  • The NRL is set to announce that Papua New Guinea will receive a license to become the league's 18th team. After years of discussions and debates, the Australian Rugby League Commission is closing in on selecting the host city for the new club. Recent reports suggest that Papua New Guinea is now the clear frontrunner, with the competition's need for an 18th team expedited after the successful entry of the Dolphins as the 17th club this year. This decision is likely influenced by a significant financial offer from the government.

They don't want PNG to be in the NRL, but very easy to steal resources from PNG.

  • @nellatahilanu7776

I like this idea very much ! PNG has their own style of rugby league which is different from other teams . They run straight and hard and usually bust through tackles . Their brand of rugby is very entertaining and I think it would make me actually watch league more often since I’ve stopped watching because the referees usually decide who win with nrl . I love the sport . Not the nrl body. Let’s hope they go through . From Tonga

A Melanesian team in the NRL would make a lot of sense. As a developing country, we have more pressing issues and problems to solve than having an NRL Team. We need sustainable development such as health and educational infrastructures. If we wish to have a team, it should be a Melanesian Team that includes other Melanesian countries such as Fiji, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. A collective effort from all our governments and stakeholders would pave the way for an 18th team in the NRL. At the moment, I do no think PNG alone is capable of managing an NRL team.

SERIOUSLY WE NEED A TEAM IN NRL. ALL THOSE PEOPLE COMPLAINING PLEASE GO PLAY MARBLE OR JINGLE JUNGLE..

  • @henzkoreba9954

PNG does not need Australian taxpayers money to enter NRL, we will do it by ourselves.

  • @themanwithnothingtolose

As long as it is funded by Private business (sponsors) and not our government than that is fine

We deserve it brother even though we don’t have enough of everything we deserve it and we deserve NRL team.

  • @wairabellie-1313

PNG will be successful becuase we have the talent and young people coming through the ExxonMobil Digicel club Cup. We have the Stock on hand to complete in the NRL. We have semi professional Clubs from the Island, coast line to the Highlands of PNG. Go PNG.

  • @theophilussogoromo3000

We need at least 5 more years to get a good youth system in place to have the depth to even compete in the NRL. If the Hunters have been dominating the Q-Cup then it would make sense, but as it stands we're not there yet.

  • @wehhh-gd1vy

a PNG team is the worst decision they’ll make not bc i think they’re not ready but bc they’re not ready ‘yet’ and the hunters aren’t even consider dominant in the QRL so this making PNG a team now would be a horrible decision.

  • @seanmui8772

Geopolitics. PNG is clearly not ready.

  • @kevinlarry1239

Bulolo Goldfield Land owner (my gold taken and built Sydney before pre independence 1975 ) says yes to NRL PNG.

  • @peterwalker782

This is ridiculous . Perth have the money a junior league and no safety concerns as in Port Moresby . Perth can be privately funded tax payer dollars shouldn’t be used for things that should by the private sector . Plenty of charities struggle for funding to help those in genuine need when Perth can be privately funded it’s a ni Brauner

  • @paulkomboi9624

PNG deserve a team in the NRL. Even though we don't have many players in NRL we have the biggest domestic rugby league competition than all the other Pacific nations. We are not pretenders living in Australia and representing our nation. We are full of pride for our nation from the heart and we can play like there is no tomorrow.

  • @user-bo5rl6mj7j

International exposer will change the mindset of young PNG players to have positive attitude.

  • @remstenmawingu8084

Decision has been reached on high level for the 18th NRL team so our opinion will have no effect. I believed junior program is underway to boost kumuls in near future.

  • @JimmyTai-ej8zf

If this is a reality in 2025, I will celebrate every game PNG plays even if they get the wooden-spoon. This is because I believe with all my heart that PNGs have the natural talent to perform.

  • @werepapone4010

Generally, Papua New Guinea is Capable of doing well in the nrl.

  • @wairabellie-1313

PNG if is successful as the 18th nrl team please consider our Fijian brother's.

  • @paulaarigae9276

Awesome knowing that PNG has very talented young man to go in as 19 team in NRL in Aussie .
