    Its so broken that you have to vote for national parties in EU elections. Nobody knows the names of the EU level parties let alone their policy stances. If we voted directly for EU parties people might be more engaged with EU politics

Many people on the internet are also from outside EU, some insights on EU might seem nice to them but actually breakdown of parties before upcoming election might not interest them at all. A first mistake they make is to use the word "socialism".
    Although in predominantly southern nations such as Spain, Portugal and Greece this has a positive connotation, in northern countries it has a negative connotation. It is no coincidence that the Swiss Socialist Party is called that in French, but changes its name to "Social Democrat" in German.

    • @felisenpai9625
      @felisenpai9625 Před měsícem +8

      I agree with some of your points, people in USA, post commie Europe and Northern Europe have a bad connotation with word "Socialism", but it stems from misunderstanding, socialism can be a basis of a fair and equal democracy, while communism usually falls into a trap of totalitarian/autocrat government. I still think they should use it. If you ask young people these days on how they feel about socialism most will give you a positive response. Some words can be reclaimed, from insults or fearmongering, to a positive and unifying meaning. Look for a word Queer for example, a really strong insult in the 20th century, around 1980s it started changing due to hard work of LGBTQ people and now is one of the most important words to describe this community.

    • @slavianalbanovich9025
      @slavianalbanovich9025 Před měsícem +8

      @@felisenpai9625 I personally make it more of an economics issue:
      Socialism means greater control of the economy by the state (even if governed democratically). Northern countries are historically much more inclined towards the free market, even if with high welfare and taxes (like Scandinavian countries), while Mediterranean countries show a greater propensity to seek state work and to distrust capitalism.

    • @leonardschoyen
      @leonardschoyen Před měsícem +1

      @@slavianalbanovich9025Scandinavian countries have an enormous tax burden and state machines. Calling them anything other than the manifestation of socialist societies is madness. The word socialism also does not have a negative connotation up here.
      Farmers are not allowed to sell their milk to whomever they choose, nor can they dictate price. The same is true to a certain degree with eggs, meat, power, etc.

    • @Emanon...
      @Emanon... Před měsícem +10

      I'm a member of the Socialist Party in Denmark. And we're not even the ones most to the left in parliament.
      Socialism is fundamental to the Nordic model, and even the more liberalist/conservative parties can't deny that we're essentially a "social democratic" state.
      Socialism has become a bad word because of the increased Americanism of our politics. And it's cancer to our societies.

    • @slavianalbanovich9025
      @slavianalbanovich9025 Před měsícem +3

      @@Emanon... Thank you very much for this starting point:
      The word socialism is certainly very broad, it is used to describe nations like Northern Korea or Cuba and is also used for some center-left parties in the West.
      Originally it was almost synonymous with communist, however the prevailing meaning is that of an economy in which companies do not have an owner and are co-managed by the workers themselves. Therefore there is no owner of a factory, the workers own the factory and divide the profits equally or in proportion to their qualification; but the free market system (albeit very regulated) still exists; while in communism it is the state that manages the economy.
      In the Nordic countries it doesn't seem to me that companies are owned by workers, it is a capitalist system with heavy taxation and a consequent Welfare State.

      i also wouldn't be surprised if NGO's and other organisations that make big money because of asylum seekers are against less of them.
      those NGO's ferrying them from North Africa to Europe would lose all their "moral high ground" and donors if they wouldn't be able to act as a taxi service anymore.
      and after the asylum seekers have arrived they need to be fed, need language classes, they have the right to an attorney to help them with the application etc.
      all those things require someone to do them, and in return those people get payed.
      so there's a lot of (taxpayers) money going around in the "asylum business".

      @@janchi_stephanchi ideally yes.
      but you could make the case that asylum seekers have to go through the "third country" to arrive at that embassy. and during those travels depending on the country it could be unsafe.
      also the embassies don't nearly have enough space to house thousands of asylum seekers on their grounds.
      so European countries probably would make deals with those "host countries". so the country X does all the housing and caring for the asylum seekers. and the EU pays those countries for those services. and reviews the asylum applications.
      but the political left fears that the conditions under those types of deals would be worse than the conditions in asylum centers in Europe.
      personally i think we should go to a system where people are only allowed to apply for asylum in a country close to their country of origin. to prevent them from making the types of journeys they do now. and to prevent them from taken advantage of by smugglers/traffickers.
      and someone showing up at an European border would be deported immediately.
      at first this approach sound harsh.
      but you need ironclad rules so everyone knows what the rules and punishments for breaking them are.
      and it prevents all those people drowning and all the horrors they might have to endure while trying to reach Europe.
      it also would have a lot more support from the citizens, because citizens would know that the people coming to Europe would have made it through the application process and are here legal.
      so at first it might be harsh, but in the long run:
      - Europe wins, we don't have to deal with all the illegal immigration we have now. and everything that comes with it.
      - the host countries win, because they get money from Europe. and they might even attract more immigrants themselves, which could help them.
      - the immigrants win, because they don't have to make dangerous journeys anymore. and they will know exactly what is expected of them.

    • @tomorrowneverdies567

    • @ChristiaanHW
      @ChristiaanHW Před měsícem +2

      @@tomorrowneverdies567 yes, but i think that if we don't have the people already walking in our streets, we would "organically" become more strict about who we accept and who not.
      especially because most asylum seekers are better of in a country close to there country of origin.
      (close to) same culture, close by so when things calm down they could easily return home, most likely they would speak a common tongue, so all around easier to integrate and more fair to everyone involved.
      now we kinda accept them because there's no better way. but if they are still somewhere else it's easier to tell that that they would have a better chance at live at the place they already are.
      so we would only have to accept the asylum seekers that really have no future in/around the country they come from.
      (because of having the "wrong" sexual orientation or religion, for the area they come from)
      and other immigrants would only be allowed if they can really add something to the nation the want to move to. just like we already do with immigrants from the USA or Australia.
      part of these changes would come naturally when it become easier to deny and remove the people that don't make it trough the application process.
      but of course we also have to toughen our immigration/asylum system/laws.

      @@Dalex1910 The policies, salary control, regulation overreach, etc. If you squint really hard, you can even draw parallels between the green strategy and the soviet policy to have some other states suffer immeasurably for the comfort of others. We had all that 30 years ago, it was stable, it worked, it was effective and it was hell on earth. Never again.

      Denmark, Sweden, Iceland all have the social democratic model, but are very wealthy, and have higher economic growth that liberal countries such as the UK.
      So it is not only one factor that determines economic growth I'm afraid.

      @@tomorrowneverdies567 it's an endlessly disproved equivalency comparing Nordic economies with anywhere else in the world. Socialist parties advocate strict regulations and capital controls to achieve their goals, which is not the case with Nordic economies. Taxes are distributed across all citizens, not the "ultra wealthy" as they are lying here. If they are honest and tell everybody "we're gonna tax you 60-70%" you will see how that goes. There is also a significant cultural component. The Nordics have "The law of Jante", which I absolutely love, but try and tell a medetiranian European to live modestly and not boast, or a French they need to sacrifice their luxuries to accommodate the, let's say Romanians or Slovacs.
      The silent parts in the video that "they don't specify how" is for you to fill in the blank with hopes and your own gullibility. They know exactly how. We've seen it in Eastern Europe and we keep telling you - tar and feather those snake oil salesmen for your own good.
      One last final note - the party from my country - Bulgaria. They are not pro-EU, they are so deep under Russian influence, you wouldn't even believe it. They vote and advocate for policies like that to destroy the EU from within. Don't let those Trojan horses in boys and girls. The place with free cheese is called a trap.

    Too much social, too much of a political take rather than a pragmatic and realistic one on energy and economy. A no for me
