- Built on 1920 by the Pneumatic Calliope Co. of Newark, NJ. It is a 44 key manually played affair that operates on low pressure air supplied by a Roots-Connerville Blower which is powered by a 1/2 hp. electric motor. This was a welcomed edition to the Long Island Antique Power Associations 2008 Summer Show and received great reviews.
Ok. I am 61 and i just discovered what i want to be when i grow up.
"Be still, for there is strange music"
This is stirring some neurons - I'm remembering a life I didn't even live
Same here when I hear this kind of stuff it makes me remember something I haven’t even done.
@@johnhaines124 Oh you guys have done it , just not this life time ... its the happy times that always show through from the other side, other wise no one would ever come back

Your past life
Never another day will I worry about which music will be played at my funeral.
The song is "Waitin' For The Robert E. Lee"
Thats Friggin Funnee
My great grandma has a Calliope in her house. It's in the second living room and I sometimes play it when she isn't around because she can't stand the loudness of it.
why would you do that
I was probably curious hehe. The real question was why she had one in her house in the first place.
Celosia Ganaha Priskos
The plot thickens my dears
@@Ganaha_Celosia_Priskos does she still have it? If so I would like to hear you play it
Make a video with it
The timber of a Calliope is so unique. It has a softness. I love it.
This is the most comforting thing I've ever heard, I love Calliope music.
Ladies And Gentlemen! Boys and Girls! Children Of All Ages!!! Gather Round!! And Welcome!! To the One!! And Only!! Greatest Show On Earth!! The Ringling Brothers Family Circus!!!
(I Miss Those Days)
One minute, I'm listening to rappers from the Calliope housing projects in New Orleans, the next second I end up here. Nice!!
CALLIOPE IS MY FAVORITE INSTRAMENT AND THIS IS THE BEST MUSIC EVER BUT INFACT OF THE UNIQUE SOUND IT HAS IT MAKES ME CRY AND ONE MORE THING ANYBODY HERE IN 2021.🙂🙂🙂
this man is cooler than I will ever be.

AWESOME!!!
Be still, for there is strange music 👁
I could listen to this kind of music all day
This is so adorable I wanna go to a 1920s carnival
That is one well maintained unit!
This is definitely more Carousel worthy music and I bet that if for some reason a band organ was not working, this would definitely fill in the gaps for an out of commission band organ. I wish that was the case for even some grand carousels in my area. Recorded music just isn’t the same as the calliope or the band organ itself. I wish we had this for the Greenway Carousel in Boston. So much more fun to listen to than recorded music.
Such a nice, happy sound. I love these things.
Saw this today in Freeport, NY at a Halloween Festival. Jim admitted it was out of tune a bit, but still sounded great. What an awesome piece of history!
in, what i call the superfuture,
we are all lil gumby guys and
this is what most of the music
of that world would feel like.
awesome performance. thank
you so much, OP.
I played Mario paint when I was a kid on the Super Nintendo and this reminds me of some of the music in that game lol
Yea me to
What a absolute lad
I want him to show up to my burial and play this song as they lower me into the ground.
I was just now telling my kids, calliope music is circus music because in the early 1900s you could have one wagon with a steam organ and one guy playing it and make music loud enough for an entire circus. And here you are!
Charming instrument. Nicely played.

Love this guy playing the calliope and love how he has it set up. Sounds great.
That’s so amazing. Bravo!! You’re very talented!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏿👏🏿👏🏾👏🏾👏🏽💕💕💕
the horn was a nice touch :D
ITS MAY 31 2021 AND I STILL LISTEN TO THIS CALLIOPE COMPARED TO GOING TO THE CURCIS OR THE MEMORIAL DAY BECAUSE I LOVE THE UNIQUE SOUND IT HAS BUT IF I HEAR IT TOO MUCH I MIGHT CRY. 🤗🤗😃😃😃😳😳☺️❤️❤️❤️
Alright, this goes in my "Good Time Musics" playlist.
Please...don't compare me with Anton LaVey. (I'm the one playing the Calliope here) He and I have our own styles of playing. His Satanist proclivities aside, I consider Mr. LaVey to be one of the better masters of the Calliope that are alive today. He knows his "stuff" and technically, you'd be hard pressed to find a better man for the job.
The instrument is not an organ, nor a piano. It demands a touch and a mentality that Mr. LaVey portrays very well.

Wow!!!!! Cool to see this!!
The name of the piece is "Waiting for the Robert E. Lee" done in the Key of "C".

"I'm drowning!"
No
finally a calliope on youtube that sounds good. Why are there so many that sound out of tune. I used to work on the Mississippi Queen, (R.I.P) and I don't ever recall the calliope sounding as bad as it does here on YT????
POV you just wanted to understand how a calliope sounded like cause you watch TMA
POV you remember just a few years ago when people weren't trying to put POV in front of everything.
I love it. I could listen to that all day.
I dream of having as much swag as this guy
1920s are awesome carnival music
ITS JACKIE!!!!! WOOO WOOO!!!!!

this is delightful ^-^
This is the first calliope I've ever seen with a train whistle.
Loved it. Sure wish you would post another song on this wonderful instrument.

But your lucky enough to be able to enjoy any type of music you'd want within seconds now. If you lived in the 1920s you'd really only hear this if you visited a circus, pier, or fairground.
This is the best thing ever!
If I was stuck in traffic behind this guy, I would not complain.
Waitin' For the Robert E. Lee.
They still make these and if you want one, it will run you about 12,000. That's without all the fancy self playing stuff. The song he is playing is "Waiting for the Robert E. Lee"
+Alex s. Then you add the wagon, generator, tow car, driver, it's always the details....
You can buy this one complete with tow car and generator for $25K (no driver)

+scada4321 Thats pocket change! i wish.
I know your comment is old - but an you tell me the name of the company that makes these?? Thanks.
beautiful :-)
Great song I love Candle Cove
Excellent!
Good job joe
The sound can be modified. There are lots of different sounds (or "timbers" for the same note in a church organ. The mechanical things are called "stops". I suppose the Calliope Co. patented their sound because no other organ brand has that exact sound.
Breathy oscillating flue pipe with a slight chirp on the attack.
this thing is one year older than my grandpa
is it true that you can hear calliope 3 miles away???
ruhi gul The genuine steam ones could be heard 3 miles away, quite well.
Awesome!

My husband and I named our new puppy Calliope 😊
manga12- It's not a pipe organ and "it shore don't sound like one" so why compare it to one? This is a great piece of Americana so enjoy it or take your oh-so-sensitive ears elsewhere. No one made you watch/ listen to this so why complain and compare it to something it's not even supposed to be close to in sound? Are those banjos I hear in the background?
Yeah, I know he'll never see this comment but why pick on a nice video post?
That's me playing this calliope. True, I've dented a few sensitive ears with this instrument.
They float down there, they all float.
I want one!
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was something from the trailer park boys.
Astrein! 👌
... Reminds me of whenever you enter Goldsaucer in FF7
@noper12345
Huh, I was not aware of that.
Thanks for that little piece of trivia.
what is the name of the song? Or could you provide me with information about this?
Reminds me of the opening theme from Magic Roundabout.
I think the pressure was too high, some of the notes sounded clear, while others sounded "breathy" if you know what I mean.
Probably just the recording quality, you need a pretty good Mic for something that loud, not too mention CZcams's compression
Actually I did, while trying to find videos of the grand ophiclade. same type of principal an air powered musical instrament, played by a keyboard, even if the thing plays whistles instead of pipes, also it was nicknamed the fire organ for a time, due to the steam being heated to play it.
Who said I didnot like it, I just said its hurting my ears, due to the pitch.
There are only a few dozen calliopes left in the nation if even that of the origional ones.
