Woody (Tom Hanks) is stolen from his home by toy dealer Al McWhiggin (Wayne Knight), leaving Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) and the rest of the gang to try to rescue him. But when Woody discovers that he's actually a valuable collectible from a once-popular television show called "Woody's Roundup" and is reunited with his horse Bullseye, Jessie the yodeling cowgirl (Joan Cusack) and his faithful sidekick, Stinky Pete the Prospector (Kelsey Grammer), he doesn't want to leave.

Oh noo.. You forgot to watch the little scenes in the ending song, like the little teaser for their next movie The Bugs Life there...
Jessie's scene, . . . Whew, . . .
Fun Fact: Less than a year before the movie's release, someone doing routine storage cleanup accidentally deleted 90% of the project's files, and the backup files weren't working either. Fortunately, the supervising tech director, Galyn Sussman, had been working on a copy at home while on maternity leave, and they were able to hook it up to the main system. You could say, a baby saved _Toy Story 2_ from becoming lost media.
I would've died! I freaked out after losing 5 files
What you leave out is that then they remade the entire film from the ground up when a cinema release was decided. So you never saw any of the version that was lost and saved.
So no, there was never a chance of this version becoming "lost media".
@@whade62000 I thought this happened after they decided that. Interesting. Although, after it was deleted, they were considering canceling the film completely.
@@whade62000 You have those backwards. The early version was being worked on without John Lasseter. They started over when John Lasseter came to the project. That incident with deleting the files was after that.
Thank goodness for babies then!
In my opinion, Toy Story 2 is better than the original film. Jessie’s introduction, the adventure to save Woody, and Woody’s dilemma of choosing immortality over his loyalty to Andy are the emotional core to this film, and that’s why I love it so much!
Note the fact the prospector said Andy will not take Woody with him in college but the third movie show us he was ready to do it
Also an introduction to Bullseye who is adorable 🥺
I'll have to say 2,3,4 are better than the 1st movie.
Me too.
@@DaniL-ph5ks me too. But, my brother loves the first 2 movies than the last 2 sequels.
The fact that Woody trained Buster better than Andy did is actually hilarious.
I think it's the same contrast with the fact, the toys live their life when we're not here
Woody has more free time xd
@@decristal48 true 🤭
My neighbor's have a dog named Buster who I walk twice a week, we've been doing this just over a year and it's the funniest thing that he listens to so many commands from me and his owners can barely get him to sit.
@@omoidashu Yeah but my dogs tend to listen to strangers' anyways even if they've never met them before. Maybe it's because more strangers give treats, or maybe it's because they are unknown and so are the consequences.
In an interview Tom Hanks said the first time he and Tim allen watched jessie's backstory they couldn't hold their tears; it was so funny the way he put it "here we are 40 years old guys crying over the sad past of this cowgirl"
Jessie’s backstory was sad 😢.
I still have my Jessie doll even though she’s old, but it doesn’t matter I love ❤️ Jessie with all my heart 💜.
Its probably one of Pixar's saddest scenes. Every time I think "how could you, Emily?? She loved you!"
To this day Jessie's song still brings tears to my eyes. Many fans theorize that Jessie's kid Emily is Andy's and Molly mom. There's evidence to support it.
I support that theory. Sure, it could've just been them reusing assets, but that's no fun! The ages line up, it's the same hat, and it makes sense for Andy to inherit his mom’s love of western toys. I wonder if Jessie ever recognized Andy’s mom as Emily if this theory’s true.
@@firefly5934 it's a strong possibility and a lot of things seem to match up to support the theory.
Sadly, Disney officially debunked the theory. But you know what I say? Unless they show evidence directly supporting otherwise, the theory is still fair game.
I've also read that Woody was a gift from Andy's late father.
Just a crazy theory by fans.
Woody in Toy Story: Buzz, YOU ARE A TOYYY!!
Buzz in Toy Story 2: Woody, YOU ARE A TOY!!
What a nice rhyming scheme...
Rip Don Rickles, Jim Varney, R Lee Ermey, Jonathan Harris, Joe Ranft, Robert Goulet, Jack Angel and Estelle Harris, may they all Rest In Peace
Mattel didn't want Barbie in the first movie because they thought it was going to flop.
After being proven very wrong, they asked Barbie to be included going forward.
I heard originally Bo Peep was supposed to be a Barbie but they couldn't use her
I think the most underrated thing about this movie is that Andy’s mom KNEW how much Woody meant to Andy so she didn’t sell Woody to Al, of course that didn’t mean anything cause Al stole him anyways!
“You never forget kids like Emily or Andy… But they forget you.”
Thank god that line flew over my head as a kid. Unfortunately as an adult with anxiety/depression that line now hits me like a ton of bricks💔🥺
And this is where Pixar *really* got the reputation of pulling our heartstrings. The last two had their moments, but Jessie's story was the beginning of many, many, MANY Pixar tears.
Fun fact: when Al says “don’t touch my mustache!” He is actually mispronouncing “you’re welcome” in Japanese
Arigato Gozaimas
9:33 "50 bucks ain't bad " 🤣 That always gets me.
"My anxiety did not need that!"
Dude, that does make me remember the first time i saw the sequel as a kid, i got so freaking nervous and worried for woody's friends cuz i thought one of them or some of them were gonna get hit by a car 😂😅
I actually had no reaction to the scene cause I was a little kid when I used to watch it so I didn’t fully comprehend what was happening.
Toy Story 2 is a worthy successor to the first film! It’s a great follow up story, has great new characters, more background lore about Woody and Buzz (with the Roundup gang and Zurg), and still has that comedic charm that the first film had. And of course, Jessie’s backstory is very sad as well.
definitely one of the best sequels ever
I love that Woody and Buzz are a duo in these movies. When one of them is in trouble or trying to help someone else the other has their back with no question.
True but there are some wild people in the internet and decided to make Woody and Buzz be like they're more then friends
I remember as a kid, my siblings and I were dachshund lovers. So we all yelled in excitement when we saw Buster for the first time!
watch your mouth or im going to spread those cheeks
The song When She Loved Me was nominated for Best Original Song Oscar losing to You'll Be In My Heart from Tarzan.
There is a theory that Jessie's owner of Emily was Andy's mom as the timeline matches and the cowboy hat worn is the same that Andy has.
When they are flashing through the tv channels you can see several Easter Eggs of Picar shorts.
You'll Be In My Heart also won against Blame Canada from the South Park movie
@@stephanniemorin I stated that in my comment in the Tarzan reaction.
I love how: because Zurg truly believes he's real (like Buzz did in part 1 and Buzz 2.0 in part 2, he is the only ine who reacts to the laser, as if he was actually hurt. Lol, what a perfect sequel.
Hahahaha yeah it was hilarious
Zurg: I am your father
Buzz: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Zurg: Actually, I'm not really your father, I'm you!
Buzz:.....
You asked about that line from Hamm the pig "theres 3.5 million cars registered in the tri-state area". Thats a shout out to the actor who voiced Hamm the pig, John Ratzenberger. Earlier in his career, he played Cliff Clavin on the TV show Cheers and his character was a "know it all" kinda guy so he always had these obscure facts and stories about semi-useless information, like the line in this movie.
2 is such a classic. 3 is another level above classic.
Now I just want a show about what happened to Toy Barn Buzz and Zurg😂👏🏻
I loved watching this movie on DVD. Although, now that I’m older, I kept waiting for Stinky Pete to say “Hello, Bart.” (Note: Kelsey Grammer voices Stinky Pete who also voiced Sideshow Bob on The Simpsons)
When Tom Hanks and Tim Allen were interviews for their thoughts on Toy Story 2, they both screened the movie at the same time and they both remarked how they were both old men crying with each other after seeing Jessie's story for the first time. Thats how powerful this film was.
Yeah it was a sad scene
The sequel to the first ever CGI animated film and it was amazing. It did exactly what a sequel should do, where it introduced us to new likable characters, while also giving us a bigger story by raising the stakes. I also thought this was the funniest out of the four films.
Fun fact: If you search 'When She Loved Me' (Jessie's backstory song) you'll see that this song is relatable to everyone for their own reasons
This one is my absolute favorite. The scoring, the sound effects, the jokes, the crossing the street scene, the cleaner fixing woody scene, Jesse's back story. It's awesome.
Fun fact: Al is voiced by the same person who voiced Tantor from Tarzan!
He was also in seinfeld
Jessie's previous owner was andy's mom. That explains why she gave her hat to andy.
Props to Andy’s mom for not selling Woody as she knows how special he is
Tim is just giving us nostalgia overload with these reactions and it never disappoints
I agree completely 😊❤
Fun fact, they made this entire movie in under 9 MONTHS!!!
Now this is crazy
The fact that Woody and Buzz hated each other in the first movie xd
And now their friendship is even stronger than every other character's 😄🙌 I love it!
It’s movie character lore, 2 characters hate each other in the first movie but in the second movie they are best friends!
Out of the Toy Story saga, Toy Story II is my favorite. I can recite most of the film word for word, I love it so much
Also 19:22 One of the most satisfying scenes in film history.
This movie kinda "invented" ASMR before it was a thing, huh? XD
Yes! Exactly! I can recite the dialogue of the whole film word for word! 😁😊😁
That’s how you know the movie is gold
I'd say the 19:22 scene is more or less the equivalent of the most satisfying punch in cinema history, in back to the future of course.
In so many respects Toy Story 2 has all the beats I hope for in a sequel. The story greatly expands on what came before, and the callbacks to the first film were awesome, especially with the scene when Buzz and the others confront Woody in the apartment with Buzz using the iconic "You! Are! A toy!" and the "You Got a Friend in Me" bit were just so great and altogether made for an incredibly emotional sequence. All around I love this film so much and it remains my favorite of the Toy Story series.
There's a theory that Emily is Andy's mom, evidenced by Andy's hat being red, like Jessie's, instead of brown.
Jessie's backstory hits me EVERY SINGLE TIME
😭😭😭😭😭
Edit: Woody was such a sweet toy to save Wheezy from the yard sale
Edit 2.0: One of my cousins saw Toy Story and sold EVERY single on of her toys for the fear of them coming to life
Woody Dream where he falls into the trash can that give me nightmares when I was kid but now it’s less scary than what I remember as a kid.
The toy cleaner is actually from another Pixar short, "Geri's Game", about an old man who plays chess against himself in the park. When he searches through the box drawers, you can briefly see chess pieces in one of them.
This sequel is very emotional. I did enjoy the new characters, awesome adventures, funny moments and it tells about Jessie's past
💗💗💗🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭
The 3rd one is the saddest :(
@@BtsArmy4eves yeah I felt the 2nd movie is more leaning towards the comedy aspect and 3rd one was more sad
Toy Story 2 was just pure perfection.
I wouldn't say "better " but each sequal just knows how to go a little further pulling on the heart strings.
12:05 STILL gives me goosebumps, learning that Woody was the “Buzz” of his time 🤠
So many good voice performances in this film, but Joan Cusack absolutely breaks my heart as Jessie, even as a fully grown man.
It's actually partially confirmed that Woody is actually a prototype And that he was owned by Andy's dad We know that this technically is canon because one of the oldest pixar animators Joe ranft told a friend of his
Them at the beginning: “This movie is so sad.”
Everyone else who knows: “Oh it gets waaay sadder later.”
Toy Story 2 is one of the best movie sequels ever made. Almost every single scene in this movie is a slam dunk.
24:03 “When Somebody Loves Me” song is my favorite. But sad for Jesse’s backstory
39:05 That’s a best ending for jazz version “You've Got a Friend in Me”
I'm glad you both enjoyed the movie!! :D
I only wish I could've seen you guys react to the Toy Story 2 bloopers as well
Oh yeah the bloopers are hilarious! I remember Wheezy getting hit by the micro, and then all the toys act as if they were actors on a failed scene XD
@@leovk5779The bloopers were the best about the early Pixar movies 😊
I really hope y'all watched the bloopers in the full length version because they are hilarious!
Yep
Pixar needs to go back and do bloopers again
Pizza Planet has been such a staple in Pixar movies for sooooo long, I feel it deserves a full film in where it's THE focal point.
I personally didn't interpret woody as being egotistical in this movie; he got to Jessy and them after feeling useless and fearing he'd be thrown away due to his injury. I feel like he was just excited to find out that he's still special to someone (even if it wasn't andy). Like he found a new purpose after feeling like he'd lost his.
Toy Story 2 is my favorite Toy Story movie 🎥. Every time I watch Jessie’s backstory it makes me feel sorry 😢 for her, the way she was abandoned in a box for years just gets me every time. I still have my Jessie doll, even though she’s old but it doesn’t matter.
Fun fact: the voice of Barbie (and all the Barbie dolls) is Jodi Benson who also did the voice of my favorite Disney Princess, Ariel from The Little Mermaid 🧜♀️.
This was my favorite as a kid. That one scene with Jesse and her "kid" Emily is so sad.... I forgot about that part.
Favorite Moments
32:06Star Wars Reference
34:30 Woody Vs Stinky Pete
39:06 Wheezy’s Song
I absolutely love Toy Story 2, such an amazing sequel that equals the first film! I love the cast, the animation improvement while I still love the first film's animation. Not to mention the soundtrack in this was so well done.
Loved the reaction Timothee!
Toy Story 2 is an amazing movie and a great sequel. It introduced great new characters (including one that had my name which I loved as a kid), a new adventure outside of Andy and who his favorite is, and showed character growth for Woody and Buzz. This movie is my favorite of the series because it is about loyalty and friendship. Also, watching it as a kid and an adult still holds amazing messages.
I saw this film three times in the cinema within a week!
Can definitely see why!
It is a perfect sequel. I don't know if I think it's better or worse than the original, but as you guys discussed, it built on everything from the first. Also, a commonly held fan theory is that Jesse's Emily is Andy's Mom. The basis of this theory is that the Cowboy hat that Andy wears is the same design as Jesse’s rather than Woody's. The idea is that this could easily have been the one item she hung on to from those days and now has passed it on to her son.
But the only problem with this theory is that Andy's Mum doesn't comment about Jessie when Andy gets her, you'd think that if she was Emily, she'd have at least something to say upon seeing Jessie again after so long.
Al is also Andy’s dad I reckon
My favorite song in the whole movie is "When Somebody Loved Me." Hearing Jessie's backstory is very tragic.
Fun fact if you get Toy Story 2 on some DVDs or VHS it will not have the current 2006 logo and instead it will have the 1995 one. But on Disney plus they removed it.
Although Toy Story 2 Had THX On DVD Or VHS
This reminds me of the Museum of Automata which used to be in York, but the collection was bought by a Japanese collector, the Japanese do have strong connections with their automata and robots, I like to think they’re in good hands in some house or museum in Japan now.
Tom Hanks is the best actor ever we all love you Tom Hanks always in the top best movies, and Woodys round up came before Woody was made
I'll always remember this movie for how badass Buzz is portrayed, whether he is Space Ranger Buzz or Andy's toy Buzz.
The old man fixing woody also appeared as the main lead in the Pixar short film Geri’s Game.
When she loved me that song still makes me Break down in tears when ever I hear it 😢
There's actually a lot of evidence to suggest Andy's mom was Jessie's original owner; I don't think there's ever been any official confirmation, but Andy having the same hat the little girl did is certainly an interesting coincidence.
It would also make sense why she wouldn't question where the toys came from. She might just see it as a sign from above, a miracle, and who are we humans, mortals to question miracles?
@@adrianrocha49 ah yes makes complete sense.
I also believe that Al Mcwiggin is Andy’s dad
There is a Buzz Lightyear 2D movie and series that the toys occasionally watch.
I'm glad Disney allowed this to be released on the big screen and not on the media.
Out of all the Toy Story movies, Toy Story 2 does the best with world building and lore. It really is the perfect sequel like Empire Strikes Back was to A New Hope.
One of those rare sequels that’s even better than the first one! My favorite in the franchise. Excited to see your reaction to 3 and 4
AFTER THIS YOU GUYS NEED TO SEE THE HALLOWEEN SPECIAL it gives Jessie an amazing arc and it's unbelievably good. never saw lightyear, it doesn't exist in my head.
Emily is DEFINITELY Andy's mum.
The hat Andy wears is a Jessie hat that Emily could have just handed down to Andy.
Popular theory that Andy is a Jr his dad who we don't see also being Andy and Woody's original owner. The mom did say Woody was "an old family toy" and on the note of Andy's mom she is Emily Jesse's owner, look at Andy's hat it's the same and it's missing from the box of stuff Emily left with Jesse in it
This movie is so sad and gives you so much anxiety but still is better than the 1st
Fun fact: Squeaky's singing voice was done by Robert Goulet, a beloved entertainer of his time :)
I've loved this movie my whole life, but I've only just realized how epic the climax was.
Toy Story 2 been out since 1999. Stinky Pete was the villain and Jessie Kool cowgirl
12:28 Okay I Admit, The Stuff Al Collected From Woody's Roundup Is Pretty Cool. 🤠🐎🌵
17:44 you can see Flik and Heimlich on the branch before Buzz chops it dow. It’s also a funny clip of it at the end credits of the movie too.
19:21 most already know but that’s Geri from Pixar’s famous short Geri’s Game where he plays a game of chess against himself. There’s even a short moment you can see his chess board looking for stuff.
I remember watching this so many times to look at Easter eggs in this movie and a bunch of others
24:35 This scene always made me cry, even when I was 7 or 8 years old. Time goes so fast, between when kids turn to teens, then adults, along with what they choose to do with that time.
Also, the TV show with Woody, people move on, and so does the next generation who’s exposed to the newest big thing. Even if your in the limelight, you will be forgotten in a generation, when the next kids aren’t exposed to the past.
This film is substantially better than the first one, in all aspects. Amazing story, amazing animation, really strong characters and motivations.
Here's a completely random question: has anyone ever noticed that the aliens are like the precursor to the Minions from the Despicable Me movies? Think about it. Like the minions, they have a signature color and uniform, they have different number of eyes, they live for servitude to their master and they're found by the thousands! But unlike the minions, even with the short amount of screen time they've had in the Toy Story movies, they actually have a purpose other than being just the comic reliefs, they are smart, competent and less bumbling and annoying.
Gotta love how much the animation evolves over the course of each movie.
I knew I'd be crying if I clicked this...I clicked anyway. Impossible not to! This movie is one of my favorites of all time. It has it all. 💙
This was my favorite Toy Story movie as a kid and probably still is although it’s tied with the third movie on being my favorite movie.
When I was a young child I didn't feel any emotions when witnessing Jessie's tragic backstory. But now that I'm an adult it's like a dam burst in my freaking eyes. 😭
Fun fact: as told by CZcamsr ItsTotallyCody, the universe doesn't need the Prospector. The Prospector (Stinky Pete) belongs in a museum.
i cried rewatching this. this is truly my most by far favorite franchise in an animated movie soo beautiful.
I remember having a Woody, Buzz, Jesse, Bullseye, Mr potato head, and I even had the old prospector. They are now probably in my moms attic.
One of my favorite parts of the movie was the credits and how they made the bloopers I think that’s what made me think toys could be real as a child
I still stand by my belief that the nightmare scene in this movie is the most demonic thing that has ever come out of a children's Disney film. 😱
Disney has gone much darker than that
K1lling Bambi's mom was worst tbh
@@artsysabs Yeah: Black Cauldron, Fantasia's Bald Mountain scene and opening Scene of Hunchback to name few, but darkest in Pixar films? Maybe?
@@thejamppa To be fair, I haven’t actually seen any of those movies so in my adult life it can be easier to get used to them; but as a kid that whole dream sequence traumatised me for years and I developed a habit of trying to stay away from movies I hadn’t seen before (I was quite paranoid back then). Of course this isn’t a problem for me now, having embraced the horror genre and watching this movie the whole way through to fully appreciate it, but I still believe that that particular scene had a huge impact on my life, for better or worse.
I actually had an Emperor Zurg toy when I was younger! Holy crap, this unlocked a core memory. Watching these again after all these years really makes me wish I would have taken better care of my toys. I had so many good ones, I wonder what they're up to nowadays. lol
I did too!
As a kid I was infatuated with G.I. Joe toys, I had all of them. My Mom worked at a restaurant and would bring the little cocktail "swords" home and I'd have them all be knights.
I think that might be the only happy memory from childhood...
I still like to believe that Emily is actually Andy’s mom.
This one was my favorite out of the 4. And if no one understood that the creators added the sexual innuendo at 38:33 as a kid you’re not alone
The funny thing about it is they have their own bloopers it’s hilarious 🤣🤣
Man, Timothee and Clariss are great alone but man, when they do reaction together... its magical
Disney has a long history of getting pretty "dark" or real even in kid's subjects... see Bambi. They will get right into hellish landscapes and themes to make a point... Fantasia, Pinocchio , etc.
This one made me go and apologize to my toys for the way I treated them (specially my Barbies for cutting their hair)… get your tissues ready for the next one, extra ones! I loooove your guys are watching this amazing franchise!
