    It looks really good all over, as you said the only real downside is the bumpers
    Works out to be lest than 80p a game I think, fantastic value considering the names of some of the titles already included!

    0. I am Chinese and I knew some review videos will show up online sooner or later and this is one of them, I knew it because this console showed up in the Chinese market a while ago and (Chinese) people had been talking about it in the gaming community since it came out.
    1. I was about to preorder one but I ended up changing my mind, because ALL (not most, but ALL) of the gamers who received this console said that it had some serious slow-down and frame-drop issues. For those Pokemon or some RPG/strategy games, it is acceptable, but for those action games, it is literally unplayable. If you ordered this console and have it in hand, try some of the action games, e.g. Contra, Castlevania, Megaman, etc. you will understand what I am talking about in 2-3 minutes. Unless they fixed it or somehow updated the firmware, which I doubt, it will have these issues.
    2. The screen on this console IS from the Gameboy Advance Micro, yes, you heard it right, it is literally the old stock screens from some old ware house somewhere in China. If you have the GBM, you can compare them yourself. But this screen here has some strange settings that the color on this screen is a little bit too 'blue' (or say it's a little bit too 'cold'), it might have something to do with the driver. The good thing about the screen, however, is that it has a 1:1 pixel perfect aspect ratio without any stretch.
    3. The build quality is pretty good though, the d-pad and face buttons are OK but the shoulder buttons (L and R) are not very comfortable, at least for some people.
    4. Overall, I would suggest to do more research before you order. For a time, I was thinking we are finally having a Chinese console that does not suck, but apparently not.
    PS: Great video!

      Guangsi Han do you know how this compares to the bittboy? Also do you know of any better game boy emulator handheld?

    • @NIN10DOXD
      @NIN10DOXD Před 6 lety +1

      What about the GB Boy? Would you say that sucks?

    • @guangsihan
      @guangsihan Před 6 lety +1

      I don't own either of these, but I do know that the BitBoy has tons of hacked (not in a good way) and pirated nes games and you can't add/change ROMs to it. I don't know of any better game boy emulator handhelds, it just seems like each has its own problems and none of them is good enough for me.

    • @guangsihan
      @guangsihan Před 6 lety +2

      That GB Boy Colour has the biggest issue: wrong aspect ratio, but it does have a backlight screen, so does it suck? I'd say yes and no...

    • @mattsephton

    • @Angultra
      @Angultra Před 6 lety

      Agreed, same size as a GBA micro which I found too small.

    • @KRAFTWERK2K6
      @KRAFTWERK2K6 Před 6 lety +1

      the problem is you can't have size with widescreen LCDs in handhelds. If it's wide, it needs to fit the dimensions of the handheld case. So you lose screen space in the vertical areas. That's why a 4:3 or a 1:1 display would make a lot more sense. And would be a lot more authentic too.

  • @ChozoSR388
    @ChozoSR388 Před 6 lety +2

    Question: Does it have an RTC? Also, does A+B+START+SELECT work? One game I'd want to have loaded on that would be Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, and it uses that button combo to bring up the save screen.

    • @RetroDodo

    • @democracydignityhumanrights
      @democracydignityhumanrights Před 5 lety

      YouDontKnowMe yes but the settings or something have clearly been altered in some fashion. The picture quality, while not terrible, isn’t the quality of the GBM.

    • @democracydignityhumanrights
      @democracydignityhumanrights Před 5 lety

      YouDontKnowMe and I might play a game at weird angle if I’m laying in bed, or like my brother’s friends when he was in the navy, all of those guys had game boys, I remember playing Pokémon with them on the ship when I got to go on it with him, and sometimes when you are on those ships you end up in weird spots and angles playing your games, the bunks are not very big. That’s just one example with the bunks. And before that my brother was on submarines, and I’m sure it was worse there.

  • @JonThysell
    @JonThysell Před 6 lety +2

    Looks like a remodeled Dingoo (same menu, same GBA emulation issues). I loved my Dingoo until I lost it, esp. with running Dingux to get better sega emulators. My biggest complaint about Dingux was the lack of uniformity among the emulators interface (some you launched by selecting a ROM from the file browser, some by launching the emulator and using their own file picker, every one had different ways of loading options menus and/or exiting games, etc.)

    Really neat looking, but how is it possible that the Roms are bundled and that this thing can sell on Amazon in the West? The screen (according to a chinese commenter it's the GBM original) looks amazing. What about the rumored slowdown in action games? Thanks for the great video!

    I can already feel that this device is going to be as famous as Revo K101. Revo was somewhere around $60 now it's $120.

    what about pixel scaling? is it perfect scaling or you can switch between "1:1" and stretched?

      There’s just one aspect ratio unfortunately, no stretching. :/

    Buyers beware. These Retro Minis sometimes come with boards that have no MicroSD socket soldered on which leaves you with a micro SD slot that is useless (unless you solder one onto the board yourself). The list of onboard ROMs is always different too it seems. All the games are in chinese, no matter what language you set that thing to. So keep that in mind when you wanna get one of these. The thing also has no "Retro Mini" written under the display but has an all black frame. other than that everything is identical. Same menus, same box, same content, same design.

      Thanks for letting everyone know. Very good points!

      It might be a faulty batch I guess. If someone manages to solder a micro SD holder onto the board it could be used just as the regular Retro Mini versions. But I think the money is better spent with a GB Boy Colour :P
