.we need to MAKE it work, rather than taking it for granted ( figure you and I would agree on that).
Problem is that voting or choosing not to do so in a given situation has NOTHING to do with one’s RIGHT to
      vote.
Example: there will be tens of thousands of Republicans not voting this year because they will not vote for Trump but (understandably) cannot bring themselves to vote for Biden. In Ohio, that could mean being purged (by Republicans!).

@@sawtooth808 people here have argued that it should be a holiday. But the power that be, just want to make it harder, find your own time off from work to go vote, make it harder by eliminating polling stations, making the lines longer. Some states have passed stupid laws by making it illegal to even pass out water. They want to eliminate mail in voting. I clean houses for a living, I have several elderly customers, if it wasn’t for mail in voting they wouldn’t get to vote. These are people who can’t stand in line for hours, some don’t even drive anymore. They have canes, walkers and other devices that make it even harder to get around. I haven’t seen a polling station yet that makes it easier for these people to vote. They say it’s all to prevent cheating but yet these people would not cheat, they know the integrity of voting and just want to participate. They try to make it sound like it’s so easy to get an I.D, ya right, do you think these people would have a birth certificate ready at hand when they’re 80 plus years old, when they gave up driving years ago. Trump argues you should need I.D to vote because you need I.D to buy a loaf of bread these days. No you don’t need an I.D to buy bread, how ridiculous. My state changed our driver’s license law. I had a hard time getting a driver’s license, I was going to have to show my marriage license to show my legal name change because obviously it wasn’t the same as on my birth certificate. I would have had to have my marriage license sent to me from a different state or go to the court house where I got married. I am divorced but my divorce papers do not show my maiden name because I kept my married name. There was an exception on the bottom of the paper of the list of requirements they wanted me to fulfill that if I had already had a drivers license in my last name, I did not have to go through all that. I pointed this out to them, reading it back word for word for them. They still wanted me to bring in my divorce papers which made no sense because none of them had my maiden name but fine whatever, ( I think they just wanted to be snoopy) if it took me days to get a driver’s license, mainly because I’m a woman and at my age would probably have a different last name then my maiden name, how hard is it going to be for other women to get an I.D to vote? They tried to give me the run around and I’ve had a driver’s license in this state for decades.

One huge thing that makes people miss elections is the death of local news. People just don’t know what day primaries are happening. I went to an election here at my small town in Arkansas because I heard another town was having one. It turned out to be a Republican primary but the only reason they gave me for not allowing me to vote was that I wasn’t qualified. Not because of anything specific, I just wasn’t qualified. I asked if I’d been purged and needed to register again and was told no, I was still on the rolls. I went down to the county office to find out why. That implies there was a Democrat primary but I don’t have any idea when it happened.
There is a newspaper in Arkansas but it’s only online. I just discovered that this week.

I don't think they understand what the consequences of trying it could be like, or what the reaction of the American public might be like. It was a matter of public record that 45 lost the 2020 election .. then lost every single court case challenging the election results. All were tossed out for lack of evidence. And now the whole nation has seen for itself that 45 is a convicted felon. It's not going to go well for his flying monkeys if they try again.

In Australia voting isn't a privilege or a right, it is a responsibility. Voting is compulsory and state politicians have no say on who votes and who doesn't. We have an Electoral Commission who register voters count votes and to a large extent decide the boundaries of electorates. In the USA you are still in the dark ages, and by the way electorally and you need a new construction it does not cope with today's world. The constitution will one day bring your country ( or should I say group of countries) down

I might also add ex Prime Minister and Governor Generals do not keep the title and other than an office and a few other privileges they are treated as ordinary citizens. I find it hard to believe that a President is treated like royalty and still so after they finish their term. These people may as well be called Your Majesty. Bit weird when you fought a law to get rid of monarchy. By the way we still struggle with our relationship with British monarchy.
