Hi Nick I've been following your channel since stumbling across the Porsche incident, and I have to say that if I'd picked up a brand new BMW and there was a red flashing light the second I left the dealership, I'd be bloody livid! We just collected our first ever family car on Monday (sapphire black Volvo V40 Cross Country Powershift LX with dual colour leather interior) and I'm really chuffed with it. I realise that doesn't compare to a car like yours but the feeling was still incredible, and as they say, 'from small acorns...' I look forward to your next video...

Congrats on the new car Nick. I took an M4 for a drive a few weeks ago..... I wasn't blown away. The noise was the biggest shock, or lack of (compared to the V8). Loved the interior and particularly the HUD! Not sure I would have one over a 911.......
Picked up mine around end of June, Austin Yellow's pretty stunning. 3000 mile's in so far, just about my favorite car. I've a 458, a 12C, M6 Gran Coupe, F10 M5, X6 M... whatever, the F82's my all time favorite car.
Nick Murray That whining noise when coming to a stop is actually the rough finish on the steel brake rotors. If you look at the rotors, you'll see swirl lines, and they're actually etched into the rotors. This helps bed the brake pads in, and the noise will slowly go away as you drive the car. I work at Otto's BMW in West Chester, PA and noticed the same noise on our M3 demo. It now has close to 500 miles on it and the noise is almost gone. The "Efficient Dynamics" only toggles the alternator on and off. There's no separate charger or any actual "brake energy regeneration" going on. If the battery level is above a certain threshold, the alternator turns off under acceleration and when idling and engages under deceleration. As for the noise piped into the cabin, per BMW, only about 3-4% of the noise you hear is coming through the speakers...everything else is real.

As soon as you brake or take your foot off the accelerator, the kinetic energy is captured and fed to the battery. This reduces the amount of power the battery takes from the engine and hence lowers fuel consumption. When the driver presses the accelerator, on the other hand, the alternator is decoupled from the drivetrain. With fewer components drawing power from the drivetrain, more of the engine's output can go into accelerating the car. M4 Brake Energy Regeneration: Every time the brakes are hit, kinetic energy is generated and until recently this energy went unused. Brake Energy Regeneration takes advantage of this long-overlooked potential. It harnesses the coasting energy that is generated whenever the driver brakes or takes his or her foot off the accelerator and turns it into electricity.

There are no separate motors in the wheel hubs or on either axle that engage under deceleration. The only BMWs that actually use an electric motor for generation under deceleration are the i3, i8, and the ActiveHybrid lineup. I can guarantee you that this grinding/whining noise he was hearing is long gone by now, because it's just the brake rotors. What BMW describes as brake energy regeneration really just is the intelligent engaging and disengaging of the alternator based on acceleration/deceleration/battery state of charge/current draw from car electronics/ etc., and every car with an internal combustion engine in BMW's lineup does this.
I am not much of a BMW fan but I have to admit that this car looks absolutely stunning particularly in that colour. Great colour choice makes the M4 look even better. Hope you have much better luck with this machine then you had with the 911.

I looked at the M4 and for a moment I almost bought one.. yet right after driving a Model S P85 from TESLA.. I love my TESLA and not having to deal with expensive maintenance from BMW. I made the right decision!
Glad to see you got it sorted mate. The BM looks like a very nice machine. Good choice on the Red too, it's different from what you normally see, especially here in Aus where everything is Black or Silver! But did notice no sunroof mate!

Hey, Airbag light came on to warn you that the Passenger airbag wasn't active even though it's detecting some weight due to the stuff you put on the seat. Just a precaution especially for when you have kids sitting in the front seat.
Congratulations Nick! Keep the throttle in sport plus. This is what happens when you get far in life guys, you get to spend your money on nice stuff. f**k you haters.
A word of advice: In order to put the car in park on ANY DCT M car, simply press the stop button to turn the engine off while still in gear (or reverse) and the car will go into park. Notice the "P" in the dash display under the speedo. I work at a BMW dealer... Beautiful car, enjoy it !
Nick Murray Hmm that's odd. Are you sure you didn't have it in N to begin with ? If you have it in neutral and hit the button it will stay in N and you have to use the parking brake. It will only work when the car is in gear, and you switch it off. Also, I hope you bought the wheel and tire package. They tend to pick up nails and the M cars wear tires down quickly.
William B No I watch it carefully just in case it is something I am doing. Tried with foot on brake foot off brake, in D or in S, I can not figure it out. Seems others are having the same issue.

My perfect mods for this car: Stock sized rims using the stock tires(M4's have such fine handling geometry that I want the stock tires), front lip, rear spoiler, a mod that allows me to watch top gear on the screen in a true sports car in surround sound(can bmw apps do that? netflix on the bmw apps internet browser maybe?)....and then a button that temporarily closes the boost valves so you can retain that stock M4ness but have a little power boost button when you're sure you can lay the lay the power. 450hp is a fine line with power. bringing it to a permanent 550hp would likely reduce the lap times.

I test drove the F82 manual... it was nice but not good enough to trade my E92 in.... so I kept my E92 M3 and bought a 997 !!! HAHAHAH! love it!
