It was the first time I heard him sing and he has an amazing vocal prowess plus when he sings it is full of emotions which makes his rendition indeed a stellar and spectacular performance.

It's is impromptu no practice sir there's a clip while he was called by David when David is reahersal,he just ask if he want to sing this songs,just only 1 try ,that's why stell always looking for a cue to David while singing it
