Artists who have mastered their craft to the point where they can perform anywhere live with such skill that people lean in and listen intently are where it's at. Both of these artists are just oozing with talent that just flows out of them.

      @drjsmajor Před 2 lety

      "Slowhand" was not a compliment. It was an insult. Look it up!
      "Slowhand" was a British term for a type of clapping that the crowd did when they were annoyed (similar to Boo'ing someone). Clapton had a habit of fiddling with--up to and including--setting up his guitars and restringing ON STAGE, during the show! When he did this the band and crowd would clap in the "slowhand" fashion. His nickname, "Slowhand", was originally a reference to this. It is the equivalent of calling someone who had been "booed", "Boo!"

    I love watching you get excited about what you’re watching. You clearly love the music and playing you see as do I but it’s always fun to see someone excited. Marcus king and guy king are 2 singer/guitar players I’m most exited about for the future of southern music and blues/rock guitar playing. Like I’ve said in the past regarding vibrato and articulation is “if we can’t feel it we don’t care” Rock/blues playing is really telling a musical story and it needs to be interesting. This song puts me in a Chicago jazz club in 1949 with a Cuban cigar in hand and a bourbon on the rocks sweating on the table. This is just classic American smoky jazz/blues. This is advanced playing so if my students don’t find this video for learning then this is advanced stuff I don’t show for a year or so. I love Marcus kings voice and the first time I watched this I kept expecting him to sing at any moment and he never does but after you listen to the style of the song it’s not really meant for a singer like him but Marcus is such a great guitar player he doesn’t miss a beat in his playing at all. His tele tone here is my favorite tele sound where it’s almost like popping glass and not the usual “honk” or “tele twang” this song just oozes atmosphere and I love a song that can put me in a special time or place when I hear it. This version is truly special and that “other guy” ain’t half bad either. Strings, Marcus king and especially guy king for those who’ve never heard him before are musicians worth checking out. In the movie almost famous there’s a scene with Philip Seymour Hoffman’s character speaks about the art of the “beautiful” and that it never lasts. Marcus isn’t gonna win any awards for looking good and being in shape but when it comes to a legacy for future generations he’ll inspire more players and singers than lady Gaga who has producers and writers for her “art” whereas Marcus writes, sings, plays, and feels every aspect of it. His art will last.
    ~Nothing wrong with lady Gaga btw, just using her as an example~ Disclaimer for the easily and stupidly offended. 😜

      The funny thing is: the blues is so simple, most musicians can play it. Technically playing it very good off course requires hundred hours of practice even if you are talented. But even then, if you would not internally have felt the blues, lived the blues, in a way are the blues, it would not have the sound of 'The blues'. Someone who has a crappy instrument and not a lot of technical abilities might be a 'better' blues player.

    Thanks Fil. Should of known you were on to Billy. Just found him and caught a Concert, Wild Horses from the Stones can only be imitated not made your own but in less then 30seconds Billy did and then in many instrumentals hearing Jazz come out??? Add his humbleness and turning down Fame stage Country known's. My gosh he is going to change the whole game and revive Concerts. So thrilled to catch your confirmation of him and your breakdown of how much were seeing/hearing.

    I was just introduced to Billy Strings, and the first thing I wanted to do was to see if you had done an analysis of Billy Strings. I was so excited to see that you had. What a talented artist. I agree with what you said about his talents beings able to be so expressive. He says so much with his guitar and his voice is amazing. You should check out "dust in a baggie" by Billy Strings also. Thanks for sharing and discussing such great music with us.

    I don’t play a lick but understand 100% that these 2 are on a completely different level. You nailed this reaction. Really enjoy your break down. I just discovered both of them this past weekend on accident. I’ve immersed myself in listening since Friday. I don’t understand how this works any more. I’ve never heard either one of them on the radio and believe that both of them have the talent needed to be be top self performers.

    Fil, _please_ do more jazz/swing stuff. Billy's voice is perfect for Summertime - wow, and that old Martin sounds like pure gold. Probably worth it's weight in gold, a 1936!

    Billy's vocals and that little use of harmonics is so sweet! And, yeah, the nice thing about radio is that you could admire the artists on talent alone. I didn't even know what some of the artists looked like until CZcams, (Other than from their photos on the record jackets.)

    Fil your knowledge of music, your knowledge of guitar in particular, and your critiques are most enjoyable.

    Watched this just recently. Thankfully, there are some very talented artists out there BUT don't get the main stream media hype they deserve which you touched on FIL. Good that you gave these two another round of exposure on your channel. First saw Billy Strings and his talented band on Bluegrass Underground; been hooked ever since. They both have a lot of videos on YT and everyone should check them out---amazing talent!
