This young man is the most talented individual that I've ever seen in my 56 years. He feels every lyric that comes out of his mouth, he's just incredible. The people he teams up with are also absolutely off the chain with their talent. Music industry wake up, these are the people we NEED to hear from!!! Loved your reaction guys.

Ren lives in my city. He's a busker. Basically, he is a street musician and makes most of his living from donations during his street sessions and CZcams views. He's fantastic and one of my favourite artists. He busked and performed shows with a band called The Big Push. Check them out. Their covers are great and the original music is amazing as well.
Ren is like an onion, he's got many layers. Just keep peeling.

@@99elizabeth I've seen so many great bands in Brighton. Paul Thomas Saunders made my friend weep during a gig. He was visiting from the US. The quality of musical freedom this city offers is amazing. Everyone is at their "A game".

The reverb is not digital I don't know weather you guys have noticed but ren makes his voice sound different with environment the hall there in is bare so gives the echo reverb very clever
He knows how to make use of acoustics in whatever environment he is in. Every bit of his videos and lyrics have meanig and intention.

If you enjoyed this and want more raw vulnerability, I would highly suggest Ren X Chinchilla singing How to be Me (Live). Context helps, so just keep in mind that the song was written after Ren lost a friend after he unalived himself. So the song is his was of working through grief. Needless to say powerful stuff, but at the same time emensly beautiful.

@Daniel Rademeyer I’ve reduced certain meds but I alcoholism runs through both sides of my family dramatically and I was gearing that way so I stopped drinking 20 years ago. It’s hard but it’s finding the root of our issues. For me it’s genetic and a severe abusive childhood. Abandoned and neglected and just left to fend for myself. But I’m still here with 3 beautiful boys celebrating 43 on Tuesday. Always here if you need to talk 🇮🇪♥️
I asked my daughter to share this with her husband who JUST last weekend was put in ICU for heart failure because of his fentanyl addiction. He was released today to come home. I asked my daughter if she showed it to him. She said she did and that he can't stop thinking about the song. Not sure how this will end.

Kyle's face when they hit the duet on 'little by little' for the first time is how I imagine i looked when I first heard this. A mixture of searing joy, wonder, amazement and respect all at the same time. Too many to be able to speak at the same time. Its a wonderful, moving song and this was one of the best reactions to it that I've seen. Nice one guys.

Chinchilla's first line is "Sertraline and a sip of serotonin," which I believe are two things given to treat things like anxiety, depression, bipolar, OCD, PTSD, etc.
Yeah, Sertraline is the generic name for Zoloft, which is a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor. Serotonin itself is a neurotransmitter and an imbalance of key neurotransmitters has been linked to mood disorders like you mentioned. The problem is it's an early one and it causes a lot of problems for some people, killing all emotion, making it feel like your whole EQ has been zeroed out. (It was a good first step for me, but I've moved on to a better fit.)

Not sure if you guys did the Jenny/Screech/Violet trilogy, but they did a TREMENDOUS job in using room noise and ambient reverb. This as well as showing that Ren can really, really sing, as well as rap, and us a brilliant lyricist and performer. It shows his lack of ego, despite it being his song etc. I the final part of the video, he is out of frame or in.the edge of frame. As he knows this is Chinchilla's moment and she deserves to be in the center of the frame.

He was discovered and signed by Sony from his street busking days in Brighton before he got sick and Sony let him go. This was live recorded in one take, as many are. His street performances with Sam or his band are great too. On his rap The Hunger and Losing it (Fisher retake) are two I really like.

I think people are connecting with Ren's music so much (regardless of what they usually listen to) because he's real, and genuinely talented. He's not a pop star dressed by a label, given songs written by someone else and told to mime them on stage to a backing track. He doesn't warble wit auto-tune. He doesn't create music tailored to an audience. He doesn't trap himself in a style or format that's considered popular. He's a real artist.
He reminds me of the grunge artists from back in the 90s. He makes me think of Eddie Vedder, Jeff Buckley, Michael Stipe, all the artists who just created and did their thing regardless of what the labels wanted and what was being played on the radio.
Because of that we can all see the heart and soul in what he does, we can relate to the subject, and we can hear his voice as it is naturally. If you asked 90% of modern singers out there right now to perform like this live they would probably crap themselves and run away. They can't write like this, they can't sing without auto-tune, they can't play an instrument, they can't come up with a concept.

Never in my life did I think I would find a song to describe how it feels when getting out of a really bad depressive and manic episode, my uncle showed me this song when I wouldn’t get out of bed, when I had lost hope for everything in life. REN truly has the ability to connect with a wide audience it’s truly wonderful.
I feel lots of emotions listening to music, but this song gave me something I haven’t felt in a long time… and this was my first time hearing it. Raw is the perfect word to describe it but in the best way! I found you guys because Ren posted a clip on his Instagram, and I must say, I love how emotional and into it you both get! It's so refreshing to see that other people feel music with a similar intensity. If a song can make me cry or make the people listening cry or dance, I'm all for it! Hey guys ... I remember me and my buds at 3:00am singing our hearts out in the Parkades downtown with our acoustics (the cops would stand there listening with big smiles until they kicked us out!!! LOL). That reverb is exactly the same ... Its actually really hard to capture it as well as they did here. ( ... at least with the gear we had. ) LOL
To me it sounds like he is talking about the difference between the antipsychotic medications that he is being fed by his Psychiatric Doctors compared to the street opiates that he chooses to use to self medicate. The floating 'chalk lines' representing the prescription meds that create a disassociated state that is notoriously and uncomfortably numbing to keep psychosis at bay, the side effect being that it still feels like death in the way that you are unable to recognize any sense of self. The alternative is that opiates work to escape the psychosis, VERY TEMPORARILY, but also in a very dangerous and reckless way. The struggle is between the methods of escape from the psychosis. Do you face the feeling of being dead to yourself in a prolonged dissociated state or do you just accept the slow but inevitable suicide of opiate addiction that comes with the SEDUCTION of "... a sip of serotonin ...". I'm hearing Chinchilla as the seduction ... the duet of her voice representing the artificial euphoria of the opiate. Do you just DRAW the chalk outline yourself ... or 'merely exist' in the chalk outline you are being administered? I personally can't imagine having to make that decision, especially when it is a decade long process to recovery, as in Ren's case. Either way ... being erased must feel like the end result while you are inside that 'forever' struggle. The 'moments of clarity' would be few and far between. I imagine this would be just as unsettling as the original psychosis until one is far enough into recovery to ACTUALLY TRUST the hope that clarity brings. Unfortunately, addiction combined with poor mental health is an extremely complicated situation and very poorly understood, resulting in the epidemic we are seeing out there on our streets. Sorry ... I'm just talking out my ass here but this is where the song took me ...

If you guys want to go deeper into the rabbit hole, an older raw and purely amazing song played on street is Blind eyed by Ren with Sam Tompkins. That was the first song I've heard by Ren when I found out about his existance. And since 2018 I follow his astonishing talent expressed through his music. He is simply out of this world. A genius artist in everything he does, lyrics, music compositions, vocal lines, playling guitar, piano, video concepts, directing them, writing scripts, stories telling, acting, rapping, poetry, analogies, metaphors, diction, beatbox, so inteligent and difficult word games rimes (nothing is by chance) and so so meaningful messages in absolut every song that he does. You will not find one song, or performance that doesn't impress you. He lives his music, and through it. Is everything to him, it is him. Not taking about all he has been through with his life, health problems and misdiagnosis for more than 6 years, (losing his Sony records contract as well). Such a strong, determined and brave soul. A life inspiration for anyone. All the respect and appreciation. He deserves all the world to know about him and listen to his art. 🙏🌍🎶👂🤍

I’m a touch late to the REN rabbit hole, but I’m obsessed. This song hits me every time…for me (and what’s great about music and art is everyone has their own personal spin on what it means, not really right or wrong) it’s about the struggle with mental health. Scared of being ok-because for those of us with mental health struggles, that can and does change on a dime, it’s almost easier to stay in the struggle. At least it’s a constant. Sertraline (antidepressant) and a sip of seratonin-yup. Some of us need that every day just to get going. There’s a pill for everything-there is, but they’re just a bandaid. Wash it down. You’ll be fine…but it’s temporary. Balance on your toes in the gallows so you can breathe-kinda like “hanging in there”, just getting through the day. So many levels in this song. Full body goosebumps every time. 🖤 I love Rens ability to so cleverly describe what he’s saying. If you don’t pay attention you’ll miss it.
Just love the first line, "sertraline and a sip of serotonin" its an SSRI (seratonin reuptake) in the UK. The "don't cry cause there's a pill for everything". Just makes so much sense. To having to take something to just feel okay, pills are given out way too often. You say you feel down and then it's just "here, have some pills". Same old. This song hits hard if you've ever been in any kind if situation like that. So many lyrics i can connnect to and sure many others too. 🙏 Thank you REN & CHINCHILLA 🙏 Bringing this to light ✨ because dark days are experienced by us all. And feeling unheard by the medical industry....
