I'm still rocking a pearl export series I bought new 30 years ago. I've traveled and played this kit at gigs in a lot of different places and it does a good enough job for what it is. Upgraded heads and dampers can really make a difference in the sound of "cheaper kits". I hope to build a "dream" kit some day. Thanks for the great content!

I got a Pearl Forum which is just a rebrand of the export, it’s a sturdy bitch that I splurged on the heads 😂
Also still using my Pearl Forum series I bought in 2001 and after many gigs and road trips over the decades it's still sounding good!

Have you ever been on Meinl Cymbals channel to showcase their cymbals? The kit sounds awesome and I love the sound of the cymbals 👍
I recorded a drummer that had a Pearl Reference kit 15 years ago, and it was the best sounding drum kit I've ever recorded! The toms sound like there is EQ already applied (you know the typical bass up, treble up, midrange down. It is the most ideal recorded drum sound in my opinion (if you can afford one). Great performance and unveil 66Samus!
I used to be the Southern Area Sales Manager for Pearl Music Europe in the UK. Honestly, the factories and the craftsmen where these are produced are absolutely phenomenal.
It was an absolute pleasure being consulted on the Joey kit from Slipknot, various Masterwork finishes and the Reference kits back then. Absolutely sublime. People often overlook just how good the Pearl Hardware is too. PPM for the ingots used for all the hardware is better than any other drum manufacturer.

Really cool story of how they came about making the kit a standard offering. Also equally awesome how dialed in the composition of woods are, and how they make the drums sound. I never realized there was so much more art to creating a drum than a round piece with two skins on each end 😂(but seriously woah)
I played Pearl drums when i was "Semi-Pro" player.I end up with 3 drum set over a period of 12 years...to me Pearl is where i belong.I talk in terms of having a Based sounds where you start your choices of skins,sticks and Beaters...Pearl was where i Was comfortable with what delivery was ask me to give.....mainly rock,hard rock,punk,punk ska and even Prog metal......basicaly Pearl gave me the Opportunity to Work various project.....to be a semi pro i defenetly needed the quality from Pearl Custom Orders....Thank you Pearl Drums Company....beyond awesome product really.

Like this first message I gave you when I followed, I said I'm not a drummer, so you'll have to let me know if I'm picking up on this correctly. But even just as a guitarist with no drumming experience, I felt like I immediately heard a more pronounced clarity in each of the hits. I think the different woods designed specifically for each tonal sound really made a massive difference!
I play a Reference Kit with a granite sparkle finish. I must say it’s the best kit I ever played. The 20ply snare has a huge cracking pop to it. The 18in floor Tom is thunderish along with the 22x18 bass drum. Best Kick drum I’ve ever heard. I’d put it up against any kit out there. The whole tone of each piece is spot on. They tune easily, and match up well amongst each other. The mix of different tone woods is like having a heated blanket on a snowy day. Can’t go wrong with this line. Will keep it till I’m gone or handicap. Great video!!!!
Personally I don't think anyone should ever sell any of their kits or equipment. I always feel bad for people when they do. Even myself. lol But luckily picked up a nice kit recently and back in the game after being out far too long in my book. Life without Music (and drums) would be a Mistake!

Started out with a Forum series many years ago. Heard of the Reference series many years ago as well. I always found the choice of so many options of plies of wood to be so overwhelming with all the different options, but I like how this Reference model just picks the optimal combinations for you. Love Pearl!! I hope to have a Maple Masters series one day!
That snare is crrrrrrackin. I wish you would've gotten one of this snares to go along with the Masters kit. That would be the perfect combo.

I'm still using my wine red Session Series kit I bought back in 1994.
I still have the receipt. Two kicks, 4 rack toms, and 2 floor toms. I paid 2400.00 for back then.
I just played in a guys home studio who had that kit. Sounds amazing. I was practically drooling on the snare😅. Best one I ever played. And he had a duplicate set for playing out!
