Does Knee Arthritis Develop If You Never Have ACL Surgery?

- This question came in this week:
"Hello, Don't you think persons with torn ACL can develop osteoarthritis is surgery was not performed?"
- Jason Movie & Football Clips
This is a great question for people with recent ACL injuries or old ACL tears that never had surgery.
ACL surgery is not always needed. It is possible to be very healthy in your knees even if you choose not to have the ACL tear surgically repaired.
We'll answer this with more details and any other questions you might have in today's livestream with Dr. David.

I broke and dislocated my ankle and am at risk for ankle arthritis and this video helped because it's the same concept even for the ankle
A question doctor that imbalance on the knee will cause also arthritis in the hip yes or no? and what do you think about the injections like Hyalgan (injection)? thanks
Please tell us how to deal with bursitis and tendonitis .In the morning my legs look as normal as my legs can look.but by evening I have swelling on the anterior just below both knees. It looks like a saggy bag of water. Nothing else looks swollen. The doctors won’t tell me what to do about it.
Hello Dr good afternoon. I have a complete tear of ACL and Meniscus. Some dr telling the by doing muscle strengthening i can come with normal activity. some dr referring me to go for surgery. i dont know what to do
Thank you. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Can knee brace help me to prevent arthritis
Hi dr my knee is paining to much and while walking it's sound kar kar so plzz tell me what too do
hello
I can hear you fine
Hey Claudia! Glad you can hear us!
Ok thanks for your information
Hi I doing physical therapy an my knees burning an get very stiff is that normal
Hey Carmen! No that is NOT normal! It means there's too much pressure build up in your knees! You're going to irritate them if they aren't already irritated!
And how do you fix that
Can I have ACL surgery for my hip instead of hip replacement
Hey Claudia, you cannot have an ACL surgery in the hip because that ligament is unique to the knee.
MRI shows ACL thickening and fluid around it . Not able to bend my right knee beyond 90 degrees for past 7 months. Doing rehab exercises at home for past 3 month to strengthen surrounding muscles .doc want arthoscopy , which I don’t want. Pls suggest some exercises
Hello Anitha! Sorry to hear about your ACL problem :-(
That's a tough situation you're in not being able to bend your knee all the way for the past 7 months!
If you're not making any progress in bending your knee, then you need to think about getting professional help so that you don't create other problems like a meniscus tear and arthritis. An arthroscopy might not be a bad idea if you don't make progress on your own or with a physical therapist.
The important thing though is that ACL tissue does heal and if you can get the extra fluid to go down along with any swelling, then you should be able to gain more knee motion.

Can you do the videos to make strong all that areas,? thanks
Hi. Apart from loads of CZcams videos Dr David has a 28 day program for the knees and another for the back. I have the knee one and within days the pain reduced significantly and now the swelling is down too. I highly recommend it.
