In tonight's top story: The scope of the damage from the Jasper, Alta., wildfire is much clearer now, as Parks Canada says 358 structures in the town have been destroyed - about 30 per cent of the townsite. As Heather Yourex-West explains, most critical infrastructure has survived the fire.
The Olympic games officially got underway Friday in Paris, with an opening ceremony that was the first of its kind. Rather than the usual parade of nations unfolding inside a single major venue, athletes from around the world sailed through the city on the Seine River. Crystal Goomansingh is in Paris with more.
Canada's chance to shine on the opening day of the Olympic games was dimmed by scandal, rocking Canada Soccer. The head coach of the women's team was sent home from the Paris Olympics late Thursday over allegations of spying on other teams with drones. As Eric Sorensen reports, Canada Soccer's CEO is calling out a "systemic ethical shortcoming" in the organization.
The Crown dishonourably breached the Robinson Treaties and must negotiate a settlement with First Nations within six months, the Supreme Court of Canada has ruled. In a ruling Friday, the Supreme Court said the Ontario and Canadian governments had a mandatory obligation to raise that amount when economic circumstances warranted. David Akin has more.
