I never had any reason to join anti-magic factions in RPGs, but now I'm thinking it may be fun to do a Chase roleplay, going "A WIZARD??" every time you see a mage.

Shield ashes, and not just parry either, that's rare. Bash and Crash always had some weird properties, what with blocking while attacking, but it's so situational that it rarely gets properly showcased.
Idk how shield bash is situational. I have a sword and shield build and I always use shield bash as some kind of parry or counter. Always catches people off guard.
Seems like the old sword and board is making it's way into Elden Ring pvp lately since the recent patch. It's nice to see it be actually pretty darn useful
Chase, I'm surprised you didn't use the One-Eyed shield plus the Visage Shield, dual weilded. People panic roll into corners when you rush them and you can Visage shield AoW them to death from there with the shield up, add in the One-Eyed Shield for ranged attacks and knock back horrors and it roughy emulates your bow useage. Combined, you're crazy tough, and quite capable of handling 2 on ones or more with some finesse in placement. I think you'd really enjoy it.
Crash bleed procs on a full commit. I used it for a few tries on malenia outside of her waterfowl, knocking her flat and bleeding at the same time is satisfying.
Yeah I did a strength run with guts Greatsword, Pallisade sheild, frost + bleed, with sheild crash. It’s disgustingly good. Wear Varre’s mask and no top armour to look utterly demented doing it 😎😵
I think the only way vow could ever be useful would be if it was made a sustained thing, like you hold the AoW button down and it constantly drains FP but you're invulnerable until you run out or let off the button. As is its just objectively worse than just rolling.
Actually Vow of the Indomitable is good for dodging normally tricky moves, like Rykard’s first phase shockwave move or the first flurry of Malenia’s waterfowl dance. You can’t just roll those normally.
Since you're enjoying the shield business for some time now: -these days i tested out all shield spells and found out that immutable shield is the perfect thing agaist wizards because it nullifies elemental damage and status procs. -Fingerpring shield with scholar's shield offers tremendous guard boost, while also using ashes of war to proc madness; maybe frost sword spell won't guardbreak shield crash? -Someone that invaded me also managed to put spinning slash on a poisoned fingerprint shield, which i found hilarious even though i got destroyed with insta madness and poison
Shield poking build could be fun. That eclipse shield you have + the scholar’s shield spell lets you block all magic and physical dmg. If you want a magic build, lava sorcery is pretty fun. Make you sure offhand a gelmir staff for the passive lava sorcery dmg.
I cant tell you how much vow of indom has saved my ass from greedy plays lol. They really upped the shield game & I'm here for it. My fav combo is erdtree spear & shield. Keep up the grind!
I did something like this not too long ago, but with medium shields and used it as a gimmick 3 Banished knight shields, one with no skill, one with golden parry, and the last with shield bash use shield bash to trade a hit, swap to another shield and then either parry the next hit or use the ash of war on your weapon, surprising how much it worked was really funny to parry a dual nagi after trading with shield bash

one thing to help determine who is the host after they die before the message appears is to look at the smoke they emit when they die yellow = phantom white/gray = host
These are so fun to watch as they're so underused but clearly useful. You should do another video on this! Or at least incorporate these more into the respective builds
I feel like s.bash is better suited to small/medium shileds, its a good guard breaking tech, and is a little less telegraphed without that little slam you do first with a tower shield

I remember before they got nerfed, I used the fingerprint shield with bleed and shield crash. It could do up to 2k damage depending on their status resistance.
Love this video! A build I would love to see is: Ornamental straight sword (unique move set and I think you’ll love them) and using golden land AOW on something else. Wrath of gold spell paired with the tree sentinel set with twinned helm and maybe brass shield for the full golden warrior look. Thanks for reading!
Others have mentioned it, there are some shields with unique ashes and properties that are all very fun to use. The fingerprint shield is the true standout in this game tho, that thing is in a class of its own.
My dude literally lucks out *_twice_* on being riposted after being guardbroken from both weapons *_and_* magic while using Shield Crash -- to say nothing of all the times he could've been backstabbed -- and *_still_* he keeps using it over the superior Shield Bash. The statuses and winged buffs aren't worth it, brother.
I played around with shield crash and bash a little and liked it on the spiked shield with natural bleed on it. It can actually stance break in pve too. The bleed shield is super fun for it. Frost infused can get two procs or just more bleed on it
I'd like to see Charge Forth on bleed or frost infusions in a future video. Only usable on spears, halberd, lances and the uninfused Golem's Halberd does limit the move sets available to you though.
Wondering if you would like to try out a shortbow build with throwable items to mix up or a parry shield and a pulley crossbow to tripple shot instead of riposte
I believe Greatshield Talisman was nerfed a while ago to combat Fingerprint, and it actually does little for actual greatshields (small and med shields still like it though). I think the Viridian Medallion would be better for greatshield stability, but someone please correct me if I’m wrong. Also had no idea frost buildup was so good without INT. Definitely trying the Shield Crash strat, thanks Chase! 😊
Frost doesn't scale off int at all, so any weapon with frost will do the same buildup as it will with 99 int. It just won't have very good scaling on the magic damage.
I almost never use shield ashes of war. My favorite ash of war shield is the cyclop shield, because with non-magical builds i can obliterate things vulnerable to fire from a long range without fearing physical damages because the parrying use of the shield is active during his quite long animation before the burst of fireball. Against strong, but light opponents like Malenia its a tru pleasure to use, even when she use waterfall dance, because if the ball struck her in the air, it will knock her back.
I would love to see a Mr. Clean cosplay. Scrub down with soap for a greeting and use bubble sorceries. Probably not the most viable, but it sure would catch a lot of laughs.
I like doing the Shield Crash build with Fingerprint Shield in each hand. The running R1 will block through enemy damage and cause madness buildup simultaneously. The L2 (shield crash) will be a follow up that true combos when the opponent is frenzied. Or for an even more disgusting true combo, you can use Pulley Crossbow with sleep arrows, and follow up with Shield Crash. In order to hold 2 fingerprint shields, you’ll probably want the Winged Crystal tear to lighten your weight. But this build is secretly one of the best counters to the meta at the moment!

A thing that might help out against wizards while using the shield is to spec some int for Scholar's Shield. It boost your magic defense and guard boost quite a bit, enough to tank spells against it.

The host always has a circle next to their name it was a dark one this time but im pretty sure it glows when they have a rune active (useless knowledge).
I personally think shield crash is worse for trading than shield bash since it can be guard broken. (I made this comment while watching the intro, gonna watch the rest of it!) Another problem with shield crash in 1.09 was that you could passive poise the first two hits and kick it on reaction for a riposte. Don't know if you can still do that.
To continue with the shields and to give a better showcase, it would be fun if you did invasions where most of all of your damage can only come from guard counters. It would still give a variety of weapons and types of shields to use.
Scholars shield mightve been a nice sorcery to add to this build. From what i remember, it improves your guard boost so you can shield crash more reliably during trades

I have a build thats str/arcane and uses those shields, then switch to the marais sexecutioner greatsword. Or vyke's whore spear

Bleed infused Fingerprint Stone Shield: it has high attack power, can bleed, and also cause madness. Works as a lone weapon too

What situations can you recall where you used vow of indom? Realistically I can’t think of any where I would use it

On a str arc build the frenzy will scale with arcane if you bleed or poison infuse it

Bleed Shield crash on fingerprint was sooooo op on release
I think the knock down on Shield crash is more important than you may think. Its long enough to chug or boulise
