  • This is the first of three to four compilation videos of the Nova Bus RTS-06 fleet.
This fleet of buses lasted roughly about 22 years in service in both Express(buses 9250-9349) & Local service. They entered service at MTA Bus in around 2009-2010, when the first 9300-series buses were sent over to LaGuardia Depot from Ulmer Park Depot to retire the older RTS buses.
The last buses in this fleet ended service at LaGuardia Depot last year.
This video is 1 hour of footage from my 12 years of filming this fleet of buses, in every borough but Staten Island. These buses were powered by a Detroit Diesel Series 50 DDEC engine with an Allison VR-731 transmission. However, there were some differences in the fleet, as 9140-9149 had Cummins M11E engines, and 9048 and a few others had Series 50 EGR engines.
I hope you guys enjoyed the video. Subscribe & stay tuned for more!!

Yep those Detroit Diesel Series 50, 8.5L w/ the Allison VR731 ATEC were good powerhouses for those buses, I loved them.

@Bread And Circuses Part of the reason was that those buses were in service for a good 20 years with that Engine for MTA prior to be pushed out in favor of Hybrid Electric Buses and more CNG Buses for of course, Environmental reasons. We had Orion V's from the years 2000-2019 for the DC area with Detroit Diesels and those buses outlasted the New Flyer C40LF's and even our Orion VII CNG buses that came on board just 2 to 4 years after the Orion V's were in service.

I missed my times with these out of ENY, FB, FP, and UP depot. Especially, my uncle I see operated one 1996 series RTS on the B7(ex.ENY route) in 2009(riding while he's driving) and he made the bus have excellent power until he dropped me off at Snyder Ave. I wish I rode the Cummins M11E units(9140-49), but Fresh Pond routes did not touch my neighborhood. Thanks for this compilation, Shane.

Got to admit that these are the greatest if not long time lasted buses in all decades. Compared to the others some of which the other companies that manufacturer buses ended up back in their shops. But GMC RTS has been always ever since when growing up here going to school, and all places surly these buses has their ups and downs mechanically, but they roamed the NYC streets very well. Yes they are very more likely to be missed seeing these loud engine squeaky sound air breaks. It's believed that these buses lasted in service as long as the like old subway cars do from the 30's to the late 70's. Well anyways now that they have been retired now all of them are in the junkyard getting recked up while one or two others you can get to see at the transit museum.

Millennium had the chance to keep these buses going well into the 2020 decade, but I suspect that the lack of Low Emissions Power Train options especially when it came to competing against New Flyer and Orion during their Bus Orders and Sales success of Diesel Electric Hybrid buses and Hydrogen Powered buses during the existence of the RTS's; pretty much caused that bus to quickly get overshadowed and eventually would not be as appealing or competitive towards the upcoming New Flyer Xcelsior; especially when it came to the lack of a major exterior design update, but overall, the RTS is truly a well recognized legend .

And also they had sounding exhaust system throaty rattling when idling and throttling when new but around mid-2000s MTA decided to cut off the throaty exhaust pipe sounding rattling to reduce costs I think EPA regulations...
