When i was about 12 years old, i was traveling around Finland with my family on summer holiday in our caravan. We made a pit stop at this one diner / gas station and who was sitting at the coffee table - none other that Vesa-Matti Loiri himself, my childhood hero and idol! Of course i totally lost my sh*t, luckilly there was also a pooltable and i couldn't resist to ask him to play one game with me. He was nice and friendly enough to consent and totally annihilated me, the game lasted less than 5 minutes :D It was one of the best moments of my life!

He really has been one of the lead characters in Finnish entertainment of my whole life. Loved his comedy film roles especially in Spede´s films and tv-shows 1960-80´s. Vesa-Matti´s interpreting some of our national treasured composers/poets are great - singing and recording their stuff.

Uuno Turhapuro armeijassa = Uuno Turhapuro in the military. Despite being in bootcamp, he was allowed in the officers' mess and was treated like someone of note was because his father in law was the defense minister. Uuno takes full advantage of that, of course, which is what much of the comedy in this film is based on.

Vesa-Matti Loiri was a multi-talent - read what he knew in the field of sports The artist Vesa-Matti Loiri, who passed away this week and was loved by the whole nation, was a true all-rounder in the field of art. The whole becomes even more breathtaking when one examines Loir's achievements in the field of sports. It's downright unbelievable what all Vesku knew, and in which all sports he was also successful. Loir could have become a top athlete, but the man made his career choice clear in time, and chose theater. There simply wasn't enough time for everything, even though a man usually made it to every place. However, Vesku played in several sports at the major league level at some point in his career. After leaving Helsinki Kaupunginteatteri, Loiri was a third keeper at HJK, and as a result of injuries to other goalkeepers, he got on the field in the soccer championship series in 1972. It goes without saying that the general public was interested in Vesku's impressive playing style - after all, the man had even won the Finnish championship a few years earlier. In water polo, goalkeeper Loiri even won three WC golds, and in handball there was also one championship in the ranks of SIF, even though the three-keeper couldn't fit in the playing lineup. Loir, who is incredible in his physique and acrobatic qualities, is perfectly suited to the job of a goalkeeper, regardless of the sport. He also had time to improve in hockey, but in that the man settled for the third league level. Loiri showed special talent in boxing. Vesku went into the matches practically cold, and still won. Loir's mobility was a tough word in boxing, and psychologically the man was tough. However, Loiri did not delve deeper into the sport. Billiards was an important sport for Loir - he was even the chairman of the Finnish Billiards Association for a few years in the 1990s. Loiri, who played Kaisa, finished in the 14th place at the best in the championships. On the trotting side, Loiri owned horses and was a familiar sight at the Vermo race track. Especially in later times, Loiri was a very enthusiastic bench athlete. At one time, Loiri said in an interview that he would still like to see Finland play in a prestigious soccer tournament in his lifetime - and this came true both on the women's side and eventually also on the men's side. Vesa-Matti Loiri acted as Uuno Turhapuro

Yeah, it would be hard to beat this if one'd have to rank the most famous and popular comedy movie in Finland of all time. Because most men have been to the army, and these days many of the women too, this movie is very relatable to almost everyone in Finland one way or the other
Kummeli's Kultakuume (Goldrush) might be pretty high as well, or even at 2nd place on such a list, but after the first place, it isn't all that clear what the top 5 would realistically look like

A classic scene from a Finnish all time favorite comedy. This one was the most popular of the Uuno films back in the day. :)
The army setting of the film is actually quite relatable to many Finns because of the practice of conscription, still in effect today. A lot of the comedy stems from the (of course exaggerated) idiosyncrasies and peculiarities of conscript and army life in the barracks.
The trick shots were done by the actor himself, Vesa-Matti Loiri (or Vesku as he was called) was really good at billiards.
