Who do you think these young kids are? Status Quo! This is a recording from 1970 by the group that would later become legendary as the 'Frantic Four.' They look so young and full of energy that it's hard to believe that two members of the Frantic Four, Alan Lancaster and Rick Parfitt, have passed away. Now, they are presenting you with about 12 minutes of a feast: watching John Coghlan's extraordinary drumming skills and passion. John is 77 years old today and retired. He just spends his time at home with his wife, Gill. However with new musicians filling in for the ones we've lost, Francis Rossi and Andy Bown are still carrying on the spirit of Status Quo and continue to put on very successful concerts. 'Is it really me' and 'Gotto go home' are actually based on the same musical structure. The same music is played slowly with different lyrics, and when it speeds up, the lyrics change to match the tempo. I think it's incredibly beautiful! I always get emotional and cry when watching, especially in the first part. I don't know why. Maybe it's because of the emotion when it's played slowly or perhaps because I can't quite come to terms with the loss of Parfitt and Lancaster, who knows?
John Coghlan is such a powerhouse of a drummer...just try and keep the beat for two minutes let alone 10 plus without missing a beat...remarkable playing by the mighty Quo...doing just what it says on the tin.....
Brilliant performance of the young band. They were still quite psychedelic back then. Years later it was "4500 times" that turned to their stage marathon tune.
Audiences were spoiled those years by numerous brilliant bands. I wish I had traveled back in time to experience that era of classic rock bands at their prime
Found early gig dates for Quo and found one back in 1971 at a Rugby Club in Cornwall. They were there on 16 July, we got there the day after on holiday. Couldn't believe it went I saw their name written in chalk for the previous night! They would have been performing this....!!
@@ColtraneTaylor Yeah, I thought Krautrock was German. Kraut is a German word recorded in English from 1918 onwards as an ethnic slur for a German, particularly a German soldier during World War I and World War II.
Now imagine, from 'Ma Kelly's' up to 'Live' each of their record has been recorded the same way: Fucking LIVE! The 7" 'Wild side of life' was actually the first release which was recorded using different tracks. Every record before was the whole equipment into the studio, set all up, rehearse and record it LIVE. This has been repeated once later with 'Rock 'til you drop' where they stood on a stage and recorded the whole stuff with the Fleetwood mobile.
at 11:55 he lose one stick, takes another spare one which breaks at 12:01 and then in the end he throws all away. This performance is a 10 out of 10, unbelievable. Rossi drops the plectrum at 7:52 or so picked it up at 7:55 and at 9:38 the ordeance is beginning to move !

If you have it loud enough, you can actually anoi the neighbours 2 or 3 streets away. It must a been incredible loud to hear status quo in the 70s. Went to a concert some years ago on a stage in the water. They where loud, good and rocking. Like all their stuff. Best band.
I went to see the Quo at 16 with my dad at Demontfort Hall, Leicester in 1977, rock in all over the world tour, it was so loud you couldn't see straight, the stage looked blurred !!.
Wow, I could listen to this all night,, the real quo, I feel blessed to have been growing up in the early 70's following the Quo, I hope I hear the Quo in heaven one day , proud to be a member of the Quo army, GOLDEN.

Coghlan an absolute metronome
Recorded LIVE in Sweden 1970.
Written by their Bass player ALAN LANCASTER
One of the best songs ever created on the full earth

Not to downplay his skills.
@@ColtraneTaylor I know what you mean. He was not looking comfortable for sure.

A great ALAN LANCASTER CLASSIC ROCK SONG.
A masterpiece! Boogie, underground, psychedelic, and krautrock.
Why is this krautrock?
@@ColtraneTaylor
Yeah, I thought Krautrock was German.

One of their best songs and album.
Cool tune. Love it!
RIP Rick and Alan

I love it when SPUD throws his sticks in the air after playing for 12' 19"

What is the complete Session?
Shame Rossi's guitar is inaudible for a long time.
So damn sick
They sound better than 10 years later...so sad.
Drugs and money. Unfortunately.
I don't know anyone in the audience could sit still through this....must have been under threat of death.
I guess they were not allowed or overwhelmed.
SPUD LOOKS NACARD.
The English Grand Funk.
where mr rossi?
Guy in the middle with green guitar
He there
Why use 3 chords when 1 will do?
is this audience dead or zombies
they were probably overwhelmed with the sound, or not allowed to move.
Vocals never were Quo's strength. Unfortunately they haven't implemented a role for permanent vocalist
