    The blackhawk rds hood opens all of the way if you drag the front sight on it as you come out of the holster. This concept forces you to immediately have your weapon pointed in the area of the threat as soon as you come out of the holster. Modern drawing techniques teach you to do this. The holster forces you to do this if you want the hood to open all of the way. I prefer it but to each their own!

    I appreciate the detailed comparison however the fact that you advocate for the 3rd lock on the safariland tells me you've never had to draw your gun in a time sensitive manner or been involved in an OIS. Seconds matter.

    I’ve been on the job for 30 yrs. I’ve carried lots of Safariland and Blackhawk holsters. But the Alien Gear is by far hands down the best holster I’ve ever carried. Super fast natural draw. Been carrying for 2 yrs now. Just wish they made it for something other than Glock. I use Olights on my Glock 19X and don’t have hang up problems like you are getting.

      10 years here and I agree the rapid force duty holster is awesome. I despise the Safariland and needing to go in opposite directions and I see experienced shooters get hung up on the draw with it all the time… or worse- they reduce it down to a level 2.

    I'm sure u are aware of this. But if not... the safarilans QLS reduces the holsters retention in that it can be ripped off the belt easier. If u are worried about gun grabs research this. Also. Different types of QLS parts are specifically made to break so operators don't get hung up fast roping. Make sure u have the proper parts if u were not aware of this.

    I run the alien gear shoulder holster. It’s been fantastic for the past 2 years. Wear it literally every day and the only wear that has bothered me has been the wear down where the belt clips are. There’s an elastic type band that connects the belt clips to the leather bands and on one side it’s frayed a bit but hasn’t come apart (and if it did it could be an easy fix). Just from everyday use really. I haven’t exactly been “easy” on this harness either.
    All in all alien gear has stood up for me so far.

  • @sonar357

    The problem with the Safariland ALS (IMHO) is that I have to break my thumb position, and thus a firm grip, to release the firearm and then reposition my thumb back to where it needs to be to either get a good one hand or two hand grip and/or flip a safety. Whereas with just the SLS hood, I can drive the hoop forward and out of the way and the webbing of my hand is now firmly up in the beavertail of the grip, with my thumb in the right spot to flip any safety even as I'm coming out of the holster. The multi-movement (however miniscule) of the thumb to remove the firearm just adds to the difficulty of getting your firearm out in a panic. Same for the Alien Gear. Yes, you have a good argument with your experience of people trying to get your firearm. It's a matter of personal preference. To me, it's a matter of 'acceptable trade-off': being able to get your weapon out in a high-stress, high adrenaline emergency vs preventing any gun grabs/stripping.

  • @rodneyswanson9839
    @rodneyswanson9839 Před měsícem +1

    “Retention” & “Release” are TWO TOTALLY different things…. My draw is faster from Blackhawk holsters!!! Just like you train for the extra step with the Safariland, you can get the rds hood to lock forward during the draw. Your SL “bias” shows, but all in all a good video!

  • @dudelesslethal6910

    I had hard time holstering my P320 with TLR1-HL the problem i had was the bottom of the TLR would rub entering the holster causing the sights to catch the locking system. Once I figured that out i switched to SureFire X300U-B and it cleared the holster with no rubbing on weapon light and no sight catch. Smooth as butter.

  • @CWebs

    All them levels of retention locks on the Holsters, to have a quick detach system (QLS) on the holsters that can be defeated in seconds…
    That’s worth 2 good jobs. 👍🏻👍🏻

    • @dsk357
      @dsk357  Před 2 lety +1

      I see what you’re implying, but I’ve never had anyone try to rip my entire holster off. I’ve had people try to pull my gun out of the holster so that’s my larger concern. If someone wants to try to rip the holster off while the gun is still locked in there, I can cope with that. I don’t find the QLS to be “easily defeatable in seconds,” but clearly that’s not the setup for you and that’s fine.

    I am not sure why you skipped over the other great aspects of the Aliengear holster. The ability to switch between sizes of the releases, which are included with purchase. Also the ability to use the light bearing holster with or without a light attached to the pistol.
    Definitely geared with a large bias towards safariland which is stated in the video. I used to be a huge Blackhawk fan but have switched to Alien Gear and haven't looked back since.
    Future videos should have a similar approach to each product. Instead of the love fest with one and bashing others. I am still trying to find out what is wrong with Safariland. I know very well the issues with the other two in your opinion.

    As you have pointed out, holsters will react differently when it is off the belt. Does the Alien Gear have that same problem reholstering when it’s properly on the belt? It would be interesting to see a draw stroke video of all three holsters. I have the Alien Gear for a P320 equipped with red dot and TLR-1 HL and have not encountered the issues you are having. Very smooth holstering. Safariland just came out with a redesigned RDS holster which IMO has a significant design flaw in their RDS hood. They also need to improve on the ALS spring as it has a tendency to break due to its undersized diameter. Blackhawk can easily remedy their hood issues by placing it in front of the strap vs behind the strap in the open position.

Brought it to my range and after using it for about 40 minutes it began clicking in firmly. Crisp hold, great retention. The draw from this holster is superior. Fell in love with it instantly. This is absolutely my favorite holster I own and will only go with the Aliengear duty holsters from now on considering this holster allows you to use multiple flashlights and optics. Is it possible that the retention arrow indicator on your holster is actually too tight? If the mechanism has an arrow on it indicating how much tension you are using, in the video it shows your tension is at the top of the arrow (to me that suggests maximum amount). It may make it easier to holster your weapon with the alien gear if the tension indicator shows it's at the bottom of the arrrow, meaning it has room higher tension in the arrow. I hope this makes sense as I do not own any of these holsters but I thought it might help. Thanks for the video

One thing that you are not hitting on is that both manufacturers, when you are pulling on the pistol grip the als will not release. Tlr7, will any of these holsters fit it? Got a ppq and cant find one

    Question: I've been looking at safariland holsters but on their website I can't find one that accommodates the TLR2. If I order the holster for the m&p 2.0 with the tlr 1, will it fit the tlr 2?

    • @dsk357
      @dsk357  Před rokem

      No, a holster for a TLR -1 does NOT necessarily accommodate the TLR-2. Many which accommodate the 2 also take the 1, but not the other way around.

      @@dsk357 ok, thank you! Do you know of any duty holsters that work for the M&P 2.0 and the TLR 2? I've been looking for a long time and cannot find one. I'm about to just buy a safariland and a TLR 1 and call it a day. I was just hoping for the laser capability.

    I dunno, I have zero problem with my alien gear one, my duty pistol is glock45 with pl350, it’s been perfect for 3.5 months now. Love it!

      @dsk357  Před 2 lety

      Hey there. The alien gear fits either the PL-2 Valkyrie or the PL mini-2 Valkyrie. I believe those are the only Olights it fits, according to their website.

      I run a Glock 19x with an Olight Baldr S. I ordered a glock 19 model Rapid Force. It's universal for the lights, just have the right gun model ✅
      Update: 12/2/21. So my Olight Baldr S fits in the holster, however the draw is not smooth. I had to switch over to a Streamlight TLR-7. I'd advise to choose a weaponlight they have listed on the site.

    Gotta ask though, In this video the guy doesn't seem to have any issues holstering his gun: czcams.com/video/TOZEXdlDpeo/video.html
    Did you contact AlienGear about the tolerance issue? If you did, would you please share the answer?
