  • An apology? Refunds? A roadmap or sorts? And even a console release window? Let's talk about the latest update from Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive. TL;DR... it's still a dumpster fire.

As time goes on I'm getting the feeling this game will eventually be abandoned. Most of the fanbase said screw it and went back to CS1. Paradox probably had enough and gave them an ultimatum, fix the game, or we are pulling the plug. Even bigger apology would be we are opening up the Steam Workshop and asset modding today.

lol very true, in fact they are still charging about 35 - 40 bucks for CS1, a fair recompense would be offering people CS1 with all DLC and mods included for free and telling them to wait for re-release of CS2 in early 2026 when it should be actually ready.

    • @jasmeetbrar8609
      @jasmeetbrar8609 Před měsícem +5

Yeah exactly! They can arbitrarily add as little content as possible in their DLC’s and say that’s worth it’s some arbitrary amount because they say so. The Beachfront DLC was garbage and it’s barely anything, and yet they were charging $10 for it. Somehow 4x that content is expected to compensate for the players that shelled out their money for the ultimate edition, only for them to get such a mediocre experience, and now they have to wait even longer for their promised DLC’s, just so that they can fix the game, even though it should’ve been stable in the first place.

"We are aware that our customers are extremely unhappy, and we will do anything possible to avoid a class-action lawsuit. Please accept this empty gesture as our acknowledgment that we screwed up. So, as a token of our appreciation we're going to give you your money back and an unfinished DLC for free that we never should have released in the first place.
And if you bought the Ultimate Edition, we regret to inform you that we can't give you a refund, but we're going to give you more unfinished crap that doesn't work in 6 months.

I haven't built one with the additional tiles unlocked yet, so I will probably start a new build and see how that plays differently. If they really understood the disappointment maybe they shouldn't have rushed out the game in such a poor early access state for full price. There is no way they didn't know it was far from ready. Paradox dlc have been even more overpriced lately so the "value" of 40 bucks is just made up, especially if you consider the quality of the game so far. Unless the game is actually improved don't trust what they say. They do not deserve the benefit of a doubt anymore.
I'm not sure about the feedback from the select few players who will be in the meeting. Honestly I don't really trust the content creators since they withheld so many problems about the game before release. Even if they 100% believed all the performance and other issues would magically be fixed before release (lol) they SHOULD have said something about it. At least mentioned it.
Never trust marketing, their job is literarily to lie in your face. Never trust roadmaps because they're pure marketing. Oh we'll totally fix the game, oh no not now but in the future, just keep giving us money NOW and we'll totally fix everything in the future honest.

I do hope that they manage to pull it back but I'm getting so tired of games that clearly aren't ready for prime-time being pushed out the door. and being labelled as "toxic" by the content creators as you rightly point out, depend on CS for their income, essentially telling people to believe them and ignore their own lying eyes. I have a high end rig and at best CS2 is a city decorator with performance issues, nowhere near the personality that CS1 has. It's been such a disappointment.

I’m still trying to understand why this game is so CPU heavy. At this point they should probably reach out to other companies and game devs for advice or business consulting on how to optimize it. In its current state on PC I don’t know how they are going to get Sony or MS to approve this for a console release.
Granted I’m not a professional gamer but when the strain on my cpu is very high, but my gpu is in sleep mode, it doesn’t make sense. Every other game I play the gpu is the workhorse NOT the cpu. I have a 5800X3D, only this game pushes it to its limits. I don’t know if it’s their game engine or what, but the graphics and gameplay don’t equate to the system resources being used

    • @willywonka6487

there is a lot of simulation.
it makes sense, however what doesnt make sense is performance barely increasing with a lot more cores even though its supposedly optimized to use all and outs them under load.
Anyways, I think they made the wrong choice making the simulation so deep- its still bad and has little impact on gameplay.
At the same time, after certain population even the simulation starts dropping and later on there is basically no pathfinding simulation at all.
So it both fails to simulate as well as being playable performance.

None of these even strain my PC in any way. Nail 60 fps with ease and I only have a 3070 gpu. It’s my CPU that’s being overworked.
The reason I can tell is it heats up. The other games never touch 70 C. I’ll be sitting at 75 C on the loading screen and throughout gameplay. That’s cpu temp not gpu. My gpu stays around mid 50’s that’s why I’m saying something isn’t correct. It’s only this game. The other games my gpu will go into high 60’s C but cpu stays cool telling me it’s using the graphics card to handle the workload

I didn't buy CSII because things seems off about it even before launch, AND I stopped playing CS because without further support, the way I played it (with a lot of workshop assets) was going to slowly deteriorate over time, making many of my cities unplayable or needing to be drastically re-worked to fix.

I got into paradox games around a decade ago and it seems pretty clear the best way to approach any game they are involved with is to buy it long after release, when they have the complete game with all the dlc done. Otherwise you're playtesting a half baked game for them and paying every step of the way to have a complete game. Granted, the games are playable in a base state, but half the game is locked behind dlc typically.

Sad thing is, they are trying to “save” this game by modders. Yep tons of mods out now giving us what should have been in the base game. I see what their doing, let’s get Biffa and them in there to talk up how cool the game is with the mod now, stay completely silent, and a year from now this will all be behind us and we can start slamming out paid DLC’s

  • @arakwar
    @arakwar Před měsícem +1

You've put word on why I am not happy with the compensation on the Ultimate edition. People in the community try to argue that "we still get what we paid for"... But they fail to understand how Colossal Order just made things worse with this.
One thing I've been told is : "Creator packs are similar to beach property DLC". But since the DLC is now free, why are the others so expensive? Right now the ultimate edition is the exact same thing than the base game, for more money, and a promise to deliver something, which they failed to do so on multiple occasion.
I do regret buying the game. I usually don't do preorders, but I was confident with the coverage they did that the game was going to be decent at launch. I was not expecting it to be perfect, most games are released with issues now. But this is far beyond any reasonable first week patches.
Colossal Order needs to step up for real. Or Paradox needs to step in and make things right. For me, both CO and Paradox names are associated with this failure. It's going to influence any future purchase decision.

Every game in the last few years is broken on release and fixed slowly, very slowly, over 3-5 years. It's not that bad. Just look at Manor Lords. Same genre, medieval city builder. Even the demo a year ago was playable very well, a revelation in game design. Way way better than cs2. And only 1 programmer. Either you've got skill and talent or you don't. CO were lucky with cs1 in making a better copy of simcity. But now they're running out of luck, failing to improve their own game. Maybe there is skill but no talent. Or the other way around.

Cyberpunk, No Man's Sky, Starfield, Cities II...I dunno what's going on with suits who can't realize that they'll be facing a nightmare of bad pub, loss of respect for the companies (I haven't bought a Sony game since the demise of SWG) and wariness of the consumer to buy their future products. And these are Big Boys. CDPR, Sony, Bethesda and Paradox are some of the brightest stars in gaming in recent years. All of them have been tainted, and we're all "buyer beware" of their upcoming projects. And yet, the suits are clueless. Ah, the 21st Century. Gotta love it.
Meanwhile, we see the Little Guys coming up with Stranded, Satisfactory, BG3, Nightingale, Coral Island and a host of other polished titles at reasonable prices. And while each has minor problems, they're wonderful games with huge potential for the future. Until, of course, the suits realize there's money to be made, and we go through the cycle once again.

Tbh, I picked up the game today after a couple of months of not playing and it was… fine 🤷🏻‍♂️ I really think it needs assets in the mod store so cities can look better, but a lot of the performance issues have been resolved for me. The game seems to run as well as cs1 and my machine is a few years old. One thing I did was uninstall and reinstall on the ssd. Running off a regular hdd was borderline unplayable. Not sure if that will help others, but it’s worth a try if you haven’t done that. The game mechanics have also changed a bit since the last time I played it. Like there was a bug where you needed an infinite supply of elementary schools, but now it seems to work correctly. I wish they had waited to release it, but some people are acting like nothing is being done, when I can see a significant difference from when it was first released. Once the assets are available to download, I’ll be happy enough with it.

Half baked, mandatory apology that feels copy-pasted from other apologies. They apologised a lot after the game was released and still tried to drop rubbish DLC on the community, only to apologise after the backlash was worse than they expected. I guess they were expecting people to Hoover up CS2 DLC like they did with CS1 content.
I like that they're trying to engage with 'the community' to hopefully fix the game going forward, but when the community amounts to content creators who rely on the game and not every day gamers, that means squat to me.
I certainly won't be rushing out to get the console version if/when it's released. I had it on pre-order originally, one of the best things they did with CS2 was to cancel and refund those pre-orders.

Or an early access release with a cheaper price tag. To finish the foundation of a game, for long term. I bet the release decsion was made by the publisher paradox. Poor devs. Fxing it now is near impossible without breaking savegames.

I actually liked the fact that this is from both CO and Paradox. I have 11 games on Steam that I bought based on demos, early access, or friends' recommendations that I don't play, won't play, and will never get my money back on. Any compensation on CS2 is more than I expected. I want CS2 to be successful because I don't it to be #12. So I don't wish any ill on CO or Paradox. But the fact that they totally ignored what the Workshop contributors had submitted to improve CS year after year is beyond belief. Their customers already voted for what they wanted through Workshop downloads. Why did they ignore it? Was it because they were so locked into what they had originally wanted CS to be a decade ago? I don't know, but I question if they can truly give us what we wanted and also doubt that they can give us what they wanted. Yes, they can fix things and improve things, but I feel the design decisions made years ago might now preclude CO from making the changes the game needs. We'll see. In the meantime, City Planner Mismanages has a good discussion on who should be in that small group.

Sir thank you for doing this video and providing your feedback.
However when it comes to the letter of apology from both of these companies you should seriously take it with a grain of salt. Because you need to read between the lines that they are not 100% going to be up and honest with any of you. The letter also proves that the game is poorly mismanaged and poorly developed because of the mismanagement in the company which is literally started from the CEO and down. Believe it or not this is a classic example of a situation where there is too much management and two little employees to do the job.
It is also clear based on the information and research that I have done on the graphic engine that they are using which is a newer version. That their current employees do not have enough knowledge and training on how to use this new graphic engine and its features. It is also clear that upper management is not giving their employees enough time to learn this new graphic engine and it's features and not enough time to build the game correctly. Because also from what I have learned about this graphic engine and it's features that it could very easily handle this game with no trouble if the coding in the engine was used correctly and it is more than obvious that it isn't use correctly in CS2.
Believe it or not, all the problems that everybody is experiencing game is due to a poorly coated game and a game where again their employees do not have enough time to build it correctly. The only way they're gonna be able to build this game correctly is first get upper management and the CEO away from it as far as possible. Second, they need to give those employees who are working on the game as much time as possible to do what they need to do to get the job done right and stop rushing them. Then if they fall all of this the game will work correctly.
Now as far as the console version of the game goes don't expect to see that for at least another two years at least. If they state that they could do it in less than two years then don't buy it until you watch it and see how it goes for six months. Because the PC version has to be running near perfectly before you ever consider working on a console version.
