- Reaction To Spede Show - I Need Beer (Finnish Comedy)
This is my reaction to Spede Show - I Need Beer
In this video I react to classic Finnish comedy television show Spede Show
Original Video - • I Need Beer
That episode was especially made for some international competition, so it was in English. Normally all Spede Shows were in Finnish.
I was 18 and went to the Casino in Helsinki, sat down at the roulette table and looked to my right and there was an older man with red pants and a red sports jacket. It was Spede. While I was putting down 5-10 1 mark chips, Spede was slamming down 1000 mark chips like it was nothing.
He wasn't just an entertainer, but a serious inventor. He loved to make silly ideas in to reality, and through mucking around came up with lots of actually useful things.
He finished dozens of inventions, and got about ten patents. His inventions ranged from sports&hobby related gadgets, to quality of live improvements for the home. Iirc a few of them are still sold today.
Off the top of my head, there was a ski-lift that ran along the ground instead of up high, a wave damper for small boats that lessens drag, a unisize candelabra with snuff out timing, a portable radio/record player (in 1974!), A waterproof hip-pack for swimmers, somekind of water powerplant, an improved rack for trashbags, and some golf related aids (which he loved to play).
Those were the more sane ones I could recall. But he didn't stick to practical things, most of his inventions were a bit out there. He tried perpetual motion once :)
Spede lived ahead of his time, he also made a lot of his own inventions, which he presented in his films, for example in Uuno Turhapuro films. Tandem Show Boat was one of his impressive work
Spede was genius.
When watching Finnish comedy, the name Spede comes up often. The beer lover in this video is played by Pertti "Spede" Pasanen, probably the biggest name in Finnish comedy that there ever was or will be, possibly rivaled only by his collaborator and friend Vesa-Matti Loiri. He was a comedian, TV and movie director, producer, and an inventor. His nickname Spede comes from an earlier nickname "Speedy" which he got as a kid playing ice hockey, he was often called Speedy Gonzales at the rink. He died in 2001 at age 71 from a heart attack while playing golf.
One Finnish comedy series which isn't mentioned often anymore is a Saturday night political satire called Itse valtiaat (The Autocrats). It was very popular at it's time 2001-2007. It took great influence from British comedy serie Spitting Image but it was 3D animated and really modern at the time. All episodes were made in Finnish except episode 87 (The Autocrats: Operation ESC) which was made in English because it was made for competition for television festifal of Montreux.
It would be nice if you could react to that episode. It can be found on youtube as two parter or from Yle areena as a whole.
Itse valtiaat is a great show! I was a bit too young when it aired to really understand it, but I've been watching a couple of seasons now from Yle Areena.
It started out as an attempt to be animated political satire, but devolved or evolved into a cartoon for chiIdren.
I think the pinnacle of Finnish political satire is still Hyvät Herrat. It was kind of unique even on global scale, because it blurred the line between fiction and fact and was recorded only a couple of days before airing. This enabled it to comment on current affairs.
South Park does that today. But Hyvät Herrat was a whole TV production and sometimes the episodes had to be improvised because some of the (usually politician) guests canceled just before the episode was supposed to be filmed.
alcohol is probably one of those comedy topics that people remember for a long time, many other things change so much that comedy made from those topics is not necessarily so relatable today
A couple of recommendations. "Kummeli Nuts" - a special episode in English Kummeli made for an international competition. And, if you manage to find some sketches subtitled in English, Studio Julmahuvi.
Studio Julmahuvi probably has the biggest production values than any other Finnish comedy show so far. And it shows in both the quality and the awards it received.
Spede - Practical english in practise is another short one in english, try that one 👌
- This is a cake.
- No. This is humor.
The pronunciation is a bit off, it's not "speed show", it's "spede show" 😂
English bot say "Spee-deh" almost right
This comedy is really Spede's ironical statement about alcohol. In real life Spede was teetotal.
This is maybe the earliest sketch I remember from the 80s, it was so clever and funny. I was 3 and the original version was in Finnish. The show was aired in 70s in black and white, and later with new episodes in colour from '84.
Spede is a Finnish legendanry guy
This is like an english lesson for finnish alcoholics
Fun tip. Don't get between a man and his beer. 🤣
Bless your English pronounciation of Finnish names 😊
Spede is so fun and he do the best finnish comedy. Its sad he die over 20 years ago.
You should watch the whole Practical English in practise episode. It was in english because that episode was sent to Montreal at the time, a competition which it won or something, I can't remember. After that episode, you should watch Spede Show - Open the door please. Another Spede Show in english.
Thanks!
Blimey, I hadn't seen that one!
Spe-de.
Gotta phase it out.
Pronounciation for Spede: Spe as in sped or sled, the last de as in dead. Speh-deh :)
FYI it's pronounced "sped-day", not "speed". There are no silent letters in Finnish
Newr seen that one... or maybe i was so little i dont remember... but most important is.... is.... i really need my dayly beer, so i go get it now from friz 🍺
Actually Spede didn't drink alcohol :D
Ketonen & Myllyrinne - Seksivalistus(Sex education)
If you want to try and prenonce Spede correctly try this. Now you pronounce it the same as Speed. Try and add an a to the finish, but only say the beginning of an a. Then change the e in the middle to sound the same.
Try to say "Spee-deh"
Watch this Finnish humor...
One humor please, no this is a cake
Video is
spede show - practical english 1:36
Also soumi people drink alot coffee
well, ladies tendo take ous beer, but it doesnt work.
It's not speed show. Gotta add accent mark that English speaker could pronounce it correct. It's Spédé show. Such a lot of Finnsh humor is related with alcohol just simply coz' Finnsh are such a boozer nation, drinks a lot of alcohol.🤓🇫🇮👻🍻🥂🥃🍸
Kummeli verotarkastaja
I was going to say too that he is actual inventor.
