    I wish I had heard some of these stories when my brother, countless cousins, and friends returned. No one seemed to want to talk about Vietnam. I am only learning of their experiences through men like this....Welcome home and thank you all for your sacrifices and service.

      A friend of mine (who was my supervisor)from work that I worked with for years never talked about it either. Then one day I decided to ask him and we had a nice conversation. I was glad I did.

    I love hearing these stories. My dad was in vietnam and told me some. I'm happy they had something good, even something small, to help them.

    Thank all of you for your service. My father was an Army engineer. That story from Tom Chalfant about the black cherries was great!

    Hey Tom just wanted to thank you for that short bit of bringing me into your world at that moment of time...your narration really drew me in... I could feel for that Fellow to open up that box and to know them "bings" well...they rotted. but loved the turning the Brew into a good thing.

    When I was stationed at Norton AFB in San Bernardino Ca. Myself and a team member by the name of Witt, had the duty one Sunday of babysitting the Alert Bird (C-141) a somewhat boring assignment. At lunch we decided to buy one of those little rubber band powered Airplanes. We were launching it off the wing of the plane. Unbeknownst to us the Base Commander was giving some friends a tour of the Base to show what a crack outfit we were. Well the next morning we got called into the 1st Sargents’s office he proceeded to chew us out up one side and down the other. Then he was going to give us our punishment he got a big grin on his face and told us to get out of there and don’t be back in his office again.

    I had this fixation about pepperoni. I had one $10 bill in US Currency that I sent to Mary in Oakland, a World Airways stewardess I knew. Weeks went by nothing. No response to my letters. Finally heard from her. Said sorry, her boyfriend ate the pepperoni! Like there was a 7-11 or grocery store nearby where I could buy it?

    I received 2 metal coffee cans taped together containing heavy, doughy Italian cookies from a girlfriend. I was given an alert to go to the field and left them under the bunk of a Captain in the hooch next to mine without any note of explanation. He ends up contacting EOD ( Explosive Ordnance Disposal) thinking one of the hooch maids tried to booby trap him.

    Anyone know, if they still do these interviews and if so, how can you get someone interviewed??

    • @flynnlivescmd
      @flynnlivescmd Před 4 lety

      A lot of vets still do. Check out Vietnam Voices by the Billings Gazette. Perhaps get in contact with that guy and see what the protocol is to locate and inquire about interviews.

    Great stories. I noticed in ALL of these videos not a single African American is interviewed. You’d think knowing an Black man has fought AND DIED in *every* single war dating back to Crispus Attucks in the revolution they would be honored like the rest of these men. As a matter of fact, black men died so disproportionately during the Vietnam war a lottery system was set up so the administration wouldn’t seem so racist. And where are the Asian and Hispanics? Did their lives count in Vietnam or any other war? You people should be ashamed...how disrespectful.
