I might be mistaken, but you need to be appointed to a service academy, so they’ll likely never take a transfer. So it’s really only Clemson.
You cannot transfer into a service academy (I'm a service academy graduate) you start as a plebe (freshman) and can leave without military obligation until the end of your sophomore year, after that you are locked in to military service (with very few exceptions). The academies are allowed extra roster spots due to their unique circumstances.
"Only Clemson" was Josh's WHOLE POINT if you watched his facial expression when he mentioned it TWICE. This show doesn't have the entertainment value unless you're watching while listening. It's probably one reason JP wears only white tees on the regular show.

Absolutely right about the controversy scenario. KU is one team that could be undefeated in the regular season because of a really easy schedule. If they did and lose the conference championship game, I could see them either being left out or part of the controversy. They’re not the only team with an imbalancedly easy schedule.

I don’t believe service academies can take Portal transfers, only first-year students with congressional appointments. Their function is to create commissioned officers with an additional 5-year service commitment.

They play cupcakes in every conference. Go look at national champ Michigan’s schedule last season. They opened the season with Ecu, UNLV, bowling green. Next was 7-6 Rutgers, 5-7 Nebraska, 6-7 Minnesota, 3-9 Indiana, 4-8 Michigan state. Bye week then 4-8 Purdue. They did not face a ranked opponent until November 11. So who really plays cupcakes ?

Hot take: Oklahoma somehow squeaks out a 10-2 record and makes it to the title game, this all somehow against what turns out to be the toughest schedule all-time (ends up playing 6 top 10 teams and 3 top 25). Very specific, I know, but there it is.
I think this will be a year that marks change in regards to the major top teams going forward. There will be a new team that is a perennial top 4 team, probably coming out of the Big 12.

As a biased Michigan State alumni and lifelong fan, look at who we lost. We lost 4 starters, maybe 5 or 6 if you want to give some players the benefit of doubt. We have been getting some fantastic players coming in: Aiden Chiles (OB), Ed Woods (CB), Jack Velling (TE), Jordan Turner (LB), Kay’Ron Lynch- Adams (RB), 5 defensive lineman so far I believe, and many more. The starters we lost left for schools that were willing to overpay for their services in order to get that extra umph to take them over the edge. Jonathan Smith is trying to build a strong culture and overpaying players, throwing money at anyone and everyone is not the way to go about it. Michigan State will be just fine, this season my be rough but we will be fine 💚🤍

I'll try to sell you on LSU. They don't have the hardest schedule in the SEC, they have offensive depth, a good QB, good receivers, a solid RB room in Kaleb Jackson and veteran Josh Williams. Still a lot of blue chip players on defense with a completely different and upgraded staff. A number of opponents with first year staffs and significant roster changes, they aren't over or under rated. Brian Kelly has also lead his last 8 teams to 10 wins or more. I really wouldn't vet against him or his staff's ability to develop players. LSU still has more talent than most of their opponents they will face, that gas under achieved at times, but none the less are still there

I wouldn't call 2024 LSU "hype." It's more of a "hope." Feeling good about QB. OL looks good, and LSU has been working on diversifying the run game. Doesn't have to score like '23, but grinding clock might be nice. Nussmeier's arm give them quick-scoring potential (emphasis on potential, time will tell). Defense is entirely based on better fundamentals. Personnel doesn't match up, but if fundamentals are there, there's hope for the future. Defense looked solid in '23 spring game, so maybe looking awful in '24 spring game isn't the worst thing. Also, if Josh believes in the "Year 2 Matt Rhule effect," why not believe in "Year 3 Brian Kelly effect"?

Dang Josh, you pretty much sloughed off Auburn. Sure, Freeze has some young guys that will play (and freshmen make mistakes as well as good plays), but Auburn is a clear portal winner on both sides of the ball. 7-5 is the floor. 8-4 has every likelihood of being Auburn's regular season outcome with a world where 9-3 happens. They don't make the playoff, but they're gunning for the CFP in 2025.

LSU has one of the best Olines in the nation. Josh Williams and Caleb Jackson, who will be a star in the future, return in the backfield. Lacy Hilton Sampson all return at WR, along with CJ daniels and elite wr transfer from the portal “losers” LSU. Nussmeier will light teams up. People seem to think LSU has no Dlinemen. Guillory is a beast, Gio Paez from wisc transferred in. There are numerous upper class men who didn’t start last season bc of wingo smith and Jefferson. The edge rushers are all beasts. Swinson Womack and jones. Oh and LSU upgraded their entire defensive staff. Coach Raymond is coaching the secondary, coach Davis the D line. Could LSU use one more alpha dog on the interior? Sure, but I’m actually glad everyone thinks it is still 2023. When LSU starts 5-0 gets bama ole miss and ou at home, and ends up in the playoff, don’t say you weren’t told.

There is no reason for Clemson to use portal. They retain nearly all their starting caliber players from their yearly top 10 recruiting classes. They have had a young team the last couple yrs and have had to make some changes in their offensive philosophy. You will see their teams culture perservere over these “portal teams”. I fully exoect them to win the ACC and finish in the top 10 this year. Messing in the portal wouldnt make them any better than that, maybe only worse by screwing up their culture.

No reason?? Prior to 2021 they hadn’t lost 3 or more games since 2014 and now they have for 3 straight seasons but yeah who needs to bother with the transfer portal right? You may not agree with the portal and that’s fine, but it’s not really possible to compete with teams that use it and do well with it. They recruit well, but so do other teams such as Georgia, Texas, LSU, OSU, etc. and they all use the portal to their advantage. Clemson is stuck trying to develop their young players and compete with teams who have a bunch of talent and then also bring in guys with proven experience. They might battle for a playoff spot but they won’t win big unless they adapt

If he was a new coach I would say it is necessary, their culture is different than Georgia, ohio state etc.. and that culture won them 2 national titles. I have no doubt they will be a top 5 program again with Dabo. He has nothing against getting a couple guys from the portal but he is not gonna get in bidding wars for role players. He has plenty of guys for that.

Well considering the teams with the blue chip ratio (4/5 star players compared to 3 star or below) over 50% are the only ones who have won a title in the playoff era, I would say stars do matter.
