  • I'm a massive fan of 90s Cartoons, so today we are taking a look into the world of Hey Arnold! The show was created by Craig Bartlett and originally ran on Nickelodeon from 1996-2006. Being one of Nickelodeons most popular cartoons at the time, the show focused on Arnold, a young boy who always does the right thing and has a very strong moral compass. Naturally, the show had an ability to teach valuable and important life lessons in almost every episode. Today, I dive into the task of ranking my top five episodes of Hey Arnold that taught us life lessons that helped shape an entire generation. Be warned, this video is purely based on my opinion. Your opinion might be different from mine, and that's absolutely okay!
Let me know what your top 5 episodes are down in the comments below!

Pigeon Man was probably one of the saddest episodes I've seen on a cartoon. Hey Arnold was an outstanding cartoon. As much as the episodes were very creative in some aspects, they still felt very real.

The one that always stuck with me is when a new girl shows up at their school and they all think shes rich and snobby because of her clothing and they absolutely torment this girl. Despite all this she always has a smile on her face until the bullying gets to be so much she runs home in tears. Then they follow her home and find out that her family is living in poverty.

Man, you really left out Helga-centric episodes on this one. Olga Comes Home where Helga changes Olga's grades out of (justified) jealousy makes a better point than Arnold Betrays Iggy because it's way more emotional, realistic and relatable. Even Helga and the Nanny, which has a similar premise as the Olga episode was more realistic. I also thought the Little Miss Perfect episode where Lila gets torn apart by the girls bullying her for no reason was worth mentioning. The Aquarium episode where they save an abused turtle has a nice message about both animal rights and age. And Helga's Makeover also spoke to a whole generation of young girls being pressured to grow up and be someone they're not.

One episode I remember about a lesson was Steely Phil. It's about Grandpa Phil wanting a rematch against Robby Fischer in Chinese Checkers. Before the tournament, he and Arnold have a conversation. Phil didn't believe he could beat Robby until Arnold told him about getting confidence and it helped him. Even though Phil got a tie against Fischer, he kept going until the end.

Honestly, I don't like Arnold Betrays Iggy, but here's how I would improve it in the hypothetical scenario that I had a time machine.
I would have the episode instead of Iggy's bunny pajama secret somehow getting out randomly, I would want the episode about a rumor that someone starts (probably Helga) that Iggy wears bunny pajamas, which ruins Iggy's reputation as he gets bullied by the other students, and Arnold, being the nice guy that he is, would try to help Iggy by disproving the rumors.
But hey, the episode came out like 27 years ago, so there's nothing I can really do. Eh, I'll live with this episode, as I'm pretty sure it's not canon to the series (like The Simpsons with 'The Principal and the Pauper').

Fun fact about the Pigen Man episode. The original ending was Pigen Man jumping off the roof, commiting suicide.

I wish everyone learned the lesson with MLMs. I've known a few who got royally screwed. I'm pretty sure some of the local fireworks stands are set up in a kind of MLM manner.

I think there were Karens in the episode when Harold gets a job at Mr. Green's Butcher Shop. Or maybe there's another word for the kind of crowd featured there

Pigeon Man was a sobering moment the first time I saw it. But Stoop Kid was just all kinds of WTFery starting with the question of HOW did this kid raise himself without CPS getting involved? But the movie where they were fighting over who owned the neighborhood legitimately had me worried for this kid's well being if the place HAD been torn down.

About the watches, I don't think it's fair to put MLMs together with pyramide schemes since at the end of the day, in MLMs you can limit your buying to only when you have customers. Whereas in pyramide schemes you're expected to buy in advance.
