      Unfortunately he came across as too socially liberal, I would of reluctantly voted for someone more socially conservative,
      But as chancellor definitely 100% as I agree with him on tax and welfare and corporation/ business rates tax

    • @tiqvahone
      @tiqvahone Před 6 lety

      mike pen An uncharacteristic swipe I'd say, judging by his other stuff like Great Continental Rail journeys etc. however, z interviewer should have quipped back something like: "Ich spreche Deutsch, that's 1 - 1 to me'. ! To which Portillo would have undoubtedly responded "Touche".

      HE WAS OF COURSE, A REGULAR WEEKLY GUEST ON THE ANDREW NEIL TV SHOW--A WEEK IN POLITICS. AND VERY GOOD HE WAS TOO. BUT HE HAS TURNED DOWN MANY OFFER'S TO BE ON THE SIDELINES IN POLITICS, AS ADVISER FOR THE TORY PARTY, ETC. AND TURNED IT ALL DOWN. HE MUCH PREFER'S TO BE TRAVELLING THE WORLD FOR HIS BBC RAILWAY SERIES, AND OTHER INTERESTING DOCUMENTARY SERIES. AND ALL, SINCE THIS INTERVIEW, UP TO THE CURRENT DATE. AND HE CERTAINLY HAS CHANGED, FOR THE BETTER.

    Very intelligent man and would have been interesting had he not lost his seat in the 97 labour landslide as would at the very least lead the Tories in opposition and may well have beaten Blair in '05. May well have been PM earlier had he properly challenged Major in 95 but he appeared more happy to wound and not kill, a dishonourable position. A darling of the right and favourite of Thatcher but never quite hit the heights. If not PM, a very good Chancellor but Major had Clarke who was very good so, for the two top jobs, it wasn't to be and he fizzled out.

    I'm surprised the very popular nine, 'Railway ' series for BBC tv wasn't mentioned. It is these that are more responsible for recreating his image as Mr nice guy, , than anything else. I've not seen 'this' Portillo before, he looks and sounds slightly menacing, and gives the appearance of someone who's there under duress.

    This man is an immoral elitist,I would love him to become PM,as it would burst is inflated righteous ego when his mouth lands him into many a mess, and he has to resign to save the party. The only time you should look down on others is when you are in the act of helping them up, but that would never register on his moral sat-nav.
