It brings a warmth to my heart seeing Rafa is always constantly there accompanying Roger on his last day, from his last practice, his last presser, his last match, his last prep, his last walk on and off the court, being a solid rock and support on what must've been a very difficult day for roger 🥺 this is probably the greatest gift they both can give to one another

I love the teamwork at 6:39. The way they both scrambled and kept the ball in play, both hitting lobs off backhand half volleys, one of them stepping up as the other staggers back. I wonder how many slams they would’ve won if they just spent their whole careers playing as a doubles team.

The beauty of tennis is the ever changing guard and once in a while you have epic matches and epic players and epic rivalries. I recall an exhibition match between Laver and a 17 year old Borg, and Laver winning. I also loved rivalries like McEnroe and Connors. Then there was Sampras and Agassi, Roddick. It's hard to watch Roger ride off into the sunset but didn't he give us years of sheer enjoyment!

I wish you showed when Rafa said he needed to use the bathroom and Roger said he will go with him and the whole team followed them out the arena to go to the bathroom. The clip is on twitter and it cracks me up every-time i watch it bc its so funny. Also, wish you put together the moments of the interview when they both said what each other means to them. That was another special moment including when Roger asked if he will see Rafa later and he said he will wait for him.. Thanks for piecing this bit together!!!

Lol yeah, Roger, (41 yrs, with bad knee) barely playing for the last 1,5 yrs with Rafa, (36 yrs, abdomen tear that never fully healed, stressful situation back home) had a match point against Tiafoe (had an amazing run prior at US open) and Sock (3x GS Champ double titlist). No, no he couldn’t have. He wanted to win more, but he couldn’t. In fact he’s extremely lucky Soderling beat Nadal in 2009, otherwise Fed wouldn’t have the career slam. Still the 3rd best of all time though.

I think there's a lot more to it than that. He's sad that he had to retire because of an ongoing injury but also because of his global fanbase and popularity. His name has become associated with tennis, almost as if he is and symbolises tennis. It's hard for someone like him to let go, especially after his heartbreaking losses, most notably to Djokovic in 2019. The fact that he wasn't able to go out there and compete for one last time must have been agonising for him.
