I cannot LIVE without the YER, mainly because I'm stupid and can't quickly disguise after every kill, but like, I've wiped out entire front lines with the YER, where if I was using any other knife I would've gotten destroyed. Also, I love backstabbing unaware engineers and just destroying their life. And if I was using any other knife I would've been murdered by the sentry. This is why the YER is the best knife ever and is better than stock and better than the big earner.
I kinda disagree, spy’s greatest weaknesses is that he tends to die after every kill, when playing with the big earner I’ve found myself surviving for way longer than I usually do, with the speed boost and guaranteed cloak after every kill you can pop out as quickly as you popped in

You forget that cloaking gives damage resistance nowadays, and the resistance starts the instant you right click. You can survive a single direct pipe or rocket while maintaining the speed boost.
The weakest clock, the weakest knife and the weakest pistol together make a loadout so extremely good and unpredictable that it may even be used in competitive... If competitive had 24 players and not 12
One of my favorite combos with this weapon is stock invis watch and l'etranger. This combo gives you absurdly long cloak time and a speed boost, letting you get a kill, invis, and dash practically across the map to guarantee an escape or to pop up somewhere the enemies aren't expecting you to be to snag another backstab.
Not my favorite watch, but the dead ringer is really good with the big earner because it somewhat negates the downside of the big earner whilst gaining cloak on kills, which you can’t get from ammo boxes with the dr. Edit: he does actually go over that in the video, and I believe I have contributed nothing to this reply section.😊
Big earner is actually really good because the speed boost can let you get two or three kills before you die instead of trading 1 for 1 into the med or sniper.
Kind of a bad take, I think most people agree that the YER is a lot worse. It's definitely not the best weapon for spy; the health penalty makes him die in one hit from a ton of different stuff, which ends up making the already inconsistent class less consistent

Eh, I'm not a spy main but as a 'big earner main' when I do spy, I feel like the -hp downside is a bit overstated in this video, at least from our perspective. I definitely understand the idea and don't want to base an argument just on 'git gud', but the situations where the hp difference is what lets you live are almost always something to be avoided like the plague regardless, and when they're necessary the issue isn't that you're using the BE over stock, it's that the Kunai is the only thing that would have worked. Before you get the stab, you're ideally either going to be invisible(which gives resistance enough to avoid the 1-shot regardless), or disguised mostly out of enemy awareness. If you're in a situation where you're being spychecked at max ramp-up by a soldier with good aim, you're probably extremely dead regardless of any knife. And after you get the stab, with enough awareness of nearby threats and decision making you can almost always juke your way out of the worst responses. The downside is heavily mitigated by effective gamesense, and the upsides only become more and more impactful as you master the movement&cloak management. That's not to say that it's the best knife or anything, just that if anything I'd put it as a kunai-like sidegrade instead of 'just use the kunai'. The kunai is focusing on **guaranteed** survival mid-chainstab making it probably objectively better in big teamfights or for making clutch plays on the cart, but the BE's **hyper nyoomies** make it potentially better in general disruption behind enemy lines and in small-mid sizes skirmishes where the enemies are gonna be spread apart. /rant Good video though and yeah people should definitely talk about it more, although IMO to appreciate it as evidence of TF2's balance more than because it needs changes.

I've been using all these "non meta" or whatever they're called weapons for years (like the big earner and sharpened volcano fragment and stuff) and had no idea there was a stigma around them being shit. Lowkey just sitting here watching these and getting embarrassed about my playstyle XD

I remember the first chainstab that i've ever did was with this knife circling around your enemys while stabbing all of them is a really good chainstab stategy with the big earner.
I think people mostly use it the wrong way- They try to go for chainstabs, but given the fact that it gives you cloak back, I believe it's meant to be a pick-and-escape tool.
This is my opinion, stock for picks, big earner for chain stabs, kunai for kill streak. It all depends on the player and personally getting 3 kills in quick succession is way more rewarding than a pick or a 20 kill streak. It's a get in and get out knife and it pairs well with the lé tranger and invise watch because it allows you to stab, run (or die), reposition, and repeat. It also allows for some stabs that wouldn't be possible with out the speed boost.
I have so much nostalgia for the big earner. I remember getting chain stabs with it and having the time of my life. The big earner dead ringer and letranger was the only real combo i found on accident and is the reason i still hop into tf2 every now and then.
I use it just because my skill level is at the point of: they found me out I’m dead. So the lower health kinda doesn’t matter for me I guess. I’m sure when my gamer sense gets better I will return to default

Wait it’s bad!? It’s my favorite knife by far, since I definitely love to avoid death through method acting, not just abusing the dead ringer. I’m also bad at chain stabbing, as well as cloak management, which is why I don’t use the eternal reward. That and it just sucks, I like disguising. I always considered the health debuff unimportant if you do your job right. If I’m taking damage, it doesn’t matter what my max health is, I’m dead.
@@ravolianchovi7795 you cant just kill one newbie and go chainstab entire team. Well yes, there are some spies that can so that, but they likely can do it with a big earner too. And yes kunai is high ceiling knife, because you become more vulnerable to literally everything . And kunai is 100% is not a direct upgrade to the stock, gameplay with those knifes is different. On stock knife you can be a gun spy, trickstaber or both, equally using your gun and knife. With the kunai you can’t play gun spy as effective as stock, you need to kill enemy with kunai to get your overheal. Stock is more versatile and easy to use, kunai is more for an aggressive playstyle and harder to use.

i use the big earner as my go-to knife because back when i started playing i said "oo a cool knife" and that got me started on spy (not a spy main btw) so it's always my comfort knife despite of being not as good as the rest
As someone who has gotten this knife along with stock to Hale’s own, I disagree that it doesn’t have situations where it’s particularly good. There are so many situations that I wouldn’t have been able to do without the speed boost, whether it be running away or getting an easier and quicker kill.
One reason that this weapon is used in a Competitive setting like Highlander is possibly only useful on one mode, KOTH. KOTH especially something like Product or Cascade is a tight map and since the enemy is mostly right in front of them, Soldier, Scout & Demoman, your weaknesses don’t really have time to worry about some random invisible Frenchman sneaking around behind ya, and when he gets that stab when no one knows you are coming, you can basically kill the entire combo without them knowing. ITS FUNNNNNN!!!
This video and this channel in general deserve much more support, really enjoyed this video. I personally like to use the Big Earner on Payload games on defense since many people like to stick together in the cart and when you get the first stab thr speed boost helps you catch up with the other enemies

I feel like having the big earner give you cloak on hit, and not kill. Might be good. So when you do fuck up from a butter knife, you can try to escape. But that only works with dead ringer really
Holy moly! The quality of this video is so good! It has to be one of the highest quality tf2 videos I have ever seen. And I agree with most things stated. The only thing I would maybe disagree with is how little time u spent discussing it's use with the invis watch. I often find that when I use the invisible watch in conjunction with the big earner, I can really confuse and distract the enemy. I go behind them with invisibility, kill one of them in a group and instantly go invisible and quickly rush around, until I turn visible again and kill another one and then repeat because of the cloak regain. This way I can really wreak chaos in the enemy team. Although I do agree that it makes you very vulnerable. I usually die after around 4 to 5 kills, but it is worth it because I distracted them from the objective!
Well the kunai can get u to 210hp which for comparison is more health than a soldier so u can tank more hits so I think their around equal but hey thats just my opinion
I find the big earner is useful for dealing with engineers if you want to take them down before the sentry. Stab the engineer and run to the sentry and sap it before it can shoot you. Or you can strafe out of its line of fire if it's ready pointed at you. Assuming your behind the enemy team you can also retreat back to where you came by immediatly cloaking and turning around and backpedaling or backpedaling while returning fire with your revolver.
The issue with Spy's balance stems from his core gameplay loop: Deceive players, then kill them instantly, destroy the support building, and distract from the front lines. Tweaking his revolvers, and you end up with a way stronger sniper, such as with the Diamond Back and the Ambassador pre-Jungle. Tweaking his escape options, and you end up with the old Dead Ringer which allowed Spy to survive instant death attacks. Tweaking his ability to destroy buildings has not really been tried yet, because any variation on destruction ultimately changes the behavior of the interaction. Ultimately, if we wish to "balance" Spy, then each weapon needs to tilt the scales one way or the other, while not being combined with other weapons to generate an effect far greater than the whole, such as the old Spy item set. Say we wish to fix the Enforcer. One option I thought of is a critical hit after one second of disguise with the damage penalty this causes that iconic 102 damage. This pushes Spy to focus more on staying disguised, and being patient which rewards usage with the Cloak and Dagger. However, others may view this as unbalanced because gaining critical hits for doing what your class does is seen as unfair.
While the invis watch does take longer to go invisible, the resistances do kick in before you actually decloak. You are obviously still seen while cloaking though, while the Dead Ringer still has more resistances and its more convincing if you feign because of the big earner.
after playing with every set of weapons (besides the diamondback because its broken and dumb) I settled on stock watch, big earner, le 'tranger, mostly because of that last point. it's just the most fun. I dont vary from that set much anymore though and probably should lol. that said I can still topscore / get pushes to happen with this set pretty well and often anyway
I tend to use the big earner and dead-ringer as a dodge build with swan-song from payday 2. If I get shot I will pull out my revolver and fight back before I die where I use the dead ringer. The dodge comes into effect when the enemy team comes after me for stabbing their medic.
This knife is the perfect knife for mid-level spies. It's health penalty is too punishing for new spies and its rewards too limiting for great spies but it's just right for average spies that want to learn how to become great spies. With how many people never breach the 'Great Spy' ceiling though, I'm surprised you don't see the Big Earner more often.
in 10x the big earner is great at punishing enemies trying to push the cart by themselves, and can reliably do it while keeping control over the access to the cart as well, (in 10x, remember) I normally pair it with the stock watch as it compliments the big earners speed boost with instant cloak abilities, and helps punish the cart.
They say the stock Invis Watch is great for getting in and not so great for getting out, while the Dead Ringer makes it hard to get in and easy to get out. This in mind, I find the Big Earner the perfect complement to the stock watch. You can slip right through enemy lines, stab some unsuspecting back, and easily make it back out with the speed boost and cloak bonus. And with the stock watch tanking damage isn't as important because your best shot at survival is not getting spotted in the first place. In my opinion these two items make for the perfect stealth assasin Spy. And of course such a backstab-happy loadout is perfectly wrapped up with the Diamondback. It's easy to obtain crits thanks to the other two items, and with so little hp you need a gun that can finish off enemies fast should your getaway go awry. So that's why my loadout of choice is The Diamondback, The Big Earner, The Invis Watch, and of course The Sapper.
I managed to kill an entire wave of red team with this thing as they all pushed through an alleyway by staying invisible for the right moment. Its truly something special for those chain stab moments.
well high quality video and well expressed, HOWEVER that loadout is extremely annoying to fight against, but i mean top scores and grinding stranges am i right guys (i admit it, killstreaks and multi kills is fun af)
It's better with the cloak and dagger than you may think. One of the most annoying things about the cloak and dagger is getting around the map to where you need to go. Being a stop and go spy lets the cloak and dagger actually get you were you need to go in less than two to three business days to pick just the right moment to decloak. But, the DR is way better. I just think the CD is better than stock with the big earner. The main downside is that if you don't plan where you're trying to go before you move, the speed boost can drain your cloak stupidly fast and you will be stuck without cloak and can get 1 shot by almost every class in the game. But the combination of those two weapons makes for a unique breed of spy capable of jumping between planes of reality and really confusing enemies who don't comprehend how you can just stay cloaked indefinitely and be also potentially anywhere on the map(with limitations)
Considering the fact that you'll probably die after getting a backstab anyway, the -25 hp penalty doesn't really matter too much imo. I consider it to be almost a direct upgrade
My philosophy is that, have you ever been hit by a pipe and not ended up dying soon after? If you’re going to die anyway, might as well get a speedboost and cloak gain.
The only two knives I ever use with stock cloak are Stock and Big Earner. I never have issues with Cloak so the cloak bonus is totally negligible for me, but It's a nice situational buff.
If I had a nickel for every time a knife increased spy's post-backstab survivability but decreased his max hp, I'd have 2 nickels, which is not much but that's interesting that it is more than one.

Honestly, I get a lot of harassment from some of my more "tryhard" teammates. Maybe it has something to do with my go-to spy loadout being the invis watch, l'etranger, and big earner, none of witch are meta. I dunno, the work well together. Stock: Pairs well with the Big Earner, as if I need some quick cloak I can get a pick and either go for more stabs or run away. Also helps on maps with low ammo packs. And the l'etranger is useful because that 33% cloak is way more than enough to get me the heck out of dodge. Big Earner: Hint already talked about that in this video. L'etranger: My go-to spy gun. Does less damage, but gives more cloak. Thing is, people underestimate just how much heath 45 damage is. That's way more than enough to kill a light class in 3 shots. And I just love the extra cloak, I can't even tell you how many jams that little bit extra got me out of.
I’m absolutely awful at spy mainly because I’m new at it (despite having nearly 350 hours on the game) but I like the big earner because it’s just so much fun chaining kills and just barely getting away with the speed boost. It’s an adrenaline rush
In my opinion, Spies die, not because the low health, but because they put themselves in a the bad situation to get a backstab. Using Kunai gives you health, but after a backstab, you are mostly surrounded by enemies who are targeting you. The Kunai health helps you survive, but you need to get more backstab--usually by trickstab--to remain alive in that situation, which does not always work. The Big Earner, on the other hand, provide you a speed boost and a cloak(for invis watch) to ESCAPE the bad situation and survive. The speed boost is reliable since the enemies have a harder time following you, while the trickstabbing with Kunai is less consistent. Still, if you're skilled enough to leave the bad situation with Kunai, then go for it.
I think they should make it like a sort of eyelander knife. Like, when you first start, you have regular spy speed and only 100 health. But with every backstab, your max health and speed increase until you have about 175 health and you move faster than scouts (while not disguised or while in cloak, of course). As a downside, it should have a cooldown between backstabs, of about 20 seconds.
So what I'm hearing is that my drug as Spy will be BE with cloak and dagger, and then that gun that gives cries on backwards (forgot the name) because that kind of sub-optimal tomfoolery is right up my alley
I actually got the Diamondback with DX:HR, and I hadn't been playing TF2 for ages. My main weapon in my first playthrough (aside from melee) was an explosive Diamondback, and while TF2's version might be overpowered, loading it up with crits feels _exactly_ like modding the thing for explosive rounds in DX. pls no nerf
Honestly if the big earner had a faster atk.speed it could define it's role as a weapon used for chainstabs but I could see how it could be abused so maybe a damage penalty of something like 10% damage penalty to make it not work for butter knifing.
If I could do ANYTHING, I’d change the health nerf from 100 to 110. Seems like a minuscule change, but it still means that you’re easier to kill, but won’t fall to a ton of bullshit. Gives the knife a little edge. That or the speed/cloak the knife gives on kill is increased.
In the end, this weapon is more of an escape plan than the actual Escape Plan

I remember the first chainstab that i've ever did was with this knife circling around your enemys while stabbing all of them is a really good chainstab stategy with the big earner.
I think people mostly use it the wrong way- They try to go for chainstabs, but given the fact that it gives you cloak back, I believe it's meant to be a pick-and-escape tool.

This is my opinion, stock for picks, big earner for chain stabs, kunai for kill streak. It all depends on the player and personally getting 3 kills in quick succession is way more rewarding than a pick or a 20 kill streak. It's a get in and get out knife and it pairs well with the lé tranger and invise watch because it allows you to stab, run (or die), reposition, and repeat. It also allows for some stabs that wouldn't be possible with out the speed boost.
I enjoy using the big earner because:
1. Chain Stabs
2. Running away to recloak and watch the enemy team flounder from the loss of their teammates.
I have so much nostalgia for the big earner. I remember getting chain stabs with it and having the time of my life. The big earner dead ringer and letranger was the only real combo i found on accident and is the reason i still hop into tf2 every now and then.
I use it just because my skill level is at the point of: they found me out I’m dead. So the lower health kinda doesn’t matter for me I guess. I’m sure when my gamer sense gets better I will return to default

Wait it’s bad!? It’s my favorite knife by far, since I definitely love to avoid death through method acting, not just abusing the dead ringer. I’m also bad at chain stabbing, as well as cloak management, which is why I don’t use the eternal reward. That and it just sucks, I like disguising. I always considered the health debuff unimportant if you do your job right. If I’m taking damage, it doesn’t matter what my max health is, I’m dead.

@@ravolianchovi7795 you cant just kill one newbie and go chainstab entire team. Well yes, there are some spies that can so that, but they likely can do it with a big earner too. And yes kunai is high ceiling knife, because you become more vulnerable to literally everything . And kunai is 100% is not a direct upgrade to the stock, gameplay with those knifes is different. On stock knife you can be a gun spy, trickstaber or both, equally using your gun and knife. With the kunai you can’t play gun spy as effective as stock, you need to kill enemy with kunai to get your overheal. Stock is more versatile and easy to use, kunai is more for an aggressive playstyle and harder to use.

I never said it had a low skill ceiling, only that most of the challenge is the first stab. the rest is basically just more aggressive stock knife gameplay. i use the big earner as my go-to knife because back when i started playing i said "oo a cool knife" and that got me started on spy (not a spy main btw) so it's always my comfort knife despite of being not as good as the rest
As someone who has gotten this knife along with stock to Hale’s own, I disagree that it doesn’t have situations where it’s particularly good. There are so many situations that I wouldn’t have been able to do without the speed boost, whether it be running away or getting an easier and quicker kill.

One reason that this weapon is used in a Competitive setting like Highlander is possibly only useful on one mode, KOTH.
KOTH especially something like Product or Cascade is a tight map and since the enemy is mostly right in front of them, Soldier, Scout & Demoman, your weaknesses don’t really have time to worry about some random invisible Frenchman sneaking around behind ya, and when he gets that stab when no one knows you are coming, you can basically kill the entire combo without them knowing.

I personally like to use the Big Earner on Payload games on defense since many people like to stick together in the cart and when you get the first stab thr speed boost helps you catch up with the other enemies

I feel like having the big earner give you cloak on hit, and not kill. Might be good. So when you do fuck up from a butter knife, you can try to escape. But that only works with dead ringer really
Holy moly! The quality of this video is so good! It has to be one of the highest quality tf2 videos I have ever seen. And I agree with most things stated. The only thing I would maybe disagree with is how little time u spent discussing it's use with the invis watch. I often find that when I use the invisible watch in conjunction with the big earner, I can really confuse and distract the enemy. I go behind them with invisibility, kill one of them in a group and instantly go invisible and quickly rush around, until I turn visible again and kill another one and then repeat because of the cloak regain. This way I can really wreak chaos in the enemy team. Although I do agree that it makes you very vulnerable. I usually die after around 4 to 5 kills, but it is worth it because I distracted them from the objective!

I think it's a better kunai. 100 health is a major upside to 70, and the speed boost can help you get to a dispenser, medic, or health pack.
Well the kunai can get u to 210hp which for comparison is more health than a soldier so u can tank more hits so I think their around equal but hey thats just my opinion
I find the big earner is useful for dealing with engineers if you want to take them down before the sentry. Stab the engineer and run to the sentry and sap it before it can shoot you. Or you can strafe out of its line of fire if it's ready pointed at you. Assuming your behind the enemy team you can also retreat back to where you came by immediatly
cloaking and turning around and backpedaling or backpedaling while returning fire with your revolver.
The last video I saw about this knife, it was "Abuse the nerf" of the dead ringer from Mr.Paladin.
The issue with Spy's balance stems from his core gameplay loop: Deceive players, then kill them instantly, destroy the support building, and distract from the front lines.
Tweaking his revolvers, and you end up with a way stronger sniper, such as with the Diamond Back and the Ambassador pre-Jungle.
Tweaking his escape options, and you end up with the old Dead Ringer which allowed Spy to survive instant death attacks.
Tweaking his ability to destroy buildings has not really been tried yet, because any variation on destruction ultimately changes the behavior of the interaction.
Ultimately, if we wish to "balance" Spy, then each weapon needs to tilt the scales one way or the other, while not being combined with other weapons to generate an effect far greater than the whole, such as the old Spy item set.
Say we wish to fix the Enforcer. One option I thought of is a critical hit after one second of disguise with the damage penalty this causes that iconic 102 damage. This pushes Spy to focus more on staying disguised, and being patient which rewards usage with the Cloak and Dagger. However, others may view this as unbalanced because gaining critical hits for doing what your class does is seen as unfair.

While the invis watch does take longer to go invisible, the resistances do kick in before you actually decloak. You are obviously still seen while cloaking though, while the Dead Ringer still has more resistances and its more convincing if you feign because of the big earner.
I would argue the Your Eternal Reward is worse than the Big Earner.
after playing with every set of weapons (besides the diamondback because its broken and dumb) I settled on stock watch, big earner, le 'tranger, mostly because of that last point. it's just the most fun. I dont vary from that set much anymore though and probably should lol. that said I can still topscore / get pushes to happen with this set pretty well and often anyway
The best thing about the Big Earner is that I got a specialized killstreak crate from an MVM drop and I can't just let it go to waste.
I tend to use the big earner and dead-ringer as a dodge build with swan-song from payday 2. If I get shot I will pull out my revolver and fight back before I die where I use the dead ringer. The dodge comes into effect when the enemy team comes after me for stabbing their medic.
This knife is the perfect knife for mid-level spies. It's health penalty is too punishing for new spies and its rewards too limiting for great spies but it's just right for average spies that want to learn how to become great spies. With how many people never breach the 'Great Spy' ceiling though, I'm surprised you don't see the Big Earner more often.
in 10x the big earner is great at punishing enemies trying to push the cart by themselves, and can reliably do it while keeping control over the access to the cart as well, (in 10x, remember) I normally pair it with the stock watch as it compliments the big earners speed boost with instant cloak abilities, and helps punish the cart.

They say the stock Invis Watch is great for getting in and not so great for getting out, while the Dead Ringer makes it hard to get in and easy to get out. This in mind, I find the Big Earner the perfect complement to the stock watch. You can slip right through enemy lines, stab some unsuspecting back, and easily make it back out with the speed boost and cloak bonus. And with the stock watch tanking damage isn't as important because your best shot at survival is not getting spotted in the first place. In my opinion these two items make for the perfect stealth assasin Spy. And of course such a backstab-happy loadout is perfectly wrapped up with the Diamondback. It's easy to obtain crits thanks to the other two items, and with so little hp you need a gun that can finish off enemies fast should your getaway go awry. So that's why my loadout of choice is The Diamondback, The Big Earner, The Invis Watch, and of course The Sapper.
I managed to kill an entire wave of red team with this thing as they all pushed through an alleyway by staying invisible for the right moment. Its truly something special for those chain stab moments.

I recently did half a team wipe 3 times today with this and I thought Legion had been replaced by Spy
well high quality video and well expressed, HOWEVER that loadout is extremely annoying to fight against, but i mean top scores and grinding stranges am i right guys (i admit it, killstreaks and multi kills is fun af)
It's better with the cloak and dagger than you may think. One of the most annoying things about the cloak and dagger is getting around the map to where you need to go. Being a stop and go spy lets the cloak and dagger actually get you were you need to go in less than two to three business days to pick just the right moment to decloak. But, the DR is way better. I just think the CD is better than stock with the big earner.
The main downside is that if you don't plan where you're trying to go before you move, the speed boost can drain your cloak stupidly fast and you will be stuck without cloak and can get 1 shot by almost every class in the game. But the combination of those two weapons makes for a unique breed of spy capable of jumping between planes of reality and really confusing enemies who don't comprehend how you can just stay cloaked indefinitely and be also potentially anywhere on the map(with limitations)

My philosophy is that, have you ever been hit by a pipe and not ended up dying soon after? If you’re going to die anyway, might as well get a speedboost and cloak gain.
The only two knives I ever use with stock cloak are Stock and Big Earner. I never have issues with Cloak so the cloak bonus is totally negligible for me, but It's a nice situational buff.

Honestly, I get a lot of harassment from some of my more "tryhard" teammates.
Maybe it has something to do with my go-to spy loadout being the invis watch, l'etranger, and big earner, none of witch are meta. I dunno, the work well together.
Stock:
Pairs well with the Big Earner, as if I need some quick cloak I can get a pick and either go for more stabs or run away. Also helps on maps with low ammo packs. And the l'etranger is useful because that 33% cloak is way more than enough to get me the heck out of dodge.

L'etranger: My go-to spy gun. Does less damage, but gives more cloak. Thing is, people underestimate just how much heath 45 damage is. That's way more than enough to kill a light class in 3 shots. And I just love the extra cloak, I can't even tell you how many jams that little bit extra got me out of.
I’m absolutely awful at spy mainly because I’m new at it (despite having nearly 350 hours on the game) but I like the big earner because it’s just so much fun chaining kills and just barely getting away with the speed boost. It’s an adrenaline rush

In my opinion, Spies die, not because the low health, but because they put themselves in a the bad situation to get a backstab. Using Kunai gives you health, but after a backstab, you are mostly surrounded by enemies who are targeting you. The Kunai health helps you survive, but you need to get more backstab--usually by trickstab--to remain alive in that situation, which does not always work. The Big Earner, on the other hand, provide you a speed boost and a cloak(for invis watch) to ESCAPE the bad situation and survive. The speed boost is reliable since the enemies have a harder time following you, while the trickstabbing with Kunai is less consistent.
Still, if you're skilled enough to leave the bad situation with Kunai, then go for it.

I think they should make it like a sort of eyelander knife. Like, when you first start, you have regular spy speed and only 100 health. But with every backstab, your max health and speed increase until you have about 175 health and you move faster than scouts (while not disguised or while in cloak, of course). As a downside, it should have a cooldown between backstabs, of about 20 seconds.

I actually got the Diamondback with DX:HR, and I hadn't been playing TF2 for ages. My main weapon in my first playthrough (aside from melee) was an explosive Diamondback, and while TF2's version might be overpowered, loading it up with crits feels _exactly_ like modding the thing for explosive rounds in DX. pls no nerf
Honestly if the big earner had a faster atk.speed it could define it's role as a weapon used for chainstabs but I could see how it could be abused so maybe a damage penalty of something like 10% damage penalty to make it not work for butter knifing.
If I could do ANYTHING, I’d change the health nerf from 100 to 110.
Seems like a minuscule change, but it still means that you’re easier to kill, but won’t fall to a ton of bullshit. Gives the knife a little edge. That or the speed/cloak the knife gives on kill is increased.
