Tropical Aquarium Sump System & Pipework

- So the koi pond is pretty much shut down for the season but I need to keep myself busy! So I've got myself a 50 gallon aquarium to work on! In this episode I'm setting up the filtration which will be an aquarium sump inside the cabinet.

Should of watched to the end!! 😆 By the way to clean up the tank you could use Citric Acid. That will clean it up nicely. I clean all my wavemakers and pumps and skimmer etc in it. Ive got a video on using it if your interested in watching 😊
Cheers dude, yeah I kinda figured out the sump in the end 👌😅 my first sump so still figuring it out. Had a marine tank the past 3 years running on a cannister and now going tropical on a sump 🤣🤣🤣 I seem to get it to work though 👍 will check out your videos for sure, I've just subbed. Good to see you Matt, hope you are all good. Looking forward to seeing what you create with your tank and if you can teach me anything new. You are having co2 which I have never had so that's all good. My tank is low tech but in February I put in a deep substrate of about 4 inches ( 1 inch soil 2 to 3 inch small gravel.) best success in plant health and very minimal nitrate, if any.. I will have to upload a quick video of it for you to see, as not ever put this tank on CZcams. Look forward to your next one buddy.
Thanks Les, yeah I've never used co2 in the past so it's new to me too. Having done some research it seems to be a great addition to a planted aquarium. You do have to be careful though and some fish species can be sensitive to it. Would love to see your tank buddy! 👍
Oh right, you are taking the plunge into co2. @@koicentralofficial I've only watched videos on it myself. I would of thought as long as you have a solenoid and start off low with it, then there's hopefully not too much to go wrong. , I've never had it because my wife is scared rigid of the thought of a pressurised canister in the house, especially with our disabled special needs son . I'm really looking forward to seeing how you get on with this.
Yeah a couple of friends have had co2 set ups for a while and their tanks are amazing. Like you say start low and go from there. Also important to have a co2 monitor in the tank to keep an eye on it 👍
Hey mate, that final section in the sump is for the return pump. Thats the only section where the water level will rise and fall. The float valve will control the top off water and gravity feed the final section. There is a sliding divider that goes up and down between the 3rd and 4th chamber that will adjust the water height of the sump.
Its like a cube of 4 sections.

@koicentralofficial yeah, no worries. The sump system is so much more versatile than a cannister, but you've done well with the marine tank on one.

I've noticed in the pond world there seems to a lot more support from other pond youtubers with things like the Mugs, etc, but hardly any of that in the Reefing youtubers.

No worries. I think there's more of a social side to koi and ponds due to koi shows and events that go on throughout the year, so people tend to meet up more often, I don't think there's much of that in the reefing world. Yeah, really looking forward to next year, It will be great to be able to raise koi from fry and try and get some decent fish from it.

Personally I prefer them to cannisters and hang on the back filters. More room for more filtration 👌👍
