WP's Low Thia Kiang is arguing that Budget should not mixed with GST Increase n be debated separately. Why? Because he doesn't want PAP to use this tactic to confuse ordinary Singaporeans with the justification that GST increase is needed because we gave you such a big budget.
Why are they all laughing?
Because they think it's a small matter and why are we wasting time on this. This may seem like a small thing but in principle, it is not, and in fact it is a big thing, the two thing should be debated separately. Otherwise , it may lead to the precedent where PAP can just give a mega budget leading to a big deficit and use that to justify that Singapore reserves are running out and that we need a GST increase now. This is what he was afraid of, the principle behind it - justifying your remedy/actions/solution with something good or bad that you yourself did. It's so obvious who has Singaporeans' interest at heart - WP's Low Thia Kiang who dare to speak up. Shame on the PAP, just because you are highly-educated n an elite doesn''t mean that you can be all arrogant and attempt to confuse us in parliament.
But what I am afraid is that the new generation of Jamus, Nicole etc may not be proficient in Teochew.

U guys listen carefully. They are not laughing at LTK.. They are laughing at his joke. He cracked a joke and the pap laughed coz they appreciate his joke. LTK was joking that they can bring this gst debate to the rallies for the next GE (2020 as it turns out), since they don't want to debate it fully in the Chambers by announcing the gst hike together with the budget. LTK is saying that gst is something that is important that should be discussed separately to the budget. It can be a distraction when discussed together with the budget. In this video excerpt, I find that it is the pap Ng chee meng who appears to be nit picking with whay LTK said. LTK never said that they shouldn't find sources of revenue to fund projects. LTK also never said that govt shouldn't announce in advance to any price increase. Yet NG chee meng had to accuse him of that. What a waste of time.

@@ashunknown9728 that is why LTK is such an effective opposition that even the Pap give face too. He can use witty repartee to get his point across and put down the Pap defences. If you are always using the harsh way to get your point across, you will only make more enemies and find it hard to get people to agree with you. You look at Dr Chee. He makes some valid points too but because he appears to be personally attacking the pap, the pap jump at what he says and tries to shut him down quickly. The soft approach is needed sometimes. LTK is very good at this.

LTK is concerned about the GST because it affects the commoners' lives directly and he understands the hardship. PAP, with their million dollar salaries, seemed to feel that 2% increment is just peanuts, because all Singaporeans are supposedly millionaires like them.
More importantly, LTK is very bold to face PAP, who is the majority with total power on hands, humiliated by their "elitism laughters", won't back down and sprung up to reiterate his stand on the issue again and again. The only disadvantage is that he is not proficient in English, otherwise he will be able to communicate better and not let the PAP nitpick on his words because many time he couldn't articulate clearly the points he wants to make. Of course the PAP understood exactly what LTK is trying to say but they purposely nit-pick on this to their advantage, putting LTK down.
With the new generations, who are proficient in English such as Pritam, Jamus, Nicole etc., they can eliminate such disadvantage of the WP. By inheriting LTK's ideology, passion and will, without the disadvantage of not being proficient in English, the new generations who took over WP is a formidable opponent of the PAP. Not yet good enough to take charge of Singapore, that's for sure, but good enough to challenge the PAP to review their policies and remind them that the common Singaporeans were unfortunately not millionaires like them as they thought we were.
But what I am afraid is that the new generation of Jamus, Nicole etc may not be proficient in Teochew.

It is not for this reason that the laughed. They were laughing at LTK joke that if the Pap does not want to debate the gst hike separately in parliament (because what they did was to lump the gst hike with the budget and hence was a "distraction" according to LTK), then LTK will bring it to the rallies in the next ge (which is ge2020). Then the pap laughed at his joke. I actually think the pap respects LTK. They are not laughing at him but with him.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a pap supporter but a hammerian. Please do look at the videos properly. We may not have the full speech but at must still try to look at this video in its context and not take a small part of it (laughing part) and twist it out of context. It makes us look very immature.

Parliament is not a joke. Parliament is made up of people. People have emotions, people with high EQ tell jokes to diffuse tense situations. This I think is highly commendable of LTK. If you want to be so "serious" in parliament then start to throw chairs to show your seriousness? What about fist fighting? This is very subtle but LTK is fighting. It is the traditional chinese way. You say things but with hidden meanings. It is very clear pap is not letting him get his way to debate the gst hike more and outside of the budget, like LTK wants. So if you can't get your way then what are you going to do? Fight? Ltk is saying that he would bring the issue to the rallies.. So it's a threat to pap. I used this past parliament to share my view n opinion of pap incidentally it just few days after ge 2020 this guy deserve to loose in Sengkang I thought he deserve comfort. , No,,,, such pride n arrogant spirit is not healthy n it is very contagious to affect Singapore can we build gracious people than builds people with great intelligent but very haughty n arrogant ,, Singaporean must speak up not b suppress n it is our great country

Ng CM got Parachuted into Pasir Ris GRC under the coat-tail of TCH in 2015 but got voted out when he led Sengkang in 2020 as a minister. When he left SAF he flew his plane or whatever and wasted tax payers money on the expensive fuel that the plane used. I doubt he paid the fuel and the price of maintenance for that particular flight with his own pocket money. Is it really necessary? If it was arranged by your typical officers who wanted to carry his expensive balls, why did he allowed it in the first place? Fortunately for him, I am sure he will still be well looked after just like our other ex paper general CDF that had a tinge of regret when he screwed up NOL but NOL made profits immediately after it was sold to CMA CGM. Not to mention another failed paper general who screwed up our SMRT and brought in more paper generals. .......
They laugh at Mr LTK question regarding budgets and avenues...
