    As a South African I know about 3/4 of zero about league. We don't really get exposed to it here, it's not very popular. That being said Ponga is something amazing! Only a few clips but looks like his skill set is pretty varied and those steps bamboozle the opposition! Wow, what a beast.
    I've been a fan of Kolbe for years, he is such a nugget. Tough as nails, rarely misses a tackle, safe under the high ball, quick, elusive, reads the game well and very importantly, humble. Complete rugby player packed into a pocket sized lead ball Hehe. One of my favourite skills that he alone seems to possess is his ability to use the momentum of the trailing arm of a potential tackler to swing him back onto the same line he was running. He is back up to full speed in 2 or so steps and effectively steps through the player. Really messes with secondary defenders who think he is going to change his line. Best evidenced by the try shown from RWC 2019 final. There are tons more examples but that's the best one in this video.
    Less hate across codes folks, more love for two fantastic players!

      Hardly expert if you don't factor in the guaranteed gap between defender & ball carrier in league at each restart, fewer and slower men on the pitch, and the fact Cheslin keeps the ball in play if caught. How is Pongo's step better when he's not creating the gaps as Kolbe does.

      @@lmarislmarislmaris4271 that's nonsense. Look at the try cheslin scored against England. He's running against fat forwards. This never happens in league because players stay in their defensive position. You don't get props defending out wide where space is. You can see in every kalyn clip he's stepping someone who plays his position and is fast. Cheslin is running against fat forwards out wide.

While being taller does have big advantages with stiff arms, etc. I Noticed Kalyn can run through defenders and still make space.. you give Kolbe any type of space he’s scoring.. WE ALL KNOW THIS. Different players..ponga is a player maker who can finish...kolbe is and out and finisher and his the best at just that finishing....ponga special in that if he were to play union, he could easily play anywhere from 10 to 15...brilliant vision,ability to see and put others in space as well as finish himself,distribution game top notch too...both great players in there own right,id love to see ponga play union

      Happens all the time in League with how many kicks there are. Teams constantly grubber the ball into the try zone to try get extra tackles. His job is basically to get to the tryline so his team keep the ball. Which is really hard to do. Remember he can't kick it or put it down like you can in union. Big difference

    Kalyan Ponga has a much bigger steps and is much bigger but kolbe can do more steps in a short amount of time because of his light weight and size

    4:03 High tackles allowed in league?

    • @kyman3843
      @kyman3843 Před 4 lety +2

      Yes, tackles are more lenient. Like old school rugby union. Still cant do the obvious headhigh or shoulder charge

    • @solo6810
      @solo6810 Před 4 lety

      Thats around the shoulder mate. High tackle in league is aiming at the neck or head. KP got his hand on the shoulder and if it slides up over the head, thats allowed.
