    I don’t know. Seems like your main review is how you feel about the case. You said about a case you didn’t like "these are games I’ve never heard of, they just made them themselves, they are shit". Then on a case you DID like "these are games I’ve never heard of, they just made them themselves, that’s pretty nice I guess".

      I was just about to mention the same thing. Kind of a poor review overall, 1 game or less per device. Not very descriptive on the button feel for each device or consistent scoring or comparison. One device is hated on for homebrew games on it only and the next is praised for homebrew games only...
      Complains you cant get into the device, yet never touches on that for any other device.

There is a community behind it, offering a better OS and emulators for it. Mine is in my mailbox. I have to wait for my roommate to get home from work, however, as he has the mailbox key. • @Alias_Anybody
    @Alias_Anybody Před 6 lety +4

    Why aren't they just making something with
    a) the shape of a GBA/GB Micro/PSP
    b) a four face buttons + two shoulder buttons setup
    c) built in emulators for GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES, Master System and Mega Drive (maybe some more)
    d) without any roms to be totally legal but
    e) an SD slot supporting at least 32GB to use your own roms
    Now add solid build quality, good speakers, a headphone jack, a solid DAC and a built in rechargeable battery (or at least not too many classic ones) as well as the possibility to mess with software and hardware (for hobby hackers) and you'd have a really solid product. Why are all of these knockoffs so bad?
    Update: The last one is already pretty close.

    • @Alias_Anybody
      @Alias_Anybody Před 6 lety

      The emulators are Open Source and the components are very similar to cheap smartphones, so in theory a plastic version could be made even for 50$. I think it would actually be the low quantity driving the prices up, not high quality.

    6:00 - Retro Mini... this font and icons (especially) looks exactly like in my Dingoo A320. It's a kind of a "hacker boy" console which I use now more like an audio player :)
    Brandon, could you check - is this Retro Mini's mp3 player (i guess it has it) has a weird track order? In the standard's A320 player you can get your tracks not in an alphabetic but in a strange "timestamp" order only. It's really touches all files that you're writing on a SD card by yourself. A320 has a SD Mid-size slot BTW :D ... it's a really weird solution and i've found the adapter with big efforts.

    I got the retro, one at the end, and there is an internal stroage already on the device, you can access if you plug it in your computer while it's off, then turn the device on plugged in - windows will find the internal storage and you can copy roms direct - without the need for another SD card in the bottom.

It was buried somewhere in the lower extremities. Also enjoyed some random tower defense game. The games with the superior visuals seem to suffer from bad framerate. Especially this one fighting game which would have been decent if the frame rate weren't so choppy and slow. Bought it on sale at a Walgreens (US based corner store retail) for $15 and felt it wasn't worth it, but it did provide some entertainment for an 8 hour car ride to Branson, back and forth.

    that last one is actually a(legal) fake version of a gba clone. I think they sold the shell designs to another company who made this emulator handheld out of it, but the original revo K101+ is a full hardware GBA clone, and a lot more expensive.

  • @adamcdx
    @adamcdx Před 6 lety +8

    I think these are great for more casual oriented gamers who just want to play their old games, but the price to value I feel like could be better. A 2DS refurbished can range from $45-60 USD, has pretty decent emulation support, and also has the capabilities of playing new games. I bought one for GBA and SNES emulation and couldn't be happier. The only downside I've encountered was the d-pad. Compared to my New 3DS XL, the d-pad is really mushy and diagnal inputs are harder to do.

    • @brunocar02
      @brunocar02 Před 6 lety +2

      nah, the 2DS is nice but between the worries regarding which FW version it comes with so you dont need a flashcart to hack it and the crap dpad, might as well get a PSP go for even less money and you can emulate those same platforms (GBA isnt the best, but most games are playable) and on top of that you get PSX emulation that runs most games well.

    • @adamcdx
      @adamcdx Před 6 lety

      I would suggest a PSP, but a lot are plagued with battery issues and prices for a GO or 3000 are almost twice of a refurbished 2DS. I agree with the process of obtaining a flash cart is too much of a hassle to do something like this for most people, but the payoff is great for someone who's serious about it. For the longest time, I actually wanted a PSP 3000 or GO for emulation but could never go through with it due to price.

    • @brunocar02
      @brunocar02 Před 6 lety

      bullshit, i bought a psp go refurbished from gamestop for 50 bucks in 2015, it cant have gone up in price

    • @adamcdx
      @adamcdx Před 6 lety

      Gamestop doesn't seem to sell PSP's used/refurbished anymore and I think it's because no one is selling it to them knowing that they can get much more off a PSP than what Gamestop offers. I'm going off of general eBay prices and they are pretty crazy for an older handheld that sold decently well. If you got a PSP for that much, you got a really good deal.

      @theblackdeath8933 Před 6 lety

    I think some of these fakes are acceptable, as long as they dont use the same designs and looks to deceive buyers. I mean when you look at a good fake console, you know it is not the real thing, but they are not deceiving you to think that this is the real stuff and then stuff shit in your mouth. It's like i am a fake but i have my quality.
    I know we must support real stuff whenever we can, but for gamers from the poorer part of the world, they only option is probably RetroMini. It's good to see videos like this promoting good quality fake consoles, it's helpful to gamers who cant afford the high end consoles.

    I have a retro mini, the cheap Chinese clone and not the legit $65 one. It's definitely a solid device but it often times drops frames and you can tell you're playing on something cheap. So for games where timing and precision are important, I wouldn't play them on the retro mini. But for RPGs like Pokemon, it is a wonderful experience. And I think that's the use case most of us want it for.
