Its the speed of sound in glass. 4540 m/s Thats the maximum speed of cracking i would guess since the actual speed is lower than that between 1500-1700 m/s. For example if you had a glass panel perfectly straight 4540 meters long, and pushed it from the farthest end, it would take 1 second for the other side to move. I guess the crack not being perfectly straight could have something to do with it being lower?

We actually have these type of stair cases at my job. I remember the first day I started I asked what happened to the glass. And she said that they are made like that. I thought who in the world wants a broken glass staircase lol.

Slow Mo guys had a camera that only went to 78,000 frames per second. They said that you would need a camera that shoots at over 500 and thousand frames per second. Do you actually see how fast glass breaks but it’s about 4,758 feet per second
