- Here is a clip of Cormac McCarthy speaking about some of the problems of finding success while you're still young. Even though they are talking about physicists, his ideas and thoughts can apply to all fields. After the clip, we will discuss McCarthy's career trajectory, failures, and eventual long-term success.

Cormac McCarthy is an American writer who we consider one of the greatest authors of all time. He was born in Rhode Island but was raised and wrote his initial works in Tennessee. However, his most famous (and best) works were written in the Southwestern United States. Below are some links and my opinion on all his books!

Had to log in to say this - very well done video. Found myself nodding along, grateful for your perspective, and laughing. Felt an itch scratched by this. Thanks man.
LETS GO Sean! Thanks for all the support.
I have watched that interview twice and missed this golden wisdom. Thank you.
(Herman Melville)
Thank you!
an absolutely wonderful and necessary message!!! thank you so much. It's such a relief to hear from someone else who feels this way.
No, thank you man! You're out spitting bar for bar with MICK JENKINS LOL! Thanks for the support, and I'm looking forward to supporting your future progress.
@@WriteConscious aw shoot man thanks so much!!! that means a lot, glad you liked the music! likewise, i'm excited to keep tapping into your channel. here's to pursuing meaning through the written word in 2023 and beyond!🔥
It's a really difficult topic with artists, writing was McCarthy's higher purpose in life which is why he remained steadfast and dedicated to his craft without financial rewards. However, genius must be manifested in the world or great works of art/literature/music will be lost -- the heart bond with readers/audiences is the last key to make these works truly flourish and remain part of the canon. I'm just grateful when a wonderful novel happens whether the person is fairly young or seasoned.
Great channel. Just getting into McCarthy in my 40s. Like many of the greats, his reading his work ruins a lot of other books because they suddenly appear too shallow.
Yes!! Luckily, he has such a unique style that if you read someone like a Haruki Murakami it is a different world and you can enjoy it. Very hard to enjoy westerns or other American mid-century classics though.
how do I show my immense gratitude to Mr. McCarthy for all he has done, and contribute to his success by buying one of his Blood Meridian shirts in the back ground? I'm being completely serious. Btw love your channel! Your intense enthusiasm is contagious!
Thanks David!! I will be releasing them in January along with an "Orchard Keeper" shirt. Got super sick and am moving states. But, tested 10+ fabrics and found one I really like!
This is such a beautiful message that should be played in every classroom and to everyone young person who wants to be a writer or an artist.
Thanks!! My students hear this rant about once a week. Most of the time I say it for myself more than anything lmao
That Santa Fe Institute conversation with Cormac and David is fascinating. I'm liking your coverage on it too. Good stuff.
Thanks! A lot more to come!!
Yo Ian I am not reading much lately because I’m playing piano worrying about school watching tv so how can I balance it out so I could read more
Drop Dostoevsky. You're reading books that are too hard right now. You need to gain momentum with easy books that will help create a habit that feels easy. Then transition back to all your ambitious books. You're still young. So many fun books. My biggest regret in high school was wasting time on hard books! Could have gotten all the easy ones out of the way, developed a reading habit, and been a way better reader before college.
@@WriteConscious thank you for the awesome advice
@@WriteConscious yo I am reading siddhartha I’m on page 63
@@WriteConscious bro I read siddhartha in 2 days
Tell me your thoughts! Siddhartha is a great way to get momentum going. Try "The STranger" by Albert Camus next. Another short classic.
Jane Austen had been dead ten years before her books started to become popular. She never knew.
Cool!
I hope you find success with this channel.
Planning on it! Been working at it for 3.5 years and am ready to blow it up this year!
Yo when are you gonna do the Murakami tier list
Weeks! Maybe months. Dialing in on McCarthy hard, then Jung, then Murakami. I would read Kafka on the Shore though!
@@WriteConscious should I read no country for old men
Writing is like winning the lottery..even if you were to follow the trends you have millions of other to jump over
Exactly. Way better to just stay relaxed and do your own thing.
Hey man, i really appreciate the videos, easy sub from me, binging you content now.
LETS GO! The literary renaissance is here
@@WriteConscious i really hope it is my friend, i have a lot of faith that people will get sick of short form, meaningless content like tik tok and CZcams shorts and go back to reading incredible novels. I'm currently grinding every day to get at least 1000 words a day to finish my dark fantasy novel, and your videos, this one in particular, just puts fuel on the fire while allowing myself to relax when i don't hit that goal. I needed to hear that, thanks man. I hope to pick your book of the shelves someday! Good luck brother!
Hope to read your book to brotha! We have decades thought. Here is a poem about non-ambition
How strange to think of giving up all ambition!
Suddenly I see with such clear eyes
The white flake of snow
That has just fallen on the horse's mane!
@@WriteConscious beautifully said my friend!
Closing in on 74… you give me hope. Hey what’s with the photo here? Is that Cormac’s chick bait?
Lol, looks like Cormac was polyamorous before it was cool 😂
McCarthy answered eagerly, as he later said, "I was the only one with any hobbies and I had every hobby there was ... name anything, no matter how esoteric. I could have given everyone a hobby and still had 40 or 50 to take home." …. So … a part of him is Judge… which a part of Judge is in us no matter where we hide. Is that kind of the point of Judge being ubiquitous throughout the kid’s life. See the kid, and you’ll see the Judge I figure 😂
Good take! I do think he is playing with archetypes in his work consciously even if he rejects Jung
He's always slouched 😂
I want that blood meridian shirt
Dropping this week. Tested 10+ fabrics and been washing them daily to see what holds up best. Join the newsletter to hear about it first, but I'm sure I'll be promoting it in all my new videos when it drops :)
Sloppenheimer 🤤😫
How old is he here?
In the photo? Most likely late mid to late 30's.
