Melodyne • Creating vocal doubles from outtakes

  • In this video, Rich covers the topic of creating effective doubled vocals from alternate takes. To add a layer of complexity and highlight the power of Melodyne, these alternate takes are all from different live versions of the song, recorded without a click track. Therefore, all takes vary in timing and could not normally be used as doubles!
First, Rich shows how to use the orange blobs and grey blobs in Melodyne studio’s track headers for easy visual track alignment. Then, he addresses how to tackle any issues with raspy vocals in Note Assignment Mode for optimum performance. Next, he displays the Spread Unison button for ease of editing. Rich goes on to illustrate how to split notes in Note Assignment Mode with the potential note starting point slider. Additionally, he then uses Note Assignment Mode to show how to get Melodyne to recognize two notes as one. He then uses the basic editing tools for correcting pitch, timing, and amplitude. Rich lastly gives two bonus tips; one using the Sibilant Balance tool to help the doubled vocal mesh, and one using the Pitch Modulation tool to even out the double, and even create another duplicate vocal track for a larger chorusing effect.

I got vocalign, it synchs yes but it also destroys the audio, quality is terrible. art effects. it actually is terrible. wasted my money on vocalign . it s not worth it. i got melodyne finally and i see how smooth it is this is 10 times better. it is time-consuming but it sounds soo natural .

@@cekirdekci32 Agreed! Still ... it would be nice to have a Melodyn align tool that would align orange blobs to chosen reference grey blobs, with a slider to adjust.

it's muuuuch faster just time aligning the takes inside the daw (at least in reaper) and then tuning the doubles with melodyne if needed, editing in melodyne could be better... though i find it to be pretty good for deesing and levelriding, to better prepare vocals for further processing

    • @fillmore999

@@celemony But doesn't that quantize to the "intended" timing of the reference track, i.e. the grid, not the actual timing, so it doesn't match(unless you've quantized the reference track, which I don't want to do)? Melodyne and these tutorials are great, but this one is actually a disservice when Vocalign is out there making this way way way faster.
