  • When buying Used Snap On tools online, whether FB Marketplace, Craigslist, etc. here are some tips to consider. And here are a few of my recent scores that don't come up often.
    One of the reasons we buy quality tools is they hold their value. Not that we should buy to resell, but making jumps to the next best thing is easier if you can get most of your money back on your previous choices. What do you think?

    Where I used to live, there were these local tool swap meets 4 times a year... got loads of very good stuff there.
    But once computers, Google eBay & Craigs List got going, prices shot up... and selection tanked. It's sad...

I wanted to ask you/the fellas in the comment section,which networks you use to find tool deals? I'm gonna be looking for old tools,new tools...things that are difficult to come by in my hometown. So If any of you guys have any suggestions on where to get my stash of tools to bring back home,I would really appreciate it! :D

      I've had the best luck with FB marketplace, after searching several times for something it will curate your feed to show specific items. I'd been looking for months to find a top box for a Matco "pro-formance series" (made in the early 2000s) box since I'd bought a 56" bottom at a crazy good price. I opened FB one evening and here was my same box top and bottom, I talked with the owner and he agreed to sell just the top since he wasn't having any luck selling them together, now I have a perfect matching box for a rock bottom price. It just takes persistence, some luck, and some algorithm to get what you're looking for.

  • @rwbishop
    @rwbishop Před rokem +1

    Maybe a little off topic, but in these parts a lot of bigger stuff has been turning up in the 'local' sources... tool boxes of every make, nice vises, anvils and you name it. They're always priced sky high, but the sellers are usually desperate. Keep an eye out, set up 'saved searches' on everything your interested in. You have nothing to lose!

    • @lastbesttool
      @lastbesttool  Před rokem

      Good points. For some, a panic selling sets in when there are external pressures forcing the sale. I feel bad for those desperate to sell, but liquid assets are liquid. Tools are a step or two away from liquid. Although I have been curious what would happen if I dumped a toolbag of Snap on tools on the bank teller's lap saying I would like to deposit these.

    I know snap on has a lifetime warranty but I heard it's only for the original purchasers and that you have to show proof of purchase as well. How would I warranty the snap on tools I buy used if Im not the original buyer that bought it brand new?

      Oddly, it seems mostly up to the discretion of the local dealer. If you have a good relationship with the dealer, and buy off the truck, I've found the dealers to be awesome. But I've also heard horror stories on both sides like where someone buys old SO tools on eBay and wants new replacements. And also SO dealers that drag their feet even on tools bought by that customer off that truck.

    I would buy almost new looking snap on tools for the same price if not less then new craftsman tools

    First, be prepared for a bunch of guys on FB and Craigslist that got divorced from reality a long time ago and price stuff like it's straight off the truck and won't take a penny less even when it's been on there for months. Second, having a good Snap-on guy is good except mine is yet another flake who shows up once in a while, prices used electric ratchets with no warranty close to what you can buy a Milwaukee for with a 5 year warranty, and takes forever to get stuff when you order it (like months). Now, I have gotten a ton of good tools from FB but it was generally just being in the right place at the right time.

      My BIL was a Snap On dealer in the day... his franchise agreement stated he was to honor the any & all warranty claims. If it happens in the real world, thats a crap shoot. The trick to this is to stay out of debt. Buy tools with cash a little at a time. Keep cash in your pocket and be ready when guys quit or get fired.

      Good points. I've talked with a pawn shop owner who said his general rule is to look up the item on eBay's completed auctions listing to see if the tool is selling, and if there is anything special about it. Buyer Beware... Snap-On's warranty is a limited lifetime warranty that is offered to the ORIGINAL PURCHASER ONLY!!!
    If you have a Snap-On dealer that you buy from, he/she will most likely take care of you if you buy a used tool and break it. But if you don't have a dealer, don't be surprised if you have trouble getting a broken tool replaced.
