Edgar Payne and Carlson are 2 classic go to books. Another one I highly recommend for seascape artists is "Paint the sea in oils using special effects by E. John Robinson"
Agree with you there. I also have one of E. John Robinson's book, I love his seascapes 😊
I took your advice ….it took a while to track down Mr. Robinson‘s book but I finally found it in a used bookstore in England ….so I took a chance and I ordered it and it arrived today ….I’m so excited and thank you for the recommendation.
@@lunadargent5292 Fantastic! I hope you enjoy it and get something out of it Luna.
I find the way you explain the colours is most helpful for me as I'm colour blind, I have painted some good paintings spoiled by my colours.
You have sparked my interest again, cheers Sam.
That's so awesome you are inspired to paint, thanks for watching my videos 😊
I know the wonderful Edgar Payne book but will check out the others. My two go-to books: 'Color & Light' by James Gurney, and 'Mastering Composition' by Ian Roberts. Both invaluable resources of learning and inspiration.
I'll definitely have to check out those books, thanks for the recommendations 😊
Shishkin is remarkable. Another favorite of mine is Peder Mørk Mønsted (19th-century Danish artist).
Peder Mørk Mønsted is one of my favourite painters, it's a shame no one has published a book of his art works.
I am a digital artist, and I wanted to study landscape paintings I am so glad that I found your channel, the way you explain things in simple way its really understandable, and Thank you for recommending these books!!
My pleasure, thanks for watching 😀
Thanks for sharing your expertise in oil painting and your go to books for oil painting.
My pleasure, thanks for watching 😊
Great advice from a great painter!
Thank you so much 😊
2:37 your Carlson book looks new- lol
Mine is all beat up- well referred too-
I have John Carlson‘s book and I absolutely love it. I have learned so much from it, I too can’t recommend it enough.
It's a great book. Thanks for watching 😊
Really helpful to have you specifically, to recommend- thank you
Happy to help, these are all great books 😊
These books are a must for beginners and seasoned painters:
Edgar Paynes- Composition
Carlson - Landscape
Helen Van Wyk - Color
Seascapes- master water - waves- etc - E. John Robinson
ALL of his books are filled with so much information on everything about painting water- and composition - color schemes-
Note: ALL of his books contain different information- (many think that his newer book is a duplicate of his older one- it’s not) a CZcamsr reported this false information-
Total of 4 books!!!
These books above will serve you well- and refer to them throughout your journey!!!
Walter Foster book on Clouds- great tips - demos- composition on clouds - color scheme- shadows
Helen Van Wyk- has many on color- each book contains different information and demos-
She also has a small handbook on everything to know about painting- (wonderful information)
E.John Robinson - also has a book on - everything to know about painting water- he covers landscapes- mountains- waterfalls etc.
Again - all of his books are best for anyone who favors - water- ocean- waves - his demos cover every aspect of ocean water- sea foam - surface waves- water etc.
Helen’s books- are best to learn about hues- what each color does when mixed etc
Also she has demos on still life’s- silver- gold - etc
Florals -
Her book on Color- is a must -
All of these books can be found at times the prices are very high- and then become low-
Master - refer back- understand and know the contents of these books above- they will serve you well-
All the books you would need ! Great choices.
Thanks for watching 😊
Thanks for the video Samuel!
My pleasure, thanks for watching 😊
Thanks for the video. I suggest that Ron Ranson's book about Edward Seago is also worthy of inclusion in any oil landscape painter's top list.
Great suggestion, I'll definitely have to check this out 😀
Great recommendations. I have all of them except the Shiskin book … need to add him to my library.
There are some beautiful images of Shishkin's work in his book, definitely recommended 😊
Thanks for informed us about these books. What about Anton Gutknecht ? are his art books available nowadays ?
I've not heard of this artist, I'll have to check it out 😊
Enjoyed this vid - thanks - I need to 'research' more - one artist I found through youtube - Isaac Levitan - wow...there are a handful that he did that just blow me away - I really would love to get somewhere in that direction - to me, he mastered the threshold of dreams and reality - I struggle so hard with veering into realism - I would love to be able to maintain a consistent 'painterly looseness' throughout the picture..it's so hard!:)
Hey Robin, thanks for the info, I'll check out Isaac Levitan. With regards to looseness in painting I begin the block-in stage with loose brushwork and then add details later on 😊
@@SamuelEarpArtist yeah do@ there's a vid on yt with about 450 paintings (learn from the masters channel)- honestly - I'm in awe of his work. Am going to make a vid I think of my fav ones - so inspiring, and his style varies so much too.
Agreed - Isaac Levitan is one of my favourite painters and essential viewing for any landscape painter. A master in every way.
thank you
Thanks for watching 😊
what about sir virgil elliott samuel you don't know him ask andrew he will talk about him he knows him
Showing your face is not what I was looking for, please be real and show the book's content and what we could learn from it.
