I got back into MTG last year when Dominaria Remastered dropped and I’m still chipping away and collecting the entire set. My philosophy is to have fun cracking packs until you hit 50% of the set - after which just buy singles. I’ll occasionally buy a collector booster as a treat in hopes of landing some mythic or rare alt art. I also really enjoyed the LOTR set. I only have a couple commander decks and they’re just the Warhammer precons and the Mordor precon. I really enjoy playing them casually with friends even if they’re not the most competitive. TCGs are a really fun hobby if you pace yourself and have self control over your spending. Like with anything, don’t gamble if you can’t afford to and don’t get into it trying to make money off it. Also calling MTG the Fortnite of TCGs is extremely accurate since Universes Beyond became a thing

I put myself through college playing blackjack. You just have to write down every amount you win and every amount you lose. If you hit a losing year, stop. I played for 12 years and the 12th year ended up being a losing year so don’t play anymore. Self control is essential tho for sure

If you had a dedicated framed camera pointed at an angled rotating display to highlight the shimmer as you rotate the cards would be TOPS! Basically a jewelry showcase setup. It would make a world of difference in appreciating the fine craftmanship of the cards. This should be a thing somewhere, might as well be here. Much love bro
I've been abstinent from TCG opening for 8 years. My addiction started back in '09, I remember having that dopamine effect for every Holo I've pulled... They'll be worth something, I told myself... hundreds of dollars, probably thousands, spent on those cards. Never once did I play the card game. All of them were hoarded in the vain hope I'd make a fortune of them. Never did. Whatever money I did get from duplicates I spent on more cards. It was a vicious cycle. Soon, the relationships I had with friends and family were banished to the Shadow Realm one by one. Eventually I had an intervention in 2016 and talked to my doctor. Getting rid of the cards was challenging, and the withdrawal was terrible... The feeling afterwards was so refreshing though. I was free from any trading card packs and have been ever since. This addiction was something I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy.
You know who eeeeeelse has an addiction to Magic the Gathering? MY MOM! Entire room in the garage, Magic The Gathering. She was one of the greats, steadfast squirrel commander player for YEARS, and actually showed off the deck to the guy responsible for most of the squirrel cards, I forget his name, meaning she might be at least partially responsible for the existence of Chatterfang, who makes her kind of terrifying with her deck now, old deck was green/white Trostani, Selesnya's Voice, with the staple combo of Earthcraft Squirrel's Nest. Now, I also play commander. I have a deck. A sliver deck. A First Sliver deck. Pure slivers. 0 cost suspend spells. Changelings. All sliver commanders aside from the human and Sliver Queen. Heeheeheehaw. I also have some precons and a Sakashima Krark deck. Honestly cool to see that you play as well!
Who needs spells when a sliver can do the same thing? Oblivion Ring? No, Constricting Sliver! Removal? No, Necrotic Sliver! Aura Shards? No, Harmonic Sliver! Instants? No, Quick Sliver! Oh yeah then there's Gravemother or whatever the new 5 color is as well as Dredge Sliver or whatever the unearth giver is for recursion.

They'll be worth something, I told myself... hundreds of dollars, probably thousands, spent on those cards. Never once did I play the card game. All of them were hoarded in the vain hope I'd make a fortune of them.
Never did. Whatever money I did get from duplicates I spent on more cards. It was a vicious cycle. Soon, the relationships I had with friends and family were banished to the Shadow Realm one by one.
Eventually I had an intervention in 2016 and talked to my doctor. Getting rid of the cards was challenging, and the withdrawal was terrible... The feeling afterwards was so refreshing though. I was free from any trading card packs and have been ever since. This addiction was something I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy.

She was one of the greats, steadfast squirrel commander player for YEARS, and actually showed off the deck to the guy responsible for most of the squirrel cards, I forget his name, meaning she might be at least partially responsible for the existence of Chatterfang, who makes her kind of terrifying with her deck now, old deck was green/white Trostani, Selesnya's Voice, with the staple combo of Earthcraft Squirrel's Nest.
Now, I also play commander. I have a deck. A sliver deck. A First Sliver deck. Pure slivers. 0 cost suspend spells. Changelings. All sliver commanders aside from the human and Sliver Queen. Heeheeheehaw.
I also have some precons and a Sakashima Krark deck.
