- Celtic 1 - Rangers 2 (23rd August 1980)
Tommy Burns opens the scoring for the home-side a few minutes into the second half, Davie Cooper then comes on as a substitute and performs his usual magic earning Rangers a vital free-kick just outside the box. The free-kick is then powered into the wall by Cooper before falling to Jim Betts feet behind the wall, Bett calmly slots the ball into the back of the net in front of the joyous Rangers fans and gets the comeback started. Rangers keep the pressure on celtic and earn a throw in up near the celtic box in the dying stages of the game. Willie Johnston then makes a fool out of Davie Provan as he bounces the ball of his head before throwing the perfect ball into the box where Alex Miller sends a half volley into the top corner in the last minute of the game. Rangers won the game 2-1 and scored both the goals in front of the Rangers fans that day.

I tell you what, I am a Celtic fan, and boy do I miss the old Rangers End. Look at the size of it!! Giant full covered roof to make the sound better. Jam packed every old firm. What a noise it made, what an atmosphere it helped create..
Great comment there ..im a Gers fan and loved being in among the madness of the old Gers end at Parkhead . It was a shame when our allocation was cut and we got pushed over to the side when Parkhead was rebuilt in 96 .Canny believe its no away fans at all now . Both sets of fans deserve to be allocated the full traditional away end of each stadium ..the way it used to be 👍🔴⚪️🔵
@@mazyrun09 they were good days. Old firm matches ARE the fans!! 🙌🫡
The fog of stoor that got flung up by a goal at the rangers end was always impressive
Oops thought we were talking about old hampden
Know exactly what you mean, we always stood in the middle of the Celtic end looking straight at it, hate to say but it when they sung Derry's walls it was impressive and intimidating, been in that end a few times and it was massive.
Always great to see Sandy Jardine not forgotten big chap
Great video memories, Super goal from Alex Miller in the last minute 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
I was there, watching it all over again still sends the shivers down me, always remember a bloke next to me kept saying we will win 2-1 " trust me" he said.
Kept singing in ground for 30 mins after whistle.
Good old days 😌
Davie Provo gets an assist there for leaving his troops short in the middle, Rangers end was magnificent.
Well done Provan, guy you're meant to be marking bangs in the winner. 😁😁😁😁.
u hav to thank Provan for setting up that GOAL wat a Peach WATP
A wonderful watch, thanks for getting it on here.
I was young and daft then as I was in the yahoo end with 2 mates who followed that mob. What a memory and I couldn’t even celebrate our goals 😁. Thanks for putting this great memory up mate
🤣 you’re mental to do that! Especially back then, just a few months before there was all the trouble at the 1980 scottish cup final
I was also at the 1980 final but in with my own kind this time. Sadly different result
Was there, superb.!!
I was there that day not far from the jungle in the rangers end.
That whole terracing just explodes when Bett equalises.
I was there that day as a fresh faced youthful 20 year old laddie. Absolutely marvellous!
Was behind that goal in that amazing crowd. Davie Provo acting like the prick we all know he was. Great pick out from wee Bud to spot Miller. 🔴⚪️🔵
Remember that game is vividly. August 1980. It took Rangers 9 years to win again at Parkhead 😂.
I was there :)
Crazy that Colin and Tom McAdam played against each other in an old firm game
Davie Cooper and Jim Bett brilliant +both from Hamilton saw them both up close in the ash parks and grass playing field in Hillhouse in fact played against Jim Bett a few times
Superb cooper simply the best of all time
Absolutely. I saw Rangers for the first time in 1978 when they won the Treble under Jock Wallace. I was 14 and Davie Cooper became my hero. I'm nearly 60 now and Cooper is still the most skillful player I've seen in the blue shirt. It's just sad that he passed away aged 39. But legends never die.
You’ve just got another subscriber mate 👍
Was at that game and believe this was the first time Rangers had won in the league at Parkhead for some years? Wasn't the best performance by Celtic and that last minute goal was a punch to the gut !
Come on rangers 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Any win against Celtic is good ♥️🤍💙🇬🇧
I love that jersey, i would love to have one. It would be so retro. The one today is sorta a throwback to this era but the modern jerseys are never as nice. You never see any of these old strips i guess it was the age before commercialism took off big time and you couldn't just go buy one.
I still have the jersey the new one looks like, it was the first one with McEwan's lager after the CR Smith jersey, mid 80's.
This retro Gers top is in JDs
was there that day, as soon as the baw left Alex Millar's foot knew it was in - was right behind the the goal. Remember our winning songs that day 'When I was young and had no sense 🎵🎵🎵 great memories. R.I.P Alex Miller.
Alex Miller is still living...
Get it round ye Provan 😁
Had many a happy and unhappy day in that Rangers end. Ticket allocation was amazing back then.
Insane atmosphere there’s nothing comes close to these games back then
This was the last rangers oldco beat Celtic until 1989. 9 years without winning at paradise. What a record that is.
What ye like 🙄 on the Rangers sites again. It’s all about the Rangers 🇬🇧🏴
Like you record in Europe recently
Dont tell lies , get yer facts right fanny bhoy 🤫
What a prick 🇬🇧
Was there brings back a few memories 😊
That was my first time Seeing Rangers play there, I was 12 years old, I remember walking up those stairs and into the Rangers end every scarf was held up fans singing I was born under a Union Jack, The atmosphere was indescribable
sounds amazing i wish i could’ve experienced an old firm before the 2000s 🇬🇧
@@GersVids1872 I experienced a few late 70's and 80's. All terracing @ Parkhead, Ibrox and Hampden. Along with the Manchester United away support of that era under Tommy Doc's Red Army I've seen nothing like it since. I had no idea that my life was at risk every time I got the train into Glasgow for a big game. Naively I thought someone was managing the numbers to make sure we were all safe. I was in crushes at least half a dozen times. Luck not judgement another Hillsborough didn't happen, but having said that I will never forget the noise, the dust, and the passion! Today's football is like a silent movie in comparison!!
Wish we had someone who could throw the ball in the box now 😊 👏
I was at the game.👍
Was at that game with my pals from Whitehill and remember just getting ready to leave when Bud bounced the ball off DPs head &Miller hammered the winner & my pal got his ribs all squashed against the big wood and concrete pillar things you sat & leaned on ,was it not 1st time we beat them in new Premier league at Parkhead
What was the away ticket allocation back then? Must be around 20,000. I know it was the Old Celtic Park but it is sad there is no away support nowadays at Old firm games.
Cracking goal from Miller playing for the Oldco before they died in 2012. Oldco went on to lose the title to Celtic (Champions again Ole Ole) so Provan got a winners medal that season. Teehee! I met Alex Miller a number of times - good fella! Real football man.
Big jock knew
@@Jamie-kv9eg Two Jocks knew. Teehee! Juanin Munro only lived one year. Who've you bought this transfer window? Teehee!
@@gerrycoyle9151 First of all whit is the deal wae the mad teehee patter? makes ye sound like a freak. Secondly you’re hitting out wae the most stereotypical Celtic patter i’ve ever read. Juanin Munro🤦♂️and I bet you listen to Liv it up🤣 yeah it’s not quite 55 but youse need to try everything to make that title seem bigger than what it actually was.
@@Jamie-kv9eg Teehee!
@Correct by default Teehee! Dead for sure. Still have the 2012 Daily Rangers that proves it. If yous never died you could have sued them and won easily. Sorry, but your club is dead. But the good news is there's another club playing at the old ground, and you can go and watch them instead. Teehee!
My first Old Firm game was 1966, at Parkhead.
Celtic Park was divided along the halfway line.
Standing in the 'Jungle' with only a single row of police men separating the away fans from the home fans.
TERRIFIC ATMOSPHERE!
Celtic 3 Rangers 1
Never knew they got half the Jungle.
Coventry/Rangers loyal
McGrain running round like a headless chicken
Wee Bud ...the ridicule at the the throw in ...then the real ridicule....the throw to Alec to produce a world class goal ....the winner with seconds to go .🇬🇧
Bud taking the piss out of Provan
Are these teams in Falkirk?
What year is this from?
1980
LIMBS!!!
I was there, was in Celtic end at jungle for Tommy burns goal, my dad liked to move about so was under the pylon other side of Celtic end for the Alex miller goal,,had some view of it, was an absolute belter, 👏🫡
