As a grandson of Otmar Macha, this is a real pleasure to hear. Thank you for keeping his musical legacy alive. So well performed.
We were so happy to learn this piece and tried very hard to get our Czech language as authentic as possible. We loved performing it during our tour to the British Isles and especially at the Llangollen Eisteddfod competition.
This piece is absolutely spectacular. I had the privilege of hearing it the first time during the ACDA Chamber Choir Festival back in 2003. Then my high school's women's choir tackled the piece my senior year in 2005.
Congratulations, Miss Fiona and your great singers. I performed this song with our choir in Prague during my childhood. I remember this song was a pretty tough cookie to learn. Thanks to your choir I could now enjoy the song from the outside (as an audience). Suddenly it sounded much better and I appreciate your version very much. If you have a minute to answer, I would like to know if the girls new what the text was about. They seemed to know the context - perhaps the lyrics were translated in the notes? :-)
Hello Leonid, So good to hear from you, and to know that you sang this in Prague when you were a child. Was this when the land was Czechoslovakia? You are correct - we studied a number of great performances of Czech choirs. And we learned the translation almost word for word from the Moravian Czech to English. Our moment to perform in Wales at the wonderful Eisteddfod competition was one of our choir's most memorable highlights.
