  • The Adeptus mechanicus, once known simply as the Mechanicum of Mars, was a political entity that came out of the Age of Strife even before the Imperium of man existed. It became a close ally of the Imperium during the beginnings of the great crusade and merged together as a quasi singular union. But during the Heresy, the faction split into the dark mechanicum that aligned with chaos and the would be Adeptus Mechanicus that aligned with the Emperor of man and humanity as a whole. So, the present day mechanicus is but a shadow of its former self but yet, it is still the most powerful autonomous segment of the larger Imperium. It has its own void fleet which is also known as the Basilikon Astra. It maintains this fleet independent of the much larger Imperial Navy, while also building the human fleet and maintaining most of the ships of the wider Imperium. While most of their void ships are identical to the ones used by the other Imperial factions such as the Astartes, the navy and the Inquisition, there are still quite a few unique ones that only they have the privilege of operating and fabricating. One such type of ship is the Ark mechanicus and that’s why we are here right boys? To dive deep into the lore and even deeper into the jewel of their class, the Speranza.

The explicit quote of it being "continent-sized" should probably be taken in the simplest, clearest possible context from the perspective of the average reader.
Basically, what would someone think when something is described as being "continent-sized"? They would imagine that thing as being around the size of one of the main continents on modern Earth. Now, being conservative in its scale, the smallest continent on Earth is Australia, which at it's longest point measures roughly 4005 kilometers. The unfinished hull of the ship being easily seen from space of the forge world it was embedded in would also support something this size. So would the fact that it is described to have an industrial capability rivaling that of a whole forge world, and that it's host planet broke apart once the ship freed itself from its mass. If the ship was much smaller, like 250km in length, then it would not do nearly as much physical damage to the forge world, just leaving a large crater and field of debris in a single direction from the back last of the engines, but the world itself would be mostly intact.
And in terms of physical appearance, the art you showed in 4:44 would make more sense, as it gives more of a robust internal volume for a ship that large to move around more easily without having to put too much stress on any specific part of its hull, which would be more of a problem for a similarly-sized ship that looked like a normal Ark. The wider triangular shape of the ship in the art also gives the ship more room for lots of facilities and resources that would make it worthy of having the title of being like its own forge world.
This is just my opinion, though.

Comparing the Dark Mechanicum and the Adeptus Mechanicus in terms of power is complicated, as both have their own strengths and weaknesses. The Adeptus Mechanicus is a fundamental part of the Warhammer 40K Empire, controlling vast technological resources and holding ancient knowledge. They are an established and influential force within the Empire.
On the other hand, the Dark Mechanicum is a renegade faction that has turned to Chaos, seeking power through technological manipulation and forbidden knowledge. They have access to technology and weapons corrupted by Chaos, making them a dangerous threat to the Empire.
In terms of sheer power, the Adeptus Mechanicus likely has more resources and influence, but the Dark Mechanicum may be more unpredictable and challenging due to their use of Chaos. Therefore, it's difficult to say which is more powerful, as it may depend on the specific context of the situation or war at hand.

We recently saw Admech unleashed the forbidden weapons and Dark age relics against the Necron.
Suffice to say that the shits in the forbidden vaults are really scary.

O imagine the Speranza Ship before being renovated and re-designated as Ark Mechanicus was originally a Titan Class Dreadnought Flagship of the Golden Age Human Fleet, a frontline and last line of defense ship against the Men of Iron at the height of the war.
Somewhere out there in the Large and Small Magellanic cloud some Golden Age Humans and ships have probably and still exist having escaped that great cataclysmic war since Golden Age Humans possess FTL non-warp tech that doesn't require ships to navigate inside the Empyrean/Warp Space that is also a lot more faster than the current warp tech.

Many unaware that in Speranza, at least what it recorded, there is a piece of technology capable of erasing space and time in system wide area.

At a certain point, it just makes more sense to have a handful of immensely powerful, but smaller ships than something like this.
You'd need a massive fleet of tender ships just to keep the damn thing operational.

The Phalanx is bigger, 1100 km wide disc, 300 km thick with massive cones 300 km on top and the bottom. The interior deck space is greater than the surface area of Terra.

the size sounds like one of those older concepts back in the day when titans were kilometersized instead of somewhat more reasonable
