Why would you "dumb down" a native digital tape to composite video? To copy your digital tapes, you simply need to install a $10.00 firewire card into your PC and then copy the tapes from from your camcorder to the computer with NO LOSS in quality. Literally.

And what's the solution for VHS tape to digital?

@@AdamSmith-qv6no I get excellent results with the AVerMedia C725 card, which is an INTERNAL capture card that is installed into a PCIe slot inside the PC. However, if you want a simple external USB device, I like the USB-Live|2 from Hauppauge or the Corsair Elgato Video Capture device, Model 1VC104001001. I also have the ClearClick 2.0 that's shown in this video, and the capture quality is OK, but not quite as nice as the other devices I've mentioned in this reply.

Thanks for the video - but whats the quality like? I found one other review of this on youtube - but the quality of the transfer there looked quite poor - akin to a low quality dash camera - I know the source isn't great but from that vid the device seemed to added digital corruption on the right and lots of coloured banding.
Before I buy one - would you be able to show some sample recording - especially some fast moving subjects - to see if it correctly handles deinterlacing. Thanks!

not having any luck with this downloading to a thumb drive. If you follow this, read the quick start to turn things on to how you want to set it up, for instance, flash drive or sim card, stop time. volume and it may work for you, it hasn't for me, yet.

Some VHS tapes have security protection on them like some older movies that arn't available on DVD. Will this device record them to digital?

I just got the ClearClick 2.0 recorder. I’m using it to record old VHS tapes to digital. I’m having an issue though. When I try to record a tape that’s more than 2 hours in length it creates a second file and continues recording. How do I get it to record just 1 file?? Or will I just have to edit the 2 files so they are 1 in a vídeo editor program??

Whaaaaaat ??? Why would you "down-scale" digital video footage from Digital MiniDV format.... to low definition analogue ..... then record it back up to inferior 720 x 480 digital format ??? Bahahaha .... Just output the MiniDV in it's native form via firewire or equivalent straight onto a PC fool 😋 Would be a better example if this video was referring to digitizing Video 8 footage or Hi 8 footage or VHS etc etc etc
