stop laughing at the thought of Andy sitting in the audience frustrated that Walter Jr. stole his limelight once again.
Even funnier, now that Josh...errr...Walter Jr is starring as Sweeney Todd on Broadway, while Andy was limited to Anthony, the Sailor, in a rinky-dink community theatre production.
Superbe! Merci, Josh!
Try Jonathan Antoine with Tina Guo on cello. You WILL tear up!
I feel, tragic songs need not be sung perfectly. But the emotions need to be conveyed effectively.
and they were not. though he sings correctly enough its like watching a picture of the mona lisa its not quite the mona lisa.
Love Josh but Michael Ball’s rendition is GREAT as well as Gethsemane is AWESOME .
I agree with the other comments. As much as I love him and his beautiful voice, you can't feel the pain when he sings it. Personally, I love Eddie's the most.
Dia Elasivich he’s singing in a concert not in a movie. I like Eddie redmayne but his acting is his talent not his singing.
doug avila i agree with u telling the setting differences but the song itself is about pain and guilt and he sang it without any hint of these two, yes it is a concert but it doesnt mean that he should focus more on the technicality of the song rather than what feelings it should portray
doug avila and also eddie did a great job when he sang this, u like his acting, on the other, hand his singing for me was outstanding
@@GeloEats no offence, but his singing was like a nails screeching on a blackboard. Acting was good though. I mean most of the singing for the movie was bad.
david W that discredits your opinion, he was clearly capable of singing or wouldn’t have been casted and also wouldn’t be loved so much. You comment just to hate on a people you don’t know without giving any constructive criticism. Go be negative elsewhere.
Best Male performer of our Time !!!🌟🌟🌟🌟❣️❤️💕❤️💕❤️❣️🌟
I guess you haven't heard of Dimash have you?
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
😘🌟🌟🌟🌟
where can you get the painloarrangement for Josh's version..anyone know?
does anyone know what key this is in this recording, i think it’s different from the og but not sure
His focus is on his voice not the emotion so i cant feel the pain and emotion in the song
Its a concert, its not a play/musical
I listen to many version, I am not satisfied. I can't find the one that connect. This one is ok though.
👍🏼🌹❤️❤️❤️❤️
He's really good at singing this song just needs a stand alone Mike and do what sorry Michael Ball does at the near end raises both arms to bring even more emotion to this brilliant song
살아남이 더 슬프네용

Brilliant voice but I conquer with others, he doesn’t have that passion, that saddness. One of my favorite songs from Les Miserables.
Comparison is not interesting, appreciation is much more accurate.
Much as I love Josh’s voice I can’t lie, Eddie Redmayne’s emotional rendition is so much better in my humble opinion. So much feeling!!!!!!!
great musicans, although I prefer the original arrangement
No one did it like Michael Ball sorry
Jonathan Antoine sings this like nobody else.
Good voice, no emotions.
Well, I think he's singing it as Josh Groban as opposed to Maurice Pontmercy. You should hear him in The Great Comet of 1812 though! He puts a lot of emotion into that role! It's wonderful. He's my favorite Pierre Bezukhov.
This song is great but does'nt make narrative sense
Lmao 😂
neither can i feel any pain
I'm not QUITE sure what it is, but even though I really like his voice and I think he's a brilliant singer, there's something about this video that doesn't sit with me quite well. Maybe I'm wrong and I'm thinking this because of how much I love Michael Ball as Marius, but it just puts me off ever so slightly.
Seokjun An why do u remind me of john maclean
@@GeloEats Do I?
How can you sing so good with so little emotion? It is a song about pain, yet he sings like a song about a sunny afternoon walk.
This guy could audition for X factor !!
... Josh Groban could audition for the x factor? 😂
...josh groban doesnt NEED to audition for x factor.. he already has a career and songs that have reached the top
I really am hoping this is a joke
Lol... chil’ anyways
Now my friend Laura is dead in peace
Technically great but I prefer the appropriate emotions that this song demands.
Maybe if these empty chairs and empty tables were added to the barricade his friends would still be here?
Jk
😂
Hier geht es doch nur um die Stimme. Wie gut ist sie für dieses Lied, manches sollte er hält nicht singen
Now josh groban is a good singer, but I have to say, his voice isn’t powerful enough for this song
He has an amazing voice, but I just don't think that it fits this song.
#memories my friends are dead and gone Elon Musk..Valiant..Les Miserables..late 90's on the Battlefield..1 billion USD in gold..where is it hidden??..it's 9+ Billion USD today..i'd GIVE The Donald Trump his 500m if he'd STAY OUT of politics..USA needs to START ALL OVER.. #Domis2Cents
Cool voice but it’s not sang with any emotion :/ Michael Balls version soooo much better imo.
Mikethamanc glad you can tell us amateurs,
Can’t feel anything 😢
Sorry I don't believe you Josh, sounds to me like you are singing about someone else's experience not your own!
Eddie Redmayne is better. This guy seems like he’s never had actual friends.
william thomas Josh is a singer, not an actor; we can’t blame him for focusing on the musical aspects rather than the theatrical
